Dann's All-Encompassing Lightsaber Thread!! - (Latest) Rylo Reveal Cave Scene Electronics Mods

Uh, yeah. Ain't no easy task!!! I'll be happy if someone finds the real donor board for the guts, but I'm not holding my breath, and I'm sick and tired of looking, myself!!

Made a few more minor updates to my Barbican and Kurtz Vader hilts!

Added a short "blade collar core" to the inside of the Barbican, replaced the D-ring holder with a slightly nicer one, and a couple months back, custom made a new sheet metal bit with hole (hole is a little too big, was going from memory) that sits inside the top rectangular greeblie.

I still need to drill the holes in the tube, the two under the black caps, and the two that are on opposing sides just below the emitter shroud, that the short "core" peeks through.

Also need to finish the aluminum pommel end cap.

The Kurtz has a new tweaked resin printed "wiper blade" greeblie, and a "revised for the umpteenth time" control box with slightly straighter sides all around. It needs a little sanding on the sides to hide those print lines. They're not deep, thankfully, since it's a resin print, but the angle at which it was printed made them show up.

Oh, and eventually I'll make some slanted side plates for the Barbican's MPP clamp!

Second update today, I also machined yet ANOTHER new emitter and neck/windvane for my Luke Hero, this time the PROPER size!

I'm gonna have to do a new pommel, too, because this one looks too small now, with the larger emitter at the other end. And a new box, and grenade section, and... maybe I'll just wait for the MoM Hero run! Still, it's always satisfying to machine your own parts!

Shown next to the PLA MoM Prototype...

(y)

I was going to say too - you really have a knack for this. Your replacement parts look like things that come from runs on here

Barbican mystery box is almost a dead ringer for the real thing too.

Thanks guys!

That's a heck of a compliment, Tom, thank you!

I'm happy to make parts for folks, if there's enough interest!

Whew, I'm beat!!

I've been working on a fellow member's Rylo Reveal Hero for months and months, now, and I'm finally in the home stretch.

Tonight I got the control box electronics working, just like the real Hero hilt, from the deleted cave scene!

Thought I'd share the video with y'all, along with a few pics. I'll share all the other modifications soon, as well, if the member will allow it!

I made a new detail board tonight, and took some pics, and later decided to add some brass photo etched bits, so the first couple pics don't show that.

You may also notice that the buttons and arrows/arrow plate/screws have been changed from what was originally included in the kit, as well as the ABS and brass rails.

Here's the video!

That's incredible! When I finally get round to doing my reveal board, I'll be happy if it turns out half this good. Awesome work!

Thanks, guys!

It was DEFINITELY a challenge, lots of cursing and sweating during the wiring/soldering process!

I ordered some more of the TINY snap action switches yesterday, too (it's the smallest SPDT switch that I know of, but that doesn't say much), for my own modified static Rylo Hero, and for just in cases, down the road. I had used this style in my converted FX Graflex several years ago (for the AUX slide switch), and it took me forever to find more of them! Then it occured to me,
"Mouser, you idiot!"
I couldn't find a single one on eBay or Amazon, I dunno if my search parameters just suck, or what. But I should've known to try Mouser, first.

Anyway, I'm just happy that my theories and ideas worked, for this. It's a fulfilling feeling, when things go according to plan. Even when it takes some maddening moments to get there!

Fill your boots Dann!

You should be proud of the incredible work you've done; it's exceeded my expectations and then some! I absolutely can't wait to get this in my hands!! :D

Awesome! Then I'll update this thread soon, as I give this Reveal Hilt its once or twice over to get it looking tip top, before it goes back to David!

There's some pretty cool little mods I've given this baby. Stay tuned, folks.

I gotta say, I LOVE the Yun saber! I think I might've missed it in the thread, but did you say you were selling these anywhere?

I didn't say anywhere that I was selling the Yun hilts, but I'd be happy to make another and sell it to you!

In other news, I've been working on David's Rylo Reveal, and while I haven't tackled the crystal chamber area, yet (need to disassemble and rebuild and glue everything in that area), the rest of the hilt is getting really close to being done.

I made a custom tri ring from 1/8" steel rod, and blued it. After these pics were taken, I reshaped it a little, so what you see here won't be the final appearance. There's brass tape in the emitter detail section, and several detail parts in the grip reveal area that I machined on the lathe.

Anyone who's familiar with the Rylo Reveal will notice all the work I put into the control box. I completely reworked and rebuilt it, cut away the area behind the LED plate, made an LED plate, cut the triangle holes into it and resized some original triangle LEDs. Drilled and tapped for the tiny M1.6 screws, modeled and printed my own black buttons, added the grey ABS and brass rails and had to mill away a very thin sliver of material in the lower body so that it would slide past the LED plate on the control box when it closes.

Also added a very slight ring to the pommel bottom face, and some small details to the nipple top face. Oh, and I've cut a more accurate circuit card for him, but I did that after these shots were taken.

Here's some teasers...

Possibly, yeah!

Shoot me a PM when the parts come in, and show me some pics and such. I should be able to tell you from looking at them whether I can do them or not.

That looks awesome! I have a Rylo as well as the EFX Reveal Sabers and I like what you've done with the Rylo.
