Daft Punk Thomas Bangalter helmet build - FINAL p.20!

Re: Daft Punk Thomas Bangalter helmet build

Awesome, isnt that helmet supposed to have a smile though?

Breeze through Volpin's awesome writeup when you get the chance. He explains in it that this is a hybrid helmet, combining elements from different helmets along the way.

I'm actually really glad the helmet has the line-mouth. The smile always looks like Thomas was creeping on you.

Yes, the shot in the hotel room is me; shot by my friend Anne Almasy - who was also one of my wedding photographers!

Photo dump from Dragon*Con? YES!

My leathers were courtesy of Catherine Jones at GodSaveTheQueen Fashions. You can check out more of her work here as well as her FaceBook here

Coding was, once again, handled by James Moss - still some issues with the WiFi (an iOS update right before DC borked the sync code with the iPhone!) so right now the animations are controlled by a toggle switch that runs down the sleeve. This ended up being much easier in the long run, because even holding an iPhone in those gloves (let alone fishing one out of a leather pants pocket) is quite an ordeal.

I've got some more shooting scheduled in the coming days, but MAN this thing was fun to kick around the con in.

Visibility? Better than you'd think! The more lights on, the harder it got to see in darker areas, but overall no issues!

Temperature? Those fans were PERFECT! The costume was hotter with the helmet off than it was with it on. Easily the most comfortable costume to date. Also, no heat at all off the switching voltage regulator.

Battery life? I ran three 11.1V LiPo packs over the course of 4 days. Only one even dipped below 10.5V, the others never even got past 11.2! Thats with matrix, fans, and side lights running full-time.

So happy with the results. More to come soon!

i'd really like to see a shot from inside, especially with the lights on...

If this doesn't convince Daft Punk to go back to having LEDs in their helmets, nothing will.

Great job Harrison, I wish I had a time machine so I could see the photos from your future photo shoots right now.

;)

Ok, up until recently I honestly did not even know what Daft Punk was...:confused

All I can say is that that is totally awesome and truely a quality piece of "Prop"... I love it and I am extremely jealous!

I'm sorry, but every time I look at the picture below, all I can think of is the famous line from "Dumb and Dumber"
