I offer the advice that I fall back on myself...

Find out where he lives, visit him face to face and extract your payment/justice/retribution the way people did in the old days before the internet and long distance mail...

Screw me out of $$$, you will find me knocking on your front door in person soon thereafter, and not in much of a good mood, possibly in possession of a firearm, depending on the debt...

Just look at how stupid he looks. Have some pity on him because I don't think there's a cure for what he's got-at least not from what I gathered from his profile pic.

Unfortunatly that will still get you arrested.

See, the whole G**D*** country has been so Effing sissyfied that no one dares actually speak out as to what they feel...

We have to conform to those that are "offended" by someone saying "*******" online... It's a wonder there aren't people out on the sidewalks waiting to hear you say those words in public and commence to pummel you with rocks and stones...

there i fixed it.

its a shame the op fell into this. one would also think that seller's inexperienced with prop making, because fiberglassing paper is far from fiberglassed, even though you can reinforce fiberglassed paper with fiberglass, and judging by his videos, mostly either about that gun, or custom actionfigures.

which really werent that great. :/

going to your credit card company is a good route. id be interested how that works out.

what i dont understand is if the ebay auction was where was it said that the auction was for 700? how did it change from 700 to 200? if that was done outside of ebay that wont be protected by ebay standards, which from my understanding ebay does a refund thing now.

someone more familiar with ebay's refund policy, if im failing to understand it myself if there is one, could explain it. id also be interested in how that works out.

First red flag.....seller on Ebay . 2nd red flag....he wants you to paypal money as a gift.
Frankly I stay away from ebay....and if some guy asks you to pay an odd way that deletes any recourse available then I'd pass. It just isn't worth it.
I find much better props from licensed companies and some really talented guys here on the RPF. I don't know why you were looking on ebay for a D9 Gun when WETA was selling the excact replica on their web site right here for just $500:

District 9

Its unfortunate they are all sold out now. I may seek them out at the comic con. I hope you at least left some really bad feedback.

Not rock and stones....just a King James Bible and cross.

OP...have you tried calling your CC directly?

The pic on that guy's myspace page is one of the funniest things I've seen today. Makes you wonder if Darwin was wrong (or right pending on your view).

[...]

From sane world though, it sucks you were ripped like that. Get onto the credit card company asap, I'd say.

If it seems too good to be true it usually is. Crap that you got took in. can you (put a) link your vid to his?

On the plus side I love listening to you swear in your accent. :)

I would've thought that sending money via CC as a paypal gift would be considered a cash advance, and thus not eligible for CC protection, but it certainly would hurt to ask.

Personally, I'd like to see another video of that POS being torched - I'm sure the OP would be able to derive some satisfaction from the knowledge that their loss would provide some entertainment value to RPF'ers! :)

Regards,

Dave

Doubt it, I wouldn't. Watching it burn would just make me imagine taking a match to a couple hundred dollars.

I'd make a wall of shame and display it proudly.

the biggest mistake i made was trusting the guy to sell me what he said it was. yes , it was my fault that i got in this situation. the deal was done outside of ebay. i should have asked for more pics and not send payment as a gift. also i should have done some research on this guy. everthing about the deal should have been a red flag. but sometimes life happens. lesson learned.

the reason it was 220 becuase i was going to send him some parts for a prawn arm and the cash for the gun. once i got the gun i said forget the deal , i want a refund and i would ship it back to him. he did not want to refund all the money. then it went down hill from there.

i used paypal, so i don't see where my CC company would help. paypal sent him and email telling him to refund the money.

the main reason for the post was to warn others in dealing with this POS.

i plan to display it right next to my computer on the wall to remind me not to make stupid decisions.

you are correct on all counts. the reason i bought this was, that weta was sold out and i did not know about wondersquids. so i thought this was my only option.

speaking of which, I'm drawing instructions for your gun right now, but it's taking longer than anticipated, would you like me just to send the parts and get you the assembly instructions later? (I still owe a set of them to another guy). I feel horrible about what happened to you, so I really want to make sure you get a decent product, unfortunately I tend to get nit-picky about my own work and want to fix things that aren't broken. Just say the word man, I'll ship today if you need it that fast.

no worries, man. i have no doubt that your gun will rock. if you want to ship it that will be great, i don't really read instructions anyways. i guess that is why i don't make models. LOL!

if i have any question i will pm you.

I'd phone both ebay and paypal if necessary and explain if it. He's abusing ebays services by knowingly listing a misrepresented piece and word it to them in that way.

OP, your CC is the true decision make in a dispute, NOT PayPal.
While PayPal can rule in your favour and take the funds from him, if he has any, and
then refund them to you, as far as your CC is concerned, it was just that, a merchant refund. Not a resolution to a dispute.

You should call your CC and open a dispute, that WILL override PayPal and it WILL
override the irrespective issue of whether that moron has any funds. When your CC decides in your favour, which seems inevitable, the money will come from PayPal's account, then it is up to them to recover that from the moron.
