Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Hi All

I made up some plates in the shape of the ear sections, and sandwiched a couple of layers of fibre glass between these. Once they were set, I clamped the helmet down on a flat surface, glues on some bamboo skewers, and pulled the helmet into the right shape. One I was happy, I did the outer resin coat, and a quick rondo inner slush, and voila;

I've been concerned about this, as my latest helmet build is looking a little misshapen and I've been wondering how to pull it into the right shape. Since it is in three pieces, getting them to fit together as well as getting the overall helmet formed is something I've been sorting through.

Do you have any pics of how you did the "plates" and fiberglass sandwiched, or how you did the skewers? I'm not quite following how you braced it.

Thanks!

Hey everyone, a couple of quick questions.

I've finished making the helmet in card, and I plan on sticking the whole thing together before fiberglassing, then cutting it apart later (much like pRoJectEarth7's build). Sticking the jaw to the back of the helmet is obvious enough, but where have people stuck the faceplate to the jaw? Its clear where it connects to the top of the helmet, but not so much at the bottom. Should I just run some card on the inside to hold them together?

Also, anyone recommend any brands of/places to get resin and fiberglass in the UK? I was just planning on getting it from a car shop like Wilco unless anyone has any better ideas.

Emmolloy93 - I'm in the UK and so far I've bought all of my products from Halfords (resin, fibreglass Matt, body filler and primer). You could get it cheaper if you search online but it's just convenient to pop to Halfords. And for brushes to apply the resin, I found the local pound shop to be the cheapest, £1 for ten brushes. Goodluck!

well i am 173cm tall and my chest is only 88cm. i'm real thin, and tried to build chest and back at scale of 23, it's just over size for me. anyone has suggestion?

Hi to everyone!
Thanks to the Pep files to Darkside501sts and team.

But I have a simple question:
What file I need to download if I want to craft my armor with resin and fiber glass? Foam Templates or Unfolded Pepakura Files (all are Pepakura files)?

Thanks a lot!

The unfolded ones if you're planning on going the paper route. The foam are if you're doing it with, well foam :)

Hey Darkside,

I'm a 3d modeller and I'm interested in where you got the original 3d models from in order to make the .pdo files in the first place. I'm mostly looking because I'm interested in make a short animations with the Ironman MkVII suit and was wondering if you could help me out? Also on this I understand that Pepkura Designer can export the .pdo files to .obj. Are you able to provide me in a pm those .obj files at all.

Thanks for any assistance in this space! :)

Well I finally got my helmet to a point I could cut it apart and see if it fits. And while it fits top and bottom and the face, it is a little tight around the ears. Basically the very top of the inset area for the ear pieces. I'm not sure whether this is fixable. By tight I mean I can't wear my glasses because there's so much pressure. Suggestions on possible fixes? I was thinking I might be able to sand enough from the inside to give me some space. Thoughts? And PLEASE don't tell me "there's no hope and I have to remake it" LMAO

Matthew

Side Note: It FREAKING ROCKS to be able to finally wear it!!! And it even looks like it's supposed!! WOO!!

i am building the bicep on the mk7 and it comes down too far. i am 5' 7" and stocky...if i make the scale any smaller my arm will not fit through the bicep. it is already tight as it is. any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

As with ALL 3D modellers, we make them ourselves.

With ALOT of hours, Hard Work, and Dedication.

Yes, as Syrus54 indicated, I made these files from scratch. The original V1 files were made before the movie came out when there were hardly any reference pictures to go by and they were all low res. The V2 files are more accurate since I have way more references to use.

As I said in the first post I do not approve of anyone taking my 3D models from the pepakura files. That is why I am locking down the V2 files... because I had issues with people doing this on the V1 files. If you want to use my models then send me a PM and we can discuss the details.

Have you cut the hole out where the ear pods are supposed to go? If not then do that. If so and it is still tight then you can heat up your resin coated pep with a heat gun or in the oven to get it warm then you can pull the sides out a little and let it cool down again. This will make it a little wider. Don't go crazy here or it will look like a fat head Iron Man, lol.

Cut out a notch on the inside of the biceps where the armpit is so that the biceps will go up higher on your arm.

Thanks, I'll try that out. Definitely don't want a fat head iron man lol

when will the version 2 release?? $ .$
you are awesome, I want it so bad~~ T ^T

Please don't take this the wrong way, as I see you are new and I don't want you to think that I'm picking on you.

People need to stop asking the man when he'll release the files. He'll be ready when he's ready. Asking doesn't make it go any faster.

So, guys, please be patient. We don't need any more good things getting ruined around here.

Also, JoJo777890, have you done the helmet yet? The version 2 helmet has been shared, so you could get started.....

got it!!
yes, I'm new around here, and I have already started to make the helmet. It's fantastic!
I was hoping someone like you who will answer my nube question.
just making sure whether this project is working in progress or something.
thanks a lot!! :)

Just wanted to say thanks again. Your work with these files is awesome and your tips are essential. I will be posting here as I finish my suit pieces. I plan to build a 6'6" MK 7 for display purposes, starting the back today. Happy Holidays!

Quick question for the pros. If you find a scale that works for you, say 28. Theoretically if you apply the scale of 28 to all pieces, then they should all be proportionally correct, right? I don't care if the pieces fit me, I just want the suit to look anatomically correct when it finished. Thanks all.

I would't consider myself a pro per say but yeah, if the modeler uses the same scale thou out the hole suit then it theoretically should be anatomically/ proportionally correct
cant wait to see some pics

Awesome, thanks sylvester86. Got the back2 file scaled up and cleaned up, printing/cutting now. Going to make the flight stabilizers (flaps) separately so I can display them partially open. Also plan on having some weapon compartments open to show off the suits weaponry (eg. wrist lasers, air 2 air shoulder missiles and air 2 ground thigh missiles). This is going to be sweet.
