I remember back when I was trying to replicate this, some speculated the cycling field energizers could be from a brass dart:

I never thought so though. The grooves seem much too deep.

Yea I read that somewhere as well. I looked briefly but couldn't find anything close.

Not to de-rail, and of course I can't find it now to verify, but somewhere around here Don Bies noted that the body for this was a cardboard tube.
