Death Star Torture droid

I'm new here, sort of, has any one made a death star torture droid (Interrogation Droid)? I picked up some medical tools that look pretty close to the ones on the top of it. Kind of freaked my wife out!:lol I have the domes and some other little parts. Having a hard time finding the needle for it.

Howdy...Welcome to the party :)

I've seen a few replicas over the years, but I don't have any current links...

Just remember that the upper hemisphere was a painted R2-D2 dome, and the lower was a 19" acrylic half sphere...Add your greeblies and some pinstriping tape...And you'll have a pretty nice display piece.

Figured this would be a "Has anyone...?" thread. :unsure

Anyway - to answer your question, the only one I know of (for whatever my two cents are worth) is the link above.

I am fairly positive that NO ONE on the RPF has done one in the past 10 years; particularly not a wholly accurate version.

So now that you've whetted our appetite, get on it! I'd suggest sourcing a fiberglass R2 dome, with molded in panel lines. Not sure if anyone is still doing these in 'glass (I have a really old one).

Then get an 18" acrylic dome, and go to town!

Oh and be sure to rig it so it can be suspended. I'd probably start by considering a cable/mono-filament mount inside the lower dome, and run it up through the entire droid, so that it is the lower dome carrying all the weight.

The piece on the droid's right side is a Sluder-Ballenger tonsillectome.

The 'claw' sticking out the top is from what we used to call a 'clamp stand' in physics and chemistry class. You'd have it gripping a test tube or beaker while you heated it up over the bunsen burner.

Oh wow! I need to build one of these after seeing the tutorial!

I have to check the Wild Bird Feed store in town to see if they carry the discontinued 18" squirrel guard domes for bird feeders. Those reference photos are great too.

Yes it's the tonsillectomy tool.

I'm going to use the Ikea lamp for the bottom, and luckily I have a mold for an R2 dome, so I'm just going to pull one of those.

I still don't know what the back clamp looking thing is, although my chemistry teacher at work says its a chem lab clamp

It looks hellish. No wonder they used it...

But congrats on the score! These authentic finds
are always a headrush! :cool:thumbsup

Oh yeah...for the piece I just picked up...the guy had like 25 for sale for the same price.
