Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Just wanted to say thanks for the files. I used some as templates for a Makerbot print, and I don't think I could have modeled it without them.

TheAdama, this is awesome! I was considering doing something like this as well, converting the PDOs to OBJs and then turning those into STLs for 3D printing. How did you manage to give the file the appropriate "thickness" for the 3D print?

at a local convention last saturday. . .i was a guest judge for the said event. . .

Actually, it seems this may violate Fair Use, so I'll won't be discussing any further.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

hey guys, I was wondering if you could help me out

so far I've built the bottom half of this armor, but when I start working on the forearm and entering my scale -the model seems to be off scale - I'm 5'5 so I'm entering 280 mm in height for the lower forearm but for some reason the width of the armor ends being 272 mm (10 inch) - I dont think the lower forearm is that wide. Am I not measuring correctly or is it something else?

Thank You

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I don't have a thread because I don't think I have anything special to offer and I'm real slow. But I would just like to thank Darkside501st, ironmaided, jackieisrockin, EyeofSauron, Stealth, Zabana and JFcustomized for all your hard work and allowing me to get working on my dream Iron Man Mark VII suit. Here's my progress so far. I'll eventually post the final version (sometime around Halloween).

Thanks guys!!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Welcome. Immediately say that I'm Polish and I can write a little weird. I have a few questions. It will be a few pictures in all ask you something.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Anyone knows how to cover such items between each moving part of the armor, such as an image, and in other places??

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Can anyone give me a link to download the left and right hand parts? Because I'm just right.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

The next question is, how do you use foam lining each item. I saw some people had with the foam of many tongues, as it sticks and where to buy?

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Where can I buy this type of clips? They are usually in their backpacks.

And the last question, the most I've seen all laid the fiber into the elements. You can also do it outside? Paper elements are painted on the outside to make them stronger.

1) you can find a pep file on syrus54's pep page http://www.therpf.com/f11/syrus54-misc-pdos-141151/

2)to get the left side of the hand you can flip the 2-d page How to flip Pepakura files?

3)the lining isn't actually lining its just the backside of the foam piece

4)you can buy those clips on ebay Backpack Repair Kit - Buckle Replacements - Side Squeeze Buckles - accessories | eBay

5)you can watch a tutorial for hardening herehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7T8rypEqs8

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I don't want to thread hijack, so if you want a lot more detail, check out my thread here: http://www.therpf.com/f24/makerbot-iron-man-pic-heavy-actual-printed-158983/

Anyway, I just really wanted to make sure that I gave fair credit to Darkside. Models like this in are a nightmare to try and model in SW, at least for me, and I would have been out of luck without his models.

I appreciate the credit but I have to say that I am not cool with you using the files like this. Also, you shouldn't be showing people how to take advantage of other people's work. I don't know if you got permission from Robo3687 or Zabana but I know you didn't ask me. You basically took my 3D models without asking for them.

I am sharing the pepakura files for personal use using the pepakura method or using the foam templates. Other members have offered trades or similar compensation for permission to use my models for 3D prints.

In my opinion, you have violated the Fair Use laws. I would appreciate it if you edit your post to remove information regarding how to take the models and also I think you should cease posting on this topic until we have had a chance to talk more about it.

Please PM me when you get a chance.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

For the buckles, i went to ebay and searched for " plastic buckles" i found from 3/8" to 2", but i ordered 3/4", and the straps to use with the buckles is "webbing straps" i found 5 yards of green military grade for 5$ shipped, pretty good , for flipping the parts go to 2d menu - invert pattern, hope that helps, i recomend that you watch the hero tutorials channel and xrobots for more cool tutorials, hope that helps you :)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

A couple members made some posts about my previous post being too harsh so I just wanted to address that here as well.

I don't have any intentions of blocking TheAdama from showing his work. However, when I posted my pepakura files it was for that intended use. Someone that is extracting my model from the pepakura files is not using the pepakura file for it's intended purpose. Every artist has certain rights for his work and I am sharing my pepakura files with everyone free of charge but that doesn't mean that I am just going to give away 'all' my hard work.

If you are going to go and burn a bunch of movies then you don't want to go posting to everyone what you are doing and you certainly don't want to go selling them. Anyways, not everyone values their work the same but that doesn't mean that everyone should be expected to give everything they have been working on away.

There was just a similar discussion on this in this thread involving the hinge mechanism on the IM helmets. Don't you think that the guys that have worked long and hard perfecting that hinge would be a little concerned if someone else posted information on how they did it?

In any case, I am PMing with TheAdama now and we are discussing permissions for the model. I hope that you guys and everyone else on here can understand where I am coming from.

Also, let me apologize if I came off as sounding too harsh. I know that things don't always translate that well through text. I am not mad about it nor do I have any ill feelings toward TheAdama. I think he understands where I am coming from.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I don't think it was too harsh.

Files/models can't enter that grey area.
At least they could have asked permission for the model to use in the 3d print.

You HAVE to Respect the modellers wishes.

A lot of people wouldn't even have an iron man suit
if it wasn't for them.

People need to have more common sense. and ask permission, especially if you just take the models like that.

I don't think it was too harsh. You offered Pepakura files for us to build.
Not the 3D models to do what we pleased with. The models are the real work.

I'm telling you, modellers are all going charge for their files one day and people shouldn't have to ask why.

Many modelers do charge for everything they do... that is how they make a living. I am sure they hate guys like me that make these pepakura files too but as long as I am making it myself and not taking their model to make the files then I am ok. Unless, Marvel tells me to stop, lol. I think they understand the costumers passion for this stuff though.

The guy that made the real MK VII model wouldn't share his model with us... I am not faulting him for it though cause he was the one that did the hard work so it is up to him (well maybe Marvel had a little to do with it too).

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Since I started this, I hope I can help resolve it. I really should have talked to the people creating these models before moving forward. This is a very responsive community, and it would not have been a burden to send a few PMs before moving forward. Hindsight is 20/20, and I see now that I made a poor decision. I made some assumptions, and I was fairly called out for my mistake. The work of the modelers like Darkside obviously has incredible value to this community, and I do not want to do anything to discourage that. I only want to encourage it.

In Pep Designer - go to the 2D menu and select invert pattern then you might have to move the pieces around to fit them back on the page.

Question: could it be that the Pepakura Files link for the Iron Man Mark VII is down (in the first post here)

It might be back up today. I will be looking into it.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **New Request on Opening Post**

To address the Model Using Issue; Personally, anything 'I' release, that isnt password protected, people can do whatever the hell they want with it.

That's just me. I love modelling.

I can definately understand where you're coming from DS, it's borderline being able to take your models, in order to Profit off of them.

THAT's the reason I Protect some of my files.

At the same time, i thought it was an interesting idea to make the parts using Rapid Prototyping, just as long as he doesnt sell the suit/parts at the end of it all.

Unfortunately, if I password protect the files to keep people from changing them or extracting the 3D model then it will also prevent everyone from being able to scale them, etc. You would only be able to open the file in Pep Viewer unless you had the password. So there is a deficiency with the program that is causing this confusion.

I know one of the programers at Tamasoft and he has taken some of my suggestions and implemented them before. I was also working with him to do some testing for their Pep Viewer for Cameo program. Anyways, I have suggested some improvements to the program that would take care of this issue and I am awaiting his reply.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files **New Request on Opening Post**

Yeah... what I do is let people request certain sizes (since i have the time to do it), i just resize the files, and post a download for it as well.

But like you said, you're very busy, and cant do that.

I understand.
