Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

hey darkside, ive been watching this for a while now and i was wondering if you would get someone to make foam versions of the more dramatically changed armor pieces of version 2 if any :) btw great work lol

Hey, i've been following this thread for a while but i just now made an account here. but i was wondering, how much different are the version 2 files gonna be as compared to the version 1, specifically the back

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I wish you made a neck file

Yeah...because you know what's terrible? Getting a bunch of FREE files to make an awesome Iron Man suit but one of the easiest pieces to make freehand isn't included. :rolleyes

Let's all step back and appreciate how much time and effort Darkside has put into this...and continues to put into this.

It's important to remember that he is freely giving aways his hard work so we can all have something cool. Let's try to focus on that instead of the ONE piece he didn't make.

Keep up the awesome work, Darkside!

I haven't released any version 2 files yet... I want to make sure it is as accurate as can be before I release the version 2 files cause I probably wont go back and revise them again. Glad you like what I have so far.

Well the version 2 files are going to be different... not so much of a dramatic change on them... but all the details will be improved. Just take a look at the pictures I uploaded of Josh's model and compare them to my version 1 peps... anything you see that is different is what will change. My version 2 files will look like Josh's model as much as possible while still being able to wear it as a costume.

Nick, you have stood up for me a couple of times so thanks and thanks for also helping out answering some questions that have been posted.

I don't think anyone means any harm by their comments. But sometimes people just post things without thinking about it or looking for the answers first. Some of these guys don't know how much work it is to create these files. Unless you have tried to do it yourself you really won't know. I have been delayed on starting my suit because of this project. I am looking forward to finishing this pep so that I can start building my own suit. ;)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Oof... been a bit since I checked in and posted, lovin all the progress pics!

Mine is coming along... again, two jobs (one with OT) and trying to avoid distractions makes it rough... so far I have only managed to assemble the cod, abs (almost done), and am starting the chest. Syrus54- nice back man. Just as a comparison, how tall are you and what scale did you ultimately use for the back piece? Trying to gauge my scale (26) vs my height (6'1"). The cod fits alright on my 6' mannequin so far. By the look of it I am guessing you opted to go with the model that doesn't have mobile flaps, correct? (I seem to recall there being a couple different versions for the back piece, need to dl and start that next.)

And Darkside- you really think a full pep suit is closer to wishful thinking by Halloween? I might have to start incorporating foam, or even starting from scratch if you think it'll be a time crunch.:facepalm

Has anyone noticed that the part where the gold and red meet at the chin is the different to the mark vii even though it is from when he is falling and the suit goes around him.

The chin indent and how the sides of the mask meet the back edge of the gold "bottom lip" have been changed.

They were originally planning a slightly more extensive set of modifications, but those are the only two I've spotted thus far.

I think that GIF is from the trailer though, using non-final renders of the suit. I could be wrong on this, but I swear the chin in that shot in theaters is the proper Mark VII version.

hey i wanted to know how different the helmet in your V2 will be i know its not finished but you may have an idea of some changes you might make.

And awesome work btw it really is hard for someone that dosnt do it to really appreciate and understand the amount of work its probably taken you but i can try and imagine

The biggest difference is on the chin... I will modify it... just check the pictures of the Mark VII vs the Mark VI... look at the chin. The difference is not much and could be fixed/modified in the finishing stages if you didn't want to wait for the version 2 file.

Thanks for the appreciation. ;)

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

all of the work you did is outstanding..... i was just wondering what scale you would suggest for someone that is 6'2"-6'3"

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I just finished reading this topic.

Very nice! It is realy impressive.

At the moment I do my internship in China. But I decided, when I am back in Germany i will directly start to build my own MK7.

Just I am a little bit scared about, that the proportions will not fit after I finished.
The best way would be, that it will fit "like a second skin". :D
So do I have to scale every pep-file in a different way to reach the best fit? Or is it enough to establish the value with one file and then transfer it to the other files?

I know. Beginner questions. The problem is, I want to arrange everything now.
But there is no YouTube avilable in China. So .. no tutorials.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

This is a very specific question so please do not flame me for asking it, Im not a noob!. Ive been through the thread, and many others and this particular question has not been asked:....
Its about scaling XD (troll on)...

I noticed about 5 million pages back that Darkside said: "because robos files are aimed at a person 6 foot tall and are scaled to 25.... that these mk VII files should be the same, and 25 should also fit"

So as a 6 foot tall average build person (robos files fit me perfectly in default), does that mean, if i scale this file (and every other file created from now until the end of time) to 25, they will fit me? How do all modellers know the exact same scales to build their designs to? Am I just the default size human? Please explain because measuring is diffficult, I cant find from referencing pictures where I should be measuring from and to. The phrase "measure from ABOUT... to ABOUT..." is no good for me.

(For the record, Robos files, in foam, actually default at a scale of 25.4, but for explanational purposes I've written as above).

Hope someone can answer my question. And if any of you dudes flame me for asking a question about scaling, be warned my repulsors are on standby and I will fry you before you even take the breath :-O

Is 25 my magic number?

Is 25 my magic number?

No, scale changes from file to file. It 100% depends on the units set up by the creator in the modelling package they were using. However every file Robo makes if it's modelled in the same space as the mark 4/6 then yes 25.4 will work. In the same way every file that darkside501 makes, if it's in reference to his Mk7 then yes it will fit.

To get my default scale I exported the dummy human that I model all my parts on and scaled that to 6 feet. I imagine some of the other modellers used a similar method to come to their default scales.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Dancin fool, thank you for taking the time to reply to my message lol. I was fully expecting to be shot down in my tracks lol.

Darkside's file defaults are all over the place, I've just gone through them:
19... 21... 23... 22.5...
1.67???? (very surprised at this scale... its the upper forearm modified by ironmaided).

The fluctuation between scales has confused the pants off me.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Well that is confusing, probably have to wait and see what he says. Hopefully all his model's exist in a single file so all the scales will relate to one another. Otherwise scaling will be quite difficult.

I've never had any luck in figuring out a good scale for other pep files. I usually just read through threads until I find someone the same height as me that's posted their scale values. Doing Master Chief was a nightmare since all the parts are modelled by different people but I managed to find a good thread with scale values and just used those for my build.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

All of those were taken from his links on page one of this thread just last week.
