Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Thanks guys for your response on the Zabana boot. Now is it easier to make Zabana's boot or the Zabana boot modified by Darkside?

I need just a basic servo/hinge set up for my faceplate. I just want to set up the servo to move the faceplate up and the chin to go down.

The people who have made working faceplate hinges are not specific in how they made it. A hinge design is easy to find on youtube, but the servo programming code is not, a guy called 'xrobotics' explains everything you would need (pcb boards etc) and how to align it, but he has years of programming experience.
I think Stealth might be doing a video on it soon on his youtube channel 'theherotutorials' though... Fingers crossed!
I think the reason for the secrecy is 1: the people who manage it are quite talented and want the exclusivity of a working iron man mask for themselves rather than giving it away for free and 2: some sell these masks for hundreds of dollars :p

All of this might not be correct, I've been around iron man suit making for about 3 months now, forums tutorials etc.
Hope this helped :)

Everything people need to do an automated faceplate is already on these forums.

I see you have built one already, amazing suit by the way, you've pulled off the blue comic-book look very well into the mk6. Would you be so kind as to maybe throw a few links up to these threads you used in making the faceplate? I've looked around myself but I couldn't find every piece necessary to complete the build.

Thanks man. I checked out MightyJohn's approach and I just might do that. Gotta get this done by Halloween. If not by then, I've got plenty of time before the IM3 Release next year. By then I'm gonna wanna make Iron Patriot or the Mk VIII. Catch 22 I guess :facepalm

Hey Darkside, just wondering how the v2 files are coming along?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

if anyone cares, i finished my arc reactor :D

it can be worn in the suit and as a seperate piece, and it cost me less than 5 bucks

also it has 3 settings:

Well said. I've noticed that about those who make the helmets with faceplate hinges and more so if it's mechanized. You guys can check this helmet build out (hands down the best I've ever seen)

http://www.therpf.com/f24/ironman-mkvi-pep-helm-aiming-99-movie-124100/

He's very helpful in the overall making process but he doesn't give too much info on the faceplate mechanism.

I've worked out a faceplate hinge setup that allows the faceplate to move up into a movie-accurate position, and at the same time allows the jaw to move down in one motion. Still trying to figure out how to mechanize it WITHOUT servos, but it might take a while. But I'd be happy to share it IF I I'm able to do it :D

That Sounds Great! Although I think ProjectEarth is going to show everyone how he did it when it's perfect and finished. He's still in progress with it and I'm sure - I wouldn't act differently - he want to take his time to deliver the greatest work what's possible! When it's ready for sale, it's ready for public.
But I'm very interested in your version too!! So that you didn't know ProjectEarth method exactly, you took your time and find another way to do it!! That's a good thing...a driving force... All of you guys here in this great Forum: keep up your amazing work!
All of us can learn a lot from each other! :)

After discussing with Darkside, we came to an agreement, and I have special permission from him to use his files for my personal printing. It still takes a lot of work to go from a 3D shell to printable parts, but it would have been awful to try and model it from scratch in a CAD program, if not impossible. This is probably my favorite piece so far.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

well i had a happy "accident" today

did my foam helmet, and all i had were 2 mm foamies. which is good and bad. basicly you work it like pepakura.
the one thing that annoyed me was that i had to double it up in some parts to get the separation for detailing. but it came out great.

the "accident" was that i used black and red foamies. and now i have deadpool iron man. now i dont want to paint it because it looks so cool with that color scheme and thinking about doing the whole suit deadpool style xD

red seems a little washed out in the pics, but its a bright red :D

I would be very interested as I am sure would many others - busy finishing my helmet and looking at numerous options for the faceplate from magnets to hinges to spring and elastic loaded ideas - even just a picture of your hinges would be great and maybe the talent on theRPF could aid in the mechanisation process. Thanks

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I care! It looks great and I'm so impressed on the modes and most of all... Under $5!

Will you post a tutorial of any kind?
its not really as complicated as it looks xD

you know those 3 dollar bike lights that you put on your head? they have 7 white leds, and 2 red ones. the problem is they are soldered to a small board, so they fit inside the tiny lamp.
all i did was take out the white leds, solder wires to the spots were the leds were, and the leds to the other end of the wires, so that the leds were moveable, glued the leds in a back plate for reactor that was covered in aluminum foil, and done.

for the arc reactor i used a plastic cup from easter that used to have chocolates in it, i cut out 2 circles, sanded it to have it milky, and done. and a cup for the housing.

i had everything except for the light at home, what i also did was fry the circuit with the 2 red leds, as that wouldve been the 4th function, but as it did not turn off in off position (the leds went to a really low light setting) i needed something for off, so i fried the extra circuit with the red ones (ive couldve taken those out too, but too much work), and thereby had an off function because of incomplete circuit :D
i also soldered in wires from the board to the battery pack as it was built to just have connection via metal thingies :)

Thanks for the support! Now I have more reason to try and make this hinge..haha. All the stuff I've discovered is theoretical and it only looks good on paper so far, so I'm not sure how clean the mechanisms would work in real life. But either way I'll post some pics of the blueprints I've made once I re-draw and adjust them. (There's no mechanism yet, it's just the hinge system) I wish I could post them already but I'm a bit busy :( Nevertheless, I will share it! ;)

- Supports for the Shoulders are on a separate pepakura file. Be sure to get that too.

Okay...this may be a stupid question but I can't figure out where these shoulder supports are from the note on page 1. Am I missing something here?

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I finished my HD Arc Reactor... would be hard as hell to pep... definately high detail.

3" Height, Download on my Misc 3D Page if any one's interested.
