Darth Maul Fabric and Patterns??

Hey folks, Ive been following this thread very closely. I have a personal friend whos a seamstreass by trade for over 40 years. Simply put, shes the best; hands down. If I can provide her with patterns or any other information, im SURE she can make the best replica ever made. THe best part of this is that her prices are extremely reasonable. (actually unusually low) She really enjoys to make movie replica clothing. If all of you can provide me with the most extensive information possible, Shes willing to make some outfits for us. Again, I cant tell you enough how good her quality of workmanship is......... If youre intersted please place a post and we can work together on this. Ive been working on this project for quite some time but I want this to be as prefectly screen acurate as possible. Please help me on this and the outcome will be mutually pleasant! :thumbsup

If I could see some samples of her work, I might be interested. I would have no problem sewing it myself, but I really have a lot going on this Summer.

Ryu, I think it is really commendable that you shared that information. Your suit was amazing. I was curious if you ever sourced that particular material that had the strange color(s) in it...the one material that had eluded you. Too bad you had to sell it....

A question I had, people here were using what I guess was a hero suit on display for reference. Wasn't your suit a stunt suit as I thought you had mentioned there were slight differences...?

I can't wait to see or hear more about the screen used costume you had :love

Also, thank you for the light about the fabrics Ryu :thumbsup

What is the type of fabric you found for the AOTC cloak. It looks very nice!

The pic he posted looks like Monk's cloth.

Thank you very much Ryu Kumon! So that's what we have:

Inner Coat: Linen (Plain weave)

Sashes and loin cloth: Silk (looks like a crepe to me) - Lined with a satin fabric.

Outter Coat: Heavy Linen (Plain weave) - Lined with a satin fabric except for sleeves.

Pants: Cotton with a specific weave.

Belt: Leather the frontal part. Lined with satin fabric the rear/non-visible part.

That's PERFECT! :love

The Sash fabric may be crepe, but specifically its a crinkle fabric. Don't get the two mixed up. Neither has anything to do with the other, but you can have both on the same piece if that makes any sense. Here's a pic of some crepe just to show the specific texture of it.

So Ryu... Your old suit that you are getting this information off of is a screen-used? Did I garner that correctly?

P.S. I have no current plans of creating a Maul costume, however, I may one day or i may end up doing one for someone else. Regardless, I have been really enjoying contributing to this thread.

Have you seen the pic I posted? :confused Page 7 if I'm not wrong. On it you can see a crinkle crepe, the problem is that it's not made of silk but cotton.

I will look for something like the crepe of my pic but made of silk, I have seen some really close-ups of the original and I see the same texture than a soft crepe like the one I posted.

What do you think?

I have some samples of a crinkle silk, silk crepe, and a silk crepe crinkle coming this week. I'll post them all.

:love I have just received an original Graflex 3-Cell :love

I'm sorry for the off-topic but I needed to say it to all :lol

Can't wait to see your samples, that will be a great reference when searching :thumbsup

10 pages, that's awesome!

No, I never found that specific fabric. I found some that were the right weave but not the right content and vice versa but none that had both qualities. Also I've never seen any fabric that had those weird blue specks within the black.

The suit I had was from the set/studio and that's all I know but from a lot of back and forth between we 'experts', the general consensus was that it was never used and also a stunt costume. The main difference between the two was that the collar around the hero costume was thick like the collar of a martial arts/Tae Kwon Do gi.

It was a very sad day when it was sold. Sometimes, I wish I could buy it back, other days I just wish Ray Park would have let me take that photo when he put part of the costume on.

You didn't take any pictures before you sold it or you just don't have any pictures while Ray was wearing it? I would have a whole album full of pictures if I was going to sell it.

He has them but he can't post all of them for respect to the current owner. :)

I have some photos, the one I'm talking about in general is when Ray Park put part of the costume on at his signing booth at Dragon*con 2004. He wouldn't let anyone take photos of him in it but he remarked on how it felt, talked about being less bulky back then, did a very fast pose and promptly took it off. Showed his wife who was sitting, very pregnant at the time, next to him, it was an interesting moment.

One photo would have been nice.

Hmmm, why wouldn't he let you take a photo?? I've heard he is really good about taking photos and talking to fans. Still cool he tried it on!

Surely something related with the costume and LFL, I say that because he allow to be photographed without the costume, but not with it.

Maybe he signed some kind of contract about be dressed like Maul just for the publicity photos. If someone take a photo of the real Maul and sell it, LFL loose $, so he musn't be allowed.

Do I explain correctly? :lol

Ryu, I too have to commend you on sharing and helping with this! Not many people would have been willing to do so!

I was swamped all day today and was not able to take some pictures. Does everyone still want me to do so since it is said that it is somewhat different than the stunt version?

I would still like to see some pictures. Obviously there is no way to 100% accurately recreate the patterns on the stunt or screen used costumes unless we get one to investigate, or someone that has one tell us...and that will probably never happen. I am fine with using the statue patterns with the correct fabrics we see on film. Were you still thinking about having a seamstress make actual patterns from it?? That would be amazing! Especially for the pants because they are rarely seen in pictures.
