DEATH STAR DROID - HEAD - FIRST CASTING POST #1

ok i've decided to include the blob and wonky lines on the mouth, the front left edge of the mouth triangle has a slight s shape, i've just started adding that.
i pushed back the temp eye lense so i could get room to work on the upper snout, i'm just about ready now after some fine tuning to start on the eye lense, i think i'm gonna do it in apoxie sculpt, it will give me more time to work than bondo.
the lines on the side of the head i had to redo which took a bit of time. it looks a real mess with different layers of paint etc, but it will be worth the wait. i'm very happy with it so far.
the 5 head disks that are dotted around the head will be done with a cast on cylinder sticking out of the head and the flat disk can be attached to that, i've already cast up a bunch of head disks. i do at least one thing to the head everyday, the way i see it every step is a step closer to finishing it.
i wish i could post up some comparison shots with some of the ref i have but i don't have permission sorry.

Looks perfect.Definetly the way to go adding those little details. One of my favourite droids for sure. ;)

apoxie sculpt used to do the eye lense, this was the part i was not looking forward to out of the entire sculpt. it turned out better than i hoped.

next is the wavy line on the front of the nose, then attach the mouth disc assembly. i added the holes dotted around the head where the disc parts go.

i would say its at least 90% done. the neck is quite long just to aid me in sculpting it, holding it and moving it around. i intend to cut it down later.

What's that in his mouth - the found part I mean? Tupperware?
from ref pictures and video of when brian is sculpting it, the large disc shaped piece looks to be metal, probably aluminium. no idea what it could be.
the piece above it with the knurling i think was a bottle cap in my opinion......i spent ages googling 70s bottles to see if i could find something close.

the sad life of a nerd.

Beautiful sculpt!
The shape of the mouth piece reminds me of an old radio knob, but I can't find one with such a pronounced cone shape

Chris will the disc & piece behind it on the forehead be cast as separate parts? It looks amazing and I’m excited to order one!

The star shaped piece will be attached onto the main head, not separate. The five discs around the head will be seperate like coins. They will get glued onto cylindrical shafts sticking out of the main head casting. If that makes sense.

Woha better late than never, I finally landed in this thread. Welcome back in the old good times.
Great work so far Zorg, congrats, looks spot on as usual, can't wait for it to land in my collection!!!!

Alberto
