Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Thanks Dark! I prefer to post my progress here than to create another IM suit thread. And you can see not everyone stops his suit on the way :D

I looked at the thighs and shins files and it seems to me that the left files aren't inverted. I don't know if this is specific of my computer. Does the Mirror Invertion tool works perfectly for this?

The back is finished so I took some pictures with brace, neck, shoulder, back, chest, and helmet. It begins to look awesome!

The size is good! That's a relief. Next step, the flaps, then the legs.

did you outline the different folds in red and blue marker?

There should be an inverted thigh and shin. The 3D model may not appear to be inverted because it was done before the Mirror Inversion feature. So take a look at the unfolded pieces.

Yes. I use ball-point pens to outline the lines. Blue for mounts and red for valleys. The pressure applied on the lines make them easier to fold.

Yeah, nevermind, I didn't look at the pieces, everything's fine. 3D model was misleading. Dumb question :rolleyes

By the way, do you know if the mirror invertion tool works well? May save me a bunch of time with rearranging the pieces after scaling. That must be created for that purpose but I prefer to have a feedback.

You don't score the fold lines with an X-Acto? You can just use a ballpen to outline the fold lines and it makes it foldable?

Yes but the nib on a pen is quite a bit thicker then the blade. So harder to keep the lines perfect

Ahh...I guess I'll stick to an X-Acto.

I've got a question. Is it alright to build the brace first before I build the actual chest piece or do I need to figure out the right scale for the chest piece before I build a brace of the same scale?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

How tall or you? Ive seen numerous posts saying do the chest and back at default scale and the rest of the suit at your scale. Unless its going to be tiny or huge on you

I'm a pretty small dude: 5' 3". The default scale was designed for someone 5' 5" or 5' 6"...so I'll probably scale it down a bit. Either way whether default or scaled down I won't be sure about the actual size I need for the chest, back, abs and cod unless I actually build it. I'm waiting for the v2 files that's why I was wondering if I could build the brace while waiting. Maybe it would give me an idea of how big my chest/back piece needs to be. But I was also thinking that it could be vice vers wherein I need to know the size of the chest piece before I can build the brace.

I think they both have to be the same. But the files should take that into account so you should be ok

I built the chest and back at my scale and didn't have a single problem. They fit very well.

As long as you use the same scale for brace and chest/back, you can begin with whatever you want.

Jason, you said you're 5'3", have you tried the scale recommended by Dark:

5'3" - 5'4" try in between scale 22 - 23

With the help of the distance measurement tool. I'm 5'10" and used the recommended scale of 24.5 for the back, the chest and the brace. It goes smoothly for most of the part.

For the pen, yes, it's a bit thicker but I prefer this than to cut a flap by mistake (yes, I saw the flapless method :)) or make it a bit too fragile. Personnel choice for this, I guess!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Still a work in progress i resined the outside and then put fiberglass cloth inside and resined it and let it cure before i put wood putting on the inside of the bottoms of the shoes. waiting for the wood putty in the hollows to dry(yea i decided to give it try even though it'll take a bit of time to dry) i cut the top open on the bottom pieces and filled the front piece and part of the back piece with the putty. gonna fill the large hollow in the back of the shoe slowly so itll dry faster. Not the best looking boot but its my first attempt at pepping so im not expecting perfection right away.

@darkside
can you upload the helmet in 1.05 A4 as Pep file? Would be awesome, I just can't get my hands on letter sized paper here in Germany^^
Thank you so much

How are you trying to do it? Are you trying to attatch the picture or are you using an image hosting site?

UNBELIEVABLE work you have done on this. I'm really looking forward to building this

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

I was wondering if the 1 and .095 scales are ok for a 1.85 m tall man ?

And can someone explain how to adjust scale ?

Thanks in advance

you can't scale it yourself with pep viewer... to get a different scale you have to post the requested scale and Darkside will upload it

if you have pep designer you can find the right scale by downloading the tester helmet

Yep I saw the scale guide on the first page. So I guess it's safe to presume that if the brace fits at a certain scale, then if I build the chest/back to that same scale it would fit..?

Oh and a follow up question on your build...how'd the COD piece go? Did you have to scale it differently from the abs, back and chest? And if so, how well do they fit together (being at different scales and all)?
