Re: Robo3687's IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Hey,

I'm new to this board and this cool hobby :)

So I have a question.
Do you use fiberglas over the foam? or only the foam and paint it?

Thanks :)

No fiberglass whatsoever. Just cut the foam, build the armor, seal it with whichever method you choose (i.e Plasti-dip or PVA glue), then paint. Its very simple.

Fiberglassing, to me, is a nightmare.

I didn't get it all done 100% but good enough to Suit up and kick some halloween ass.

Ok, thank you.
But it's possible, or does the foam melt when it came in contact with the fiberglass and the glue for it?

The foam won't do anything... It's just that the whole purpose of the foam build is to not have to deal with fiberglass, or any strengthening whatsoever.

You can apply fiberglass and fiberglass resin directly to the foam, but that will make it rock hard so why would you want that?

Foam is a million times more comfortable than a rigid suit too.

BTW Stealth, awesome job on the build. Its better than mine and you did it in less than half the time

So are there any differences in the movement?
I know that the foam is more flexible.

you just answered your own question. We use foam because it is more comfortable, takes half the time and looks just as good(when done right).

Thanks Sterling, I'm just glad we are a sharing community. When I first got interested in making my own suit, I came across some p90x using pop rivet loving individual who didn't share any pointers on how to even begin to do this. I think it's safe to say that these suits that us mere novices are churning out are better looking and way more proportionally correct than said individuals.

Me and 8 guys plan to make this suit out metal. We are planning to leave out spacing at the thighs.... Gonna be long to do, it is worth it...

Re: Robo3687's IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Hi guys, I'm starting my foam suit to but I've 2 noob questions.....:behave:
Is the default scale of the helmet suitable for a 24 inch head??
There are valid alternatives to hot glue to glue the foam?

Re: Robo3687's IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

STEALTH, do you mind showing up close pictures of the Plasti Dip along with a final painting on a piece? Do you use that plastic-specific spray paint that has a bend to it? I noticed that Plasti Dip has a mix-your-own-color set. It'd be cool if someone could figure out the right combo for the colors we need so that the whole suit could be done in Plasti Dip.

Re: Robo3687's IRON MAN Mark 4/6 Pepakura FOAM Templates -Easy to Build "Green" Versi

Now I start my own first project :)
Has someone tried to build it with a 2mm foam? Or is it to thin?
