Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Hey Guys, having a little trouble figuring out how to size the helmet. I downloaded Darkside501st's Helmet Tester ( original SharkMark).. size 1.0 .. and assembled it. Now, I'm trying to figure out how the helmet needs to fit in order to get the correct size for the real deal. I can literally slide my head into the finished tester, and I'm thinking I need to go smaller. Does anyone have any guidelines on how the tester should fit?

look over page 89 we were just talking about this

Trials and errors...mostly. If the tester fits with a slit in the back, you've the good scale. If you can put it easily on your head, it's too big. So the guidelines are: if it's too big, scale down and make a new one :lol

On an other topic, I don't know if I have a butt as large as the SHIELD helicarrier, but I had to upscale the cod piece largely (24.5 -> 27.5 so more than 10%). I'm already scared for the abs section! Did anyone have the same issue?

For me, the best way to determine the scale of the helmet it to measure the width of your own head (from ear to ear, you'll get the highest possible result) and make that the width of your helmet (and when I mean width, I don't mean the width of the opening, I also mean the distance from ear to ear). The rest will follow. You may need to adjust it to be a little bigger or smaller, but head width is the most important measurement.

Funny, it shouldn't be much of an issue since the abs are supposed to fit inside the cod. It should look fine.

I concur.

I still need to check the distance between the chest and the cod to determine the scale of the abs. But I'm afraid the tightest part (the one that goes in the cod piece) will be too tight if the length is good.

Should I use the same scale for the abs than for the cod?

I wouldn't make the abs any bigger than you have to otherwise you would also have to scale up the chest and back.

Thanks Dark! Shin and thigh doesn't seem to deviate from my standard scale so I guess I'm a bit off the scale for cod and abs. Already lost 55 pounds, still 30 to lose, I'll have more place then! :D

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Just saw the latest trailer for the new movie so I'm now more psyched to be building this suit.

I have a question about the boots thought. what kind of reinforcement do you use to keep the boots from cracking under the stress of walking in them? Do you fill them or put something inside the tread part of the boot to absorb some of the impact from walking. I'm just wondering because the fiber glass seems like a sturdy material but also fragile if put under stress causing it to fracture. Thanks in advance for any help.

Btw Darkside I was reading through some earlier posts and noticed you said you were in email contact with the person who made the 3D files for the iron man suit. Why did the suit begin to shut down once it went through the portal? Some kind of EMP field given off by the portal?

Because after going trough the portal he's in outer space, and that suit wasn't made for space travel, in fact tony later builds a deep space suit (which can also be seen in the trailer :popcorn )

Hey Darkside, any more teaser pics of your model?

I know that suit wasn't made for space travel but space shouldn't affect electronics(unless the radiation fried them) figured it would just cause the suit to decompress slowly or behave erratically due to the absence of gravity or an electrical field to orientate the suits compass.

I don't really know but the suit was badly damaged and he used all of the power remaining to pull up the missile, so it might just have run out of power...

Hey Darkside, any more teaser pics of your model?

It would be radiation, integrated circuits wouldn't handle it very well. There is a ton of background radiation in deep space. It was one of the primary concerns for the initial moon program, because the Earth's magnetic field creates a bubble that protects us and stuff in low earth orbit like satellites and the ISS.

Not quite sure if this is a big deal, but the soles of zabana's boots are closed. So how would one cloth and fiberglass the inside? Or is there another way to not have to pray they aren't too brittle?

BTW, anybody not see the new IM3 trailer?

If so it's right here:

How many suit designs can you imagine???

I'm also interested to hear from people who made fiberglassed boots (with shoes inside and not just covered) how they made the boots strong enough to sustain body weight, walking,...

Inject resin in the soles? Make the sole from plain matter like multiple layers of plastic cards?

my guess is make a mold of the boot and cast it out of smooth-cast 300 or epoxamite 101

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Update Jan 3, 2013**

Hey guys I am new to this hobby and the measurements are throwing me off,. I though I had to download the scale 26.5, but I can't find it. I am going to try and build the helmet first (trying not to overwhelm myself), but can anyone one explain to me how the measurements work, and which of the Version2 Mk VII Files for the helmet I should download. I am 6.2!

Ps. I am looking to build a fiber glass version of it.

Thanks for the help!

download and build the test helm found on the first page of this thread to find your scale. i would say start with a .98 but take a paper tape and measure around your head 23" should be around .95. the test helm should not slide over your head. if it dose its to big you need to put a slit up the back like a Halloween mask. the side should lightly touch your ears. read thru this thread it will help
