Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

yes, its supposed to be layered, but it depends on the foam. i used 1 cm foam, and i just cut it so they are not layered but just long enough to attach directly together.
see attachment

alternative, you can take the biggest piece, and then layer the other two layers on with foamies.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

So, I have what may be a stupid question but I'd rather ask a stupid question than make a stupid mistake because I didn't. I'm currently working on the Mk VII chest piece for my stepdaughter and I've hit a bit of a grey area in my knowledge.

Refering to the picture I've attached to this post, the pieces on the right that I've circled are supposed to all join together to make the side part circled on the left, however to do so it will cause the resultant piece to be around 4x thicker than the piece to which it is attaching. How is that supposed to work? Am I correct in assuming that rather than layering each of the 4 pieces on top of each other they are supposed to be adapted into one piece? Or are they all supposed to be layered and then attached Or is there something I'm missing here...

I have limited internet access at the moment otherwise I'd check out all of the Hero Tutorials etc on Youtube, but seeing as I can't right now I thought I'd try my luck here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Each of those parts does fit over the one below it... I made it into separate parts cause in the movie there is some sort of booster in there and the flaps open outward. Some people may want to make it so that those parts move. If you don't want them to move then you can make it one piece.

It may require some tweaking and/or some trimming to get these parts to fit in their spot just right. They should not stick out past the chest part.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

Thanks for the replies guys! Much appreciated.

@Darkside: That makes sense now as to why it LOOKS like one piece with a slightly layered effect, but it made into serperate pieces. Good thinking on your part for if people wanted to have them open/close etc.

@EoS: That was actually the way I was thinking of doing it as well mate. Cutting the parts that don't overlay and attaching them all as one piece. I'll think more on it tonight after work.

Thanks Hermes, That is quite a compliment coming from someone who makes as many good looking costumes as you do. I really liked the first Mk VII you built so I can't wait to see how this one comes out.

Just so everyone knows I try to help people out but I don't have the time to email the files to everyone so please hold off on contacting me with that request. I should have the links back up soon.

I understand its had to be done darkside cos lots of ppl abuse ur work.... Many ppl will hate it but u still have my supporr..Any way heres my progress of me suit up.. Im thinking of doing battle damage on the foam.. Will post up soon if ive done it. Cheers chief

Ps. Its hard to suit up myself .. Guess I neef jarvis :p

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **New Request on Opening Post**

@z3ro44:

Pep Designer will allow you to save the files you edit so you don't have to change the scale and move everything around again. Pep Viewer for Cameo is what you need to connect to the Cameo and cut your parts out.

On a side note, the version 1 pep files and foam templates are back up and I have set all parts to a scale of 23. I have added a password to the files in order to view them with pep designer. PM me for password. All files are still free.

I think everyone here who's used his files should try to kick a few dollars to darkside. :thumbsup

(y)thumbsup :cheers (y)thumbsup

Thanks guys and also softblubber. Your names have been added to the VIP section. My wife is happy so I can spend a little more time working on these files again, lol.

I would really like to do the Mk VIII too but it takes so much time from my family it is hard to justify.

Thanks

Just an idea. What if you take the foam Pepakura files and use illustration board instead of foam? And for the finer details that are hard to build using foam, you could use the regular pep files with cardstock and hybridize it with the parts made out of illustration board. After which you could coat it with a little resin and bondo some parts as well. By doing this, you could cut down on a lot of time pepping by using mostly the foam templates, while at the same time you can get the accurate details of the classic pep build, overall have the rigid and durable qualities of a resin or fiberglass suit. I know it sounds a bit crazy, but it might work :D Any thoughts?

Some people have done something similar using Sintra or equivalent. It is a much better product to use in this approach vs illustration board. You can heat it up and bend it to form a shape then let it cool and it retains that shape. The surface is a smooth plastic so finishing it is real easy. Look into it some more and good luck with your build.

Alright! BTW, I never got to thank you myself for all the dedication you put into these files, so thanks for making them for us ;) Can't wait for your V2 files, but no pressure, you can take as long as you want, I don't mind. :D

Long time lurker on here but first time posting! I saw these files that you were working on and would ditch my mark VI to do this one but am just too far along. I just wanted to say thanks for the hard work you and everyone else has put into these. Once I finish up my Mark VI I will be jumping on this build as well. Really looking forward to seeing what V2 looks like.

At some point I will start a build thread, but with all the iron man builds going on, I will wait until I have more work done to do so. I have a ton planned for my build that I haven't seen out there yet. We will see how much of it comes to fruition.

This forum really is a great place and there are so many contributors to this hobby. Do not want anyone to feel like they are taken for granted, or a putting a lot of time in and going unappreciated. If it werent for you all sharing your files with us, my pep backlog would be so much smaller. :p So /cheers man just wanted to say thanks for the hard work you and others have put in on these!

Thank you so much, I can't wait to see what you have planned for the suit. Post a link to your build thread when you get it going.

What is the differance between the Mk 7 and the others? From what I've read the only differences between the Mk 3, 4 and 6 is the chest piece. Is this the same with the Mk 7?

In my opinion the mk7 is an all new model... I don't see a lot of similarities except for the Arc Reactor :)
Even the Helmet is slightly different from the mk6.
Mk7 is also my favorite one :)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **Links Fixed and New Update**

Seriously? You guys dont see all the differences?

There's ALOT.

Speaking Personally, I've Forensicly Examined All the suits... of course, I'm a designer, that's what we do. I love the differences of all the suits, how nothing is the same from 1 to the next. (Glove, Helmet, and Boot excluded... lol)

Try some Google Searches for the suits and their photos. Study the movies.

You Should be able to notice all the Extreme and Subtle Differences.

I don't seem to notice the difference much between the Mark VI and VII's helmet (aside from the way it assembles of course), only thing I see are the two screw marks on the faceplate of the Mark VII which aren't present in the VI. Anything else?
