Darth Maul Fabric and Patterns??

Yes, I had seen that pic before, and I thought that it was really huge, like ninja pants:

I can do that. I always thought that the pants were huge, but this pic shows that they really were large and baggy. The pants really seem simple enough, really baggy with an elastic waistband.

Can you check if your pants from the statue have a gusset in the crotch (triangle piece of fabric in crotch)? Over on the 501st forum, Ryu said that the original had a gusset crotch.

Yes, it does. I'll take some pictures later today, anyone have specifics, list them here.

Thank you very much Eopie.

When my patterns are done, I will post here a simple tutorial of how to do yours (patterns). I'm not a seamstress, but I have some experience doing some Jango & Boba Fett/Biker Scout patterns and I think I could do one for the pants, also for the other parts.

:thumbsup

The pants look like middle eastern in style. Similar to "Hammer pants" although the ninja pants may be a similar option. The fabric appears to be a lightweight cotton. Perhaps a heavy gauze. I can't see the texture, just going by behavior of the fabric. The way the fabric falls and drapes over his legs.

On page 2 or 3 I think it was Kaane posted pics of the touring costume. You can really see the texture in one of the pictures where the pants are coming out if the boot.

Also Ryu has posted a close-up of the pants texture of his old original on the Sith Lords forums, maybe he can't post it here. :)

Here it is my friend: http://www.501stsithlords.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=478
Ryu's post is at the bottom of page 1. A lot of good info over there!

I don't understand this statement...
"Maul's inner robe is made of linen, medium to lightweight linen, in a plain weave, not cotton like the pants. Also it doesn't split in the front like the pepsi Maul at all. It comes straight down."

The picture underneath it looks exactly like the Pepsi inner robe.

And this statement about the outer robe...
"Also it does NOT have 4 sashes on it. It actually has three, the two near the waist and one that comes from the front all the way around the neck like a scarf and back down the other side. "

Is also exactly like the Pepsi Statue. Can you clarify for me? And was the sash that comes all the way around the neck attached like the Pepsi statue, or was it removable?

And I'll try and get some pictures a little later today.

Wow, it's like I don't even have to answer anymore lol.

Oh and yes, Ray wouldn't let me take the photo due to his legal agreement with LFL to not endorse or be seen endorsing un-licensed goods or something like that. I guess he was afraid I'd use it as something to help sell the suit.

Eopie, the answer I gave there were almost a direct response to the first post. The Pepsi Maul inner robe comment was made by comparing it to Kropserkel's inner robe which I was told was off a Pepsi Maul. I have hi-res pics at home of the Pepsi Maul now so I'll go back and check the validity of that statement as soon as I get home.

The four sashes comment was a response to the first posts comment about having 4 sashes. Macmaul has stated that there were four sashes and if you included the loincloth that would be five. He assumed that the scarf was actually two sashes coming from the shoulders, not one continuous piece. This comment wasn't made towards the Pepsi Maul, just Macmaul's assumption.

I wonder how long that agreement lasts, I remember about five or six years ago, Jeremy Bulloch was at a 501st event and Lucasfilm had agreed to let him be photographed in a Boba Fett costume with the understanding that it was only with one person who had wom a raffle to be able to do so with the proceeds going to charity.

Thanks for clarifying that for me! I can say that the inner robe is not like the one pictured by kropserkel, I just took some pics and will be posting them momentarily.

EDIT: Ok, here are the pics. I can take more, just le me know what part you want to see. Some pictures were edited for brightness and contrast to better see the detail.

Here is the inner tunic...

Perfect, that's is exactly what I was looking for. It helps a lot when doing patterns.

Thank you Eopie. I have a new doubt, people says that the principal belt is closed with velcro. When you take the pics of it, can you take one of how it's closed? Also of the rear part of the 2nd belt.

Thank you very much. :)

Done.

Like Ryu Kumon described of the stunt costume belt's construction, the underpad is soft and all lined, including the loin cloth. It also velcros at the side, not the back.

The belt to me is the worst part of the Pepsi clothing, it is not leather, it is stiff pleather. Again, like Ryu Kumon discribed of the stunt version's belt, it is four belts connected to one larger strip in the back. The four belts are bound by smaller strips behind them with black rivets, 16 in total. The entire large strip is covered in velcro. In addition, and I'm not sure it is supposed to be there is a strip of "leather" wrapped around the large strip that slides over the two closed pieces.
