Darkwing Duck Costume Build

Update! So work has pretty much taken over my life, but I found some time this weekend to work on the sculpt. I'm going to add texture to the head during the week today, and I also plan on finishing both hand/forearm sculpts. So I woke up one day last week to find that the weight of the beak must have been too much for the bust, and had completely fallen off. I thought it would be fine without armature support, but apparently I was 100% wrong. I added a piece of wire that runs in the gap between the top and bottom beak and just wraps around the back. It seems to be holding up fine, but the beak is angled down more than I want it to be. I may try and prop it up with a wooden dowel while I'm applying the latex mold. I decided to make it a full helmet instead of the face mask I originally planned.

I'll take some better pictures later on, but here are a few I took last night. I struggled for a while with the feathers. I wasn't sure if I should apply a fabric to cast or sculpt the feather texture. I ended up sculpting it, which took a really long time. I made a mosaic-type pattern by applying quarter inch thick pieces, then carved them back to give it depth.

I'll post a picture of it later, but I'm going to have a big hole for the mouth underneath the beak. I was also thinking about maybe putting some nostrils in the beak for some air flow. It's funny how during the brainstorming process, I was constantly worried about being able to drink, and never once considered being able to breath. Priorities =)
