i 100% understand your suggestion but here are my arguments against.chris casting the head just like this would make vacuum metalizing a bit easier with the forehead details left separate. What do you think?
i 100% understand your suggestion but here are my arguments against.
the death star droid is black gloss, there will be folk interested in that finish, they have already told me.
the real droid had the star piece in place for the plating process.
how many folk that want to do a chrome (ra-7) version will actually get it vac metalized?
i could count on one hand the number of 3po head customers i know of that have had theirs vac metalized.
vac metalizing is a REAL ball ache, just ask them. vac metalizing would be way down the list for me if i decided to finish one.
the advancement in paint technology these days makes it far less problematic and easier to to get an acceptable chrome look,
spaz stix, molotow, alclad, alumaluster and the plethora of spray chrome systems etc.. to name but a few.
the real droid as we see it on screen aint a perfect finish, not by a long way. most of it has weathering all over it.
and then we get to the casting.
it is a lot easier for me to mold and cast with it in place, the star piece does not have a flat base once installed.
casting something that complex with curved profile is not something i am mentally going to entertain.
it also has a very specific positioning.
if anyone has any more input on this subject then please say.

decided to measure this thing..........Can’t wait for this one... gonna be a big sucker though.
