Davy Jones on the High seas

So Guys,
Ive already put this in the costume page but as the DJ threads all started here, I thought I'd copy it in here too.

Just got back from Our Bahamas Cruise on the Disney Dream........ Great Cruise.
Also a great reception from the Cast, Crew and Guests for the Davy Jones Costume.

Enjoyed the night and took many many photos with all of the above. - Great , Brilliant fun......... However.

We decided to attend the Mickey's "not so scary" halloween party at the Magic Kingdom, when we sailed back to Florida.

We paid $65 each to attend ( on top of everything else) and went into the park in full costume ( 90 degree heat I hasten to add !!!)
anyway, half an hour into the park, and we were getting stopped by guests wanting to have their picure taken - it was fun for all.

The Disney fun Police then asked us to stop having our picture taken with guests. We could take pictures and guests could take pictures, but guests could not be standing beside us.... Crazy!!!!
The cast member who approached us, commented that our costumes were awesome - best they'de seen etc etc, but that was the rules.

So we spent another few minutes taking some photos of our own, and they cam up again... " are these people disturbing you" I said no, its just disappointing that we need to refuse them.
She sent us to "guest services" to see if they would relax the rules (they didnt).

As it would be poor to keep refusing photos ( people would think we were the A$$holes) we decided to leave.

We asked for a refund , and after a long conversation, they gave us one, but after ithey did so, they would have to "escort us from the Park" - just in case we tried to stay in.

Over 10 years going to Disney, staying in their resorts paying for all the park tickets and food etc etc, Ive never felt so poorly treated by an organisation supposedly overflowing with family values and tradition.

"To all that come to this happy place: welcome. Disneyland is your land. Here
age relives fond memories of the past, and here youth may savor the challenge
and promise of the future. Disneyland is dedicated to the ideals, the dreams,
and the hard facts that have created America... with hope that it will be a
source of joy and inspiration to all the world."

"Disneyland is a work of love. We didn't go into Disneyland just with the
idea of making money."

That is easily one of the coolest costumes I've ever seen....
So sorry about what happened at Disney... they do it to anyone who has an awesome costume and takes attention away from them...

Disney no longer stands for anything Walt meant it to. It's all about the cash and to them you're just another of the masses. Short of folks boycotting disney parks nothing will change. Which is a shame as it's a great looking costume. Disney harasses anyone in costumes and its a shame because at some point costumers will find other places to go.

They do it to anyone who can be mistaken for a disney cast member. Nothing further.

During the process, one of the disney staff told me that an older gentleman attended the MK at Christmas. He had a white beard and a red shirt, and kidswere mistaking him for Santa. They asked him to change his shirt, so the kids wouldnt get confused!!!.
when did Santa become a Disney Character..... and how must the guy have felt? they did provide him with a free Disney shirt however.

Sorry to hear about the bad experience...though I agree with whoever. I believe it is a simple biz decision...they pride themselves on a strict level of customer service and prefer not to have someone mistaken for a cast member who is not following their business model.

But, they have better ways to approach the situation instead of ruining your fun.
Rather or not they think they have a good reason to make you stop, they DONT. They can ask you to stop taking pictures with guests, yes, but they have no right to ask you to change. I could go in a full suit of armor anywhere I wanted to (except the airport) and no one has any right to tell me not to wear it due to the fact that I could use the excuse that "it's my clothing, not a costume" etc. Calling yourself a cast member would be wrong, and should be against Disney's rules, but people have the right to wear whatever they want wherever they want. Disney has costume guidelines, and claymore61 has followed those guidelines.
The official guidelines for Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween party include three or four specific rules for adults: 1.No masks that you can't see your eyes in. 2. No presenting yourself as a cast member. 3. Nothing inappropriate (bloody or sexual).
Disney had no right or excuse to make claymore61 get out of costume.

Thanks for the comments guys, but it's history now. I never did, nor would I present myself as a cast member.

Enjoyed the cruise, enjoyed the creation process, and got my photos I wanted.

We will still go back to Disney, but it was just disappointing for other guests that they couldn't get their photo taken with us.

Just to clarify.... Disney didn't ask us to leave. They advised that we wouldn't be allowed to take photos with guests - even if we told the guests that we were not cast members, so the situation would have become difficult to manage, and the other guests would end up thinking I was an ***** hole for refusing.
We thought the best idea all round old be to leave, and they said it was up to us.
:cry
