D.C.'s Supergirl (tv series)

I really enjoyed that episode. So, the Supergirl world is Earth...3?

I didn't get the whole "she saved us all" bit.....Uh no, she saved the helicopter and whoever was in it. At least they saw her save someone, but she's saved other people since the red K incident, no one seemed to care about those.

I could have done with a little more Barry, Silver Banshee's costume was dodgy, and winning over the city didn't feel quite earned to me but overall that was fun. Barry's certainly a natural fit on the show and has fantastic chemistry with Kara. Certainly the best superhero team-up I've seen in the past week.

That said, it's a little concerning that the best episodes of Supergirl have involved her influenced by Red K, heavily featured Martian Manhunter, and then guest-starred the Flash. I wish the show would be better when there wasn't a gimmick going on, but hopefully this uptick will maintain.

agreed...

The city saving could have been handled with JUST winning the fire fighters over. they could have seen the helicopter saved, maybe a police copter.....and then decided to help super girl right then and there considering the danger was upped for her by taking a lightning strike. Then Cat could have done a press conference with them and THAT could have slowly won the city over. Having a entire crowd saying 'she saved us'...was just goofy and weird.

Also, this whole james olsen thing. One of the cutest things in the Superman animated series...was seeing nerdy jimmy olsen being set up with the hot new woman on the block by superman no less. as someone who feels like the original unwanted nerdy jimmy olsen at times, I thought that was a neat little character building moment for him.
But, when you change jimmy olsen into a thor like stud..and make him a brave war correspondent...all the drama and fun for me is taken out of it. Of course supergirl is going to fall in love with him over poor wynn. there's no drama there...at least for me.

Also, the villain fight was incredibly cartoony..and that makes it awesome. that's more of what I would have wanted in smallville. not quick 1 minute battles after a commercial break and boom, it's over. it's amazing how much effects have advanced in only 6 years.

And yeah...I was surprised at how little barry seemed in it at times. I thought he'd be in every shot more than he was ;o).

But over all, THIS is what I'd like to see more of from WB. Not BvS or suicide squad.

In fact, if Supergirl gets another season, i'd like to see the JLAU episode of the suicide squad, with the clock king in it, adapted somehow.

That was the other thing that bothered me. So, Supergirl and superman (Possibly batman with the mask comment in another show)...are all that are on her earth?

Barry has NO superman or supergirl?

Unless you want to argue that superman is still training in the fortress and hasn't made his grand entry yet. thus supergirl hasn't arrived on his earth.

THey kind of shot themselves in the foot with a fun JLA team up.
I mean, even in the comics, the heroes know not to mess in the other heroes towns, unless absolutely needed. that's all the explanation really needed.

And where does this fit into The Flash timeline on his own show? When has he had that device on his chest and was just jumping from earth to earth? Did I miss that?

I really didn't see any need for this crossover to be an Infinite Earth deal. Just say he was visiting Star city. It's like they are just trying to avoid the old Marvel question; "Why don't you just call in all the Avengers everytime there is a crisis, instead of giving them their own movies."

we will see the Flash's part in a couple weeks, the showrunners said they wanted to make the episode order work but were unsuccessful.

the Supergirl world is Earth...3

Barry mentioned to Winn that he's been to the earth where everybody is evil already, making that Earth 3 as it is in the comics.

also,

If Barry can jump dimensions now... i'm assuming this is how he gets back to Earth 2...

I was thinking the Flash-Supergirl crossover would let me see if Supergirl has improved enough for me to pick it up again. Within 15 min, that episode gave me a quick and easy no. That was eye-rolling bad TV, I thought I was watching an SNL skit for parts of it.

Grant Gustin is just fool of charm and has a ton of charisma. I think he could save about any tv show out there right now. Over all I enjoyed this episode. I thought it had a nice lite goofy tone and after seeing BvsS thats what I needed. As much as I like the Supergirl Mythos I just don't know if this show has any long term future (on CBS that is. It might work on the WB).

Well, apparently we will see the precursor Flash episode in a couple of weeks. Apparently, they wanted to run them at the same time, but couldn't make it work with the schedules.

Please understand I don't think this show is bad by any means. But let's admit CBS is kind of a boring network and I think they took a leap on this one and I don't think it really fits their programming. Were as this show has enough of a following that the WB would probably be boosted by having it and the characters could really be fleshed out and it could lead to a very cool DC tv universe. (Even if Arrow and Flash are in different universes :facepalm).

Most of us are not the target demo for this show, as this show seems it's meant for young girls to young adult women. Being on CBS is definitely not helping, and if this had been on CW, the ratings probably would've been steadier, partly because Berlanti can make it more interconnected with the CW DC universe, and partly because CW already has the target female audience Supergirl is looking for.

Ratings boost from Flash and bucks the 4-week downward trend:

If CBS decides not to renew, I wonder if CW will pick it up. Supergirl could potentially be a good pair with iZombie for the same target demo, albeit the writing for iZombie is a lot better.

I think the saved us all bit comes from the fact that he lightning blast wouldn't vaporize the helicopter, or even blow it up, but likely simply cause it to crash right on top of the crowd....hence, saving them all.

If that blast had her down that long, isn't the deduction there that blast her with enough electricity and she dies? Doesn't seem to really fit...

See as a father I really want this show to work. I want my daughter to have a strong female to be able to look up to and know that she doesn't have to play the damsel in distress. I like the fact that they didn't ***** up the costume and even though it does wear on me a bit the whole girl power thing is not bad for as you said the target audience. I hope the WB picks it up if CBS doesn't.

I'm not a huge fan of Supergirl (Flash is my favorite), but I loved the line that Cat gave about the group's diversity being like a CW show. Actually made me laugh out loud a bit. What I wonder about, is that in Legends of Tomorrow, Rip made some comment early on about seeing a man of steel and dark knight or something like that. Has he been to these other earths if Superman isn't known in the Flash/Arrow world? And didn't Felicity mention Oracle when she was wheelchair bound-so maybe there is a Batman in Flash/Arrow world?

My little family loved it. I may have mentioned before but I have a 7 year old daughter, and her favourite is the Flash. She also LOVES Supergirl. She was pretty much Squeeing the entire episode.

Her opinion may not hold water to some of you guys....but she also loved BvS, as did I so...

Whenever Flash was in a scene - perfection. He elevated Supergirls show, but the final battle...how horribly corny. Supergirl is sometimes like the worst parts of smallville come together with better effects. And I loved Smallville but it had terrible plot holes and writing sometimes. This show is aimed at an audience that deserves more credit and smarter writing - some of the decisions and characterisations are so poor it's quite gutting.

There are moments of excellence, and some good acting with not so great material. I can't sit through a full episode though, I have to skip through them, which is bloody rubbish as I love these types of shows when they are done well.

Arrow is starting to get to this point aswell - some of the decisions and plot points are getting weak.

Flash maintains almost perfection for TV, with the occasional hiccup.

that's a good way to describe supergirl.

it's amazing how far tv effects have gotten in only ten years. where smallville would have had enough money for a 2 minute or less super battle, flash can spread it out to 4 minutes during the entire show so it seems bigger.

A live action cartoon could be fun... but some of the writing on supergirl brings the mood down considerably. as stated, most notably the cat speeches.
this writing staff and show runner needs to be fired and the show needs a soft reboot.

I liked flash from the start, and except for minor hiccups with this cross over nonsense...i look forward to it every week. the finale episode (?) last week was pure greatness

The Cat character is really starting to get on my nerves. The entire city is turned into mindless zombies with threat of world domination, even Superman is turned, and all she can do is still make snide, snarky, snobby remarks.

Did like the Harrison Ford reference, though.

So what did you guys think of the finale? Any speculations on the cliffhanger?

Here's my guess:
