Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files - Password in First Post

Search for jowe hand files!!! They're perfect and simple. The dude is a bloody genius. You could have both hands completely finished in less than half hour. Then do the fingers from the file. As for helmet, the majority of people prefer to do a pepped helmet if they choose foam iron man and it always looks fine.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Thank you guys...i figured the helmet would be better done with card paper...just needed opinions...ok well I got all my files...i guess the only thing left to do now is buy the materials and get started...im ill have 1000 more questions throughout the process...lol

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

So i've been lurking around these forums for a couple years now watching the various Iron man suits pep files come together and i want to take a moment and thank everybody for their amazing effort and dedication to the art form present here.

Due to budget issues i've not been able to actually make my own suit, but i was able to put this together about 2 years ago. (Mk II arc reactor)

(i have more production images available if anybody wants to see them let me know)

This year i've finally decided to get my hands dirty again and have started pepping the Left arm from the Mk VII suit, and have begun the fabrication of pieces for the Mark IV Arc reactor. ( not covering it with a shirt when its in use so i want as close to movie accurate as possible, piece by piece build from scratch using the Art of Iron man II book as a guide)

So far i have a good grasp of how to handle the task at hand with the exception of one thing, I've noticed on alot of you guys completed arms and legs the actual hinge has some sort of plastic plug in it that holds the peices together while you bend your arm or leg, where are you guys finding this plug? My searches over the last few days have resulted in Natta so I figured i'd finally break out of lurker mode and just ask lol.

If you are building with cardstock then you want to look for 'Chicago Screws' or screw posts. There are other options out there but this is the easiest to come by and the most popular.

Here are a few ideas if you are building with foam:

Yeah im building with 110lb stock. and THANKYOU the Chicago is exactly what i was looking for!

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Thanks darkside501 for making these files.

I am thinking about making the foam version and I downloaded the files from that from https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=21209ebd4d8a434f&resid=21209EBD4D8A434F!269&id=21209EBD4D8A434F%21269

However, there doesn't seem to be a file for the boots. I read through the 30+ pages in this thread and didn't find anything. Is there a foam boots file I can use?

You are welcome... yeah I guess nobody converted the boot to foam. You can find the regular version 1 boot here:

Just follow Stealth's tutorial on converting pepakura files to foam templates.

You might try and look here for the foam templates edited by JFcustom:

There is also a foam boots file in stealths conversion of robo's files.

It's one of the last files on the list located here:

cyanoacrylate adhesive

way better than hot glue :D

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Isn't that the same as super glue?
Thought that was a no no with foam builds.

yes it is. . .here it's being used for shoe repairs. . .

that's what i use even for my other props. . .even don robert use this :)

that's why my foam builds are clean

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Ive been resisting the foam build, because for some reason i have it in my mind that the end result is inferior quality... but I keep seeing all these amazingly detailed suits all done in foam. It also seems the effort (and time) put into making them is far less than half of a pepakura build.. you guys may win me over yet ;)

I use it all the time for small bits of EVA, and it makes the seam the strongest part of the entire assembly. It takes a little more patience, as you hold the pieces together, but totally worth it for the level of control you can get out of it.

Hot glue on the other hand runs the risk or melting or warping foam or leaving more obvious beading.

In the end, like everything else, gotta use what you're most comfortable with.

PS: Fin, you'll be getting a email from me when I'm back from vacation. ;)

@ ironmaided:

In darker scenes, your camera needs you to stand still just a bit longer, so it can let more light in.

Hold your breath, or use a tripod/tabletop to stabilize your hands until the shutter is done taking the pic.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

Hey, I am completely new to this. I wish to have the V2 version of the suit done by February or so, meaning I'm going to patiently wait for Darkside's amazing work to be finished as long as it takes. And I'm sorry and this will be the most noobish question ever. x.x

What kind of foam would be recommended for the making of this suit? I'd like to start gathering materials early.. Sorry if the question bothers, this is literally my first day. x.x

P.S. I've downloaded all of the V1 files and Pepakura viewer, I might give the V1 a shot as a practice run.

Re: Darkside501st's Iron Man Mk VII pepakura files

I'm with IronMaided with this one. These kinds of adhesives stick well with rubber. And the good part is you can sand off the excess once dry.

Great looking suit btw :thumbsup
