Deagostini Falcon. Anyone seen this?

^^How you dare to bring logic into this debate?? LOL! :D

I know right! I mean common... there are always gonna be haters... but I have learned that hating is a product of lack of knowledge so I try to bring that knowledge forward to prove them wrong... There was a bunch of bashing being done on this kit when it first came out awhile back on a totally different forum. I couldn't help myself but step in and put them straight... needless to say... after the debate and match of wills I was a bit triumphant! Take a look here to read the debate for yourself and see just how many people ended up siding with me on the actual facts behind this kit. They had gotten 3 pages in when I couldn't take it anymore and had to join just to set the record straight. Some idiots just like to stir up trouble and like to cause chaos because it's the only way they know to get any kind of attention... anyway, I chimed it at post #71 (James_Davis2)...

For those that have the Solo figure that came with this,

Tony will be doing a 3D printed Shapeways replacement for Harrison Ford's artificial hip that will reflect the more accurate teflon parts actually used. The way the original figure looks like it's a stainless steel hip is laughable, & I refuse to have that inaccurate piece of crap on my model.

Details to come.

That should teach him that maybe its time to use a stuntman from now on! LMAO!

Interesting....good thinking...but most aluminum welders are few and far between here....its a rarity...a lot do other welding for steel ( different types of steel welding ) aluminum welding is definitely an art of its own....in that sense....most experienced aluminum welders work for big businesses and might not , be able to do anything like that for an individual, but I will ask and look around though !!!

I can TIG weld aluminum! It's not a rarity; the process is just a little less forgiving than steel/stainless. I've been welding aluminum R2D2 foot shells for the Astromech site. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think the frame parts are aluminum. When I saw the first frame piece in the package, I immediately thought it was "pot" metal (there's a nice Wikipedia article about pot metal if you want to know more). LOTS of manufacturers cast metal parts from pot metal because it's cheap and gets the job done. If you try to weld pot metal, it will VAPORIZE instantly. It sure would be nice, but I think a true aluminum frame would increase the cost of the model. Just my initial thoughts when I looked at my first set of frame parts.

OK let me say this again, here where I live is a rarity for aluminum welders , we got farms out here , cows , and plants.....up above in other posts it states what I said, I did not say all over the world it was a rare thing for aluminum welders !......however from what I am looking at , these are not ....T6 aluminum or anything , some cheaper version of aluminum , not sure.... pot metal possibly....but either way , with a little application JBweld, these metal brackets will hold tough and strong !!!

My question is... WHY? I can understand wanting to mount it differently but don't you think that once you mount it, that's the way it's gonna stay for a long time? /QUOTE]

I dunno man I was just thinking out loud. I just want flexibility because I may want to mount mine vertically so it fits in a display cabinet. Save space that way.

I can understand if you want to film it... need as many different mounting points as possible...but personally I think having two options now is overkill. However I'm sure as it begins to progress, someone will figure out several different ways to mount it.

I merely would like the MF to be in the center of my hobbyroom in a small round table ,with a base made..... to look like the cloud City landing pad ....having the landing gears is all I will need....but I do understand some would want to move it around a little at different angles of flight....I get that....I just prefer to keep the grounded look merely for my own entertainment , from the films with the bay door open I always love the look of that !!!...I don't want this expensive thing in the air....unless I am holding it, with both hands....LOL

Just a bit of a side track here... Something I always wondered about the Falcon and would have loved to see in the movies is the flaps on the back around the engine moving. I mean, every one of them is attacted to what appears to be a hydrolic piston, so it would hint that they move in some fashion. Perhaps to allow for better manuverability in space, or maybe to concentrate the thrust to produce more speed. I dunno. But I often wondered if they close up over the engine vents at some point to slow the Falcon down and if they move independantly or is unison. I dunno if anyone else had that idea or not, but just look at the engine area. Don't it look like those flaps all along the back on the top and the bottom cover the engine ports below/above them?

At some point I think everyone has looked at the backend of the Millennium falcon and wondered what it actually done , I always thought that maybe the help eject gases , sort of like our rockets do as they release the mixture of gases out...but you have a great point....never quite , thought of maneuverability flaps....Hmmm something to guess on !!!!

Agree.

They can work like on a fighter combat jet engine. On afterburner mode the engine flaps open totally. And on VTOL fighters, they can move the nozzles and flaps to change the direction of the exhaust gases, to generate different trust direction, to change direction very fast.

Makes sense.

And now all the falconers mad to make moveable flaps!!!! :devil :lol :facepalm

I'm sure I'm not the first one to think about this, but I'm probably the first to vocalize it! You hear that Disney!? If you make those flaps moveable I want my royalities! LOL

I am thinking now I may replicate the studio filming model and put in ALL the mounting points that it had.

Go for it bro... personally I'm gonna stick this being in landed mode... might mess around with my Hasbro Falcon and put all the different points of mounting in it, but this one, I'm gonna make it my hero Falcon and be pristene. I'm paying way too much money to experiment with mounting holes all over the place. The Hasbro, $30 bucks, I wouldn't care as much and since I'll probably end up making it in flight mode anyway, no problem there!

I've been looking around for various scale figures. It almost appears as if it would be "O" scale in trains that these figures should be in to match the size of the ship. I might be wrong but does anyone have a way of checking that?

Geesh man , are you sure , that we are not brothers...????......LMAO...... I have been on Ebay looking for over an hour , and did find some old crappy , metal little figures....from Star wars , but they looked rough

I have my current hasbro with multiple points, not only for mounting but also when I get to painting , very handy. There is at least three mounting positions to display my falcon , the more the merrier . The only mounts that I cannot see me using are the mandible mounts

There are new plastic Star Wars figures like the bucket of solders we played with as kids, I checked out my sons stormtrooper and it's close in scale, I might purchase the classic set for ANH crew, I'll post as soon as I get them. I think someone mentioned the scale being 1/48 if someone can confirm

I can understand it for the Hasbro Falcon, but not the DeAgostini one. I want that one to be pristine. The Hasbro Falcon I have no problem cutting up and testing out new stuff with. If I mess it up can always get another one for $30... but when I'm spending $1500 for the DeAgo... I'm gonna be a bit more careful and not as experimental with it.

I've been looking for figures too. I believe that "O" Scale figures would work seeing as O Scale is between 1:43 and 1:48 scale. The closest things I've found are the Wizards of the Coast collection for the gamers. They seem to be about the right size, but modifying will be a pain in the tush seeing as they are all metal. Might have to keep looking. I thought about the Micro Machines figures, but I don't know what the scale of those are and they are getting harder and harder to find anymore.

Just looking forward to my next 4 issues wondering if any of you know if they send them out the same time every month? Does it depend on when you placed your order during the first month?
