Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

my progress on my gauntlets.

i just cut out the hand pieces last night. gotta put it together.

i'm just a little nervous with the fingers, they look like they are going to be a pain in my arse to a. cut b. put together and c. strengthen with fiber glass.

any advice guys?

ps: i feel like the hand plate doesnt match up quite right to the lower forearm piece like so...

Looking good so far. The fingers are pain but it can be done.

I am aware of the short comings of the V1 Mk VII and I am fixing it on the V2 file.

the hand plate looks fine and the small issues that you have there can be fixed in the bondo/resin stage . as for the fingers there should be room in the fingers for the fiber glass you just need a small brush to work with. i would also have a heat gun handy so you can reshape them after your first coat of resin

thanks, good thing im (sort of) rushing this for a nearing comic con for just the gauntlet. I'll have to use your v2 files when i do the entire armor.

thanks, yeah i was sort of assuming on reshaping with the heat gun and while bondo a little so im hoping it won't be as huge of a headache as predicting.

the fingers i saved for last for the assumption they'd be a pain. here's to a successful week and in hopes bondo and fiberglassing this weekend goes smoothly :cheers

i'll post pic of my final gauntlet and Tony Stark outfit when I'm complete for Boston Comic Con.

Hi guys,

I assembled today the helmet tester scaled to 1.0.
My head fit in it but I noticed that I needed hold my ears close to my head to pass through the lower border of the helmet. When my head is inside there, the size is ok.

What do you think? Could be necessary a helmet scaled to perhaps 1,03? What do you think about guys?

Perhaps in the final version using 1.0 scale, I could dress the helmet with the faceplate lifted up and without the mandible, and only after connect the mandible at the end. What do you think? Too complicated?

Complementing the question above, is the helmet test in the same proportion of VII helmet? I wanna mean, the helmet tester scaled in 1.0 has the same size of the VII helmet scaled for 1.0? Mainly for the internal walls close to the ears.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Finally found some cheap brushes at Home Depot near by not as cheap as the foam brushes but still a bit under a $1. Thanks to XenoType for the link to Home Depots website. Gonna try to put on the first layer of resin tomorrow. thinking of cutting a bit of the top of the piece for the treads away so that i can add the fiberglass cloth to the inside to strengthen it and then putting the foam inside after everything has set a bit and stiffened. Will post pictures as i can.

most people do a coat of resin on the out side then let it dry. then use a heat gun/blow dryer to fix any place the paper sags. then they do 1-2 coat of resin and cloth

Your head should not slip into the opening of the helmet... if it does then the helmet is too big. Most people construct the helmet as they did in the movie with the back, lower section of the helmet being removable so that you can fit your head in.

The tester helmet is the same size as the regular helmet but you will have to cut a hole in the regular helmet where the ear pods go. It is a tight fit.

Sooo .. any updates ?:D

I am working on it.

yo does any one have the pass

All you have to do is send me a PM (Private Message) for the password as directed in the first post of this thread.

yea i was gonna put a layer of the resin on the outside and allow it to stiffen but was also gonna cut out 3 sides of a square on the tops of the bottom piece of the tread pieces before i do that so that i can strengthen the inside of the hollow of the boot where it will be filled with the rigid expanding foam.

nice just remeber if your using foam dont over do it and blow the boot up

Yea im probably gonna buy the trial size bottles since i wont need much to fill the boot hollows. As well as the fact that the regular size costs $90. The square im gonna cut out should help with reliving the pressure that would build as well so blowing up of the boots should be minimal. But there has been times when I've thought something would work with minimal difficulty and it turned out just the opposite.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Good evening...

I printed my Chest scaled to 24.5, it seems to be perfect to my size.

I'm using the following picture to have a idea about the proportion of the parts and I noticed the following.

Look to the points marked by the arrows in the picture below.
21528-test-abs.png

Theses marks show a perfect alignment between the chest and the Abs in this points. In the Pepakura Design I checked the distance between this two points and found approximatly 143mm, as I said in Chest ( scaled to 24.5)
21529-test-chest.png

Ok, the next step was open the Abs file scaled to 24.5. I performed the same measurement and the distance between the points, showed in the next picture, and the distance found was 129.3mm. I consider be very smaller than that I found in chest.
21531-test-abs-1.png

Trying other scales for Abs I just found a distance similar when I scaled the file to 27.01, this scale is very different from the used in Chest. See below.
21530-test-abs-2.png

I saw here someone writing something about the scale for the Chest, Abs and Cod should have the same scale. Is this right? Or I am committing a misunderstanding thinking so detailed this way?

Thx...

Seems to make sense to me. Bear in mind that the files you are using are the V1 files and are probably not 100% accurate. I'm sure Dark will be sorting this for the V2 files. But well done for spotting it :thumbsup

Yo Darkside, has Tamasoft said wheather or not they've made an Update to Designer?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

@wragostinho:

Had to do the same upscale. From 24.50 to 27.5 (I probable have larger waist :D)

Had to upscale the cod piece too.

Devil,

After I did that observations I continued checking the dimensions and I found interesting things that I think we need to consider.
As I'm in my job and there is no Pepakura Designer here I will try to explain writing.

Let's think in the Abs file. We can divide the parts listed in it in ribs (involving the circunference of the body) and front (basically the abdoman).

When I apply the in Abs file the same scale of the Chest (as explained before 24.5) the top extremity width of the Ribs fit perfectly with the inferior extremity width of the chest, remembering, considering only the virtual verification, the two parts present a very nice interface .
As the next step, I opened the Cod file and applied the 24.5 scale. In the virtual verification the dimensions shows a very nice interface between the lower extremitiy width of ribs and the top extremity width of cod.
Remembering, both parts scaled to 24.5.

My conclusion was, the Chest, the Ribs (Abs file) and the Cod, virtually show good adjustment between them using the same scale, but the front abdoman needs to be upscaled to, in the case showed here, 27.01.
Only this way the alignment between the Chest and Abs will present a better finish as I commented in the previous post.

Did you understand? If not at tonight I can attach pictures about.
