I'm also interested to hear from people who made fiberglassed boots (with shoes inside and not just covered) how they made the boots strong enough to sustain body weight, walking,...

Inject resin in the soles? Make the sole from plain matter like multiple layers of plastic cards?

I think I will use rigid expanding foam... Smooth On sells different kinds... if you use one that has a large expansion ratio then you will have to be careful not to mix and pour too much foam or it will bust open the boot sole and destroy it as it expands. Best to drill a few holes in the top (insole), coat the inside with resin, then pour water in there to fill it up, then pour the water out and measure how much water was in there, next use the expansion ratio and divide the amount to figure out what volume you need to start with, after that you just mix up the foam, pour it in, and watch it rise.

Another option to prevent the foam from busting open is to not put the top on it... maybe just a bordering edge to help keep the shape... in other words cut a big hole in the top of the sole a little smaller than the shape of the top. The foam will expand out the top and then you can use a copping saw or hand saw to cut off the extra foam and sand it down. At that point you can also shape it to fit a foot... just like the insole of a real shoe.

Hey guys I am new to this hobby and the measurements are throwing me off,. I though I had to download the scale 26.5, but I can't find it. I am going to try and build the helmet first (trying not to overwhelm myself), but can anyone one explain to me how the measurements work, and which of the Version2 Mk VII Files for the helmet I should download. I am 6.2!

Ps. I am looking to build a fiber glass version of it.

Thanks for the help!

The V1 armor is something you scale yourself... there is only one version uploaded. The you open it in Pep Designer and scale it how you want.

The helmet is a V2 file and there are several scales already uploaded that you have to choose from. This file can only be opened in Pep Viewer. As XenoType said, you will use the tester helmet file to find the right size then download that scale from the skydrive.

Bit the bullet with the film coming out soon and decided to build the helmet hopefully in time. Must say bravo on the v2 design. Looks loaddds more simple then most other files iv seen. This will be my 6th helmet attempt but all the others I seem to get too many little imperfections when I join all the fiddly bits. And end up scrapping it for a new attempt. Cant wait to build this.

Sounds like a plan.

Got most of my pepfiles done. I'll post some pics after applying resin.

Hey Darkside is there a collar or a neck piece for the mark VII pep files? paper not foam

there is a neck file that everyone is using unfolded for foam on page 45 by eyeofsauron. there is also a paper version but i haven't seen it unfolded yet. so far from what i have seen he is not making a neck for the V2 files

I believe if you're doing a paper pep you need the brace. If it is foam you don't.

Finally finished the first boot gluing it together wise. Its not perfect but then again its my first time pepping anything so i gave myself a little leeway and i can probably work out any imperfections during the sanding. probably gonna try coating it in resin some time this week. I got spring break from classes so I'm gonna have a bit of time on my hands. i've picked up a few supplies to start to resin the boot i've attached photos of my supplies and my boot below.

don't use those foam brush's!the resin will melt them and you will have bits of foam to sand out of your boot

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Ill look into it. the foam brushes were $.53 each but since they would melt into the resin ill look into something else and see if i can't find some around that price

if your ok with ordering off line you can try here

1" Chip Brush
