Cyberman in FOAM!!! - WITH PATTERNS!!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

That is crazy funny, I was gonna post the scans I did last night, but I got too tired of trying to figure out 4shared. Can I ask how much and where, I would love a copy myself, but when I looked it was sold out and a rare item.

I found it in 2 places in the US, but the cheapest was out of Atlanta Ga. A store called Cult TV man. With shipping charges, it was $30.30 and I got it in 2 days. Priority Shipping was $.05 more then turtle speed. It is a real pain to find on their site, so here is the direct link

I ended up buying another issue from the publisher that arrived today. It had a variety of creatures from Who and Torchwood. I love reading these magazines. I can't believe how much insight they give to the creation process.
Since I ordered from the publisher, I guess I am on their email list now so I get emails when a new issue comes out with a brief description of what is in it. I will never miss one again with a Who connection!

Scouser, it is not everyone in the RPF that´s from the US, myself included. I have been to the website, and they do not ship to Brasil, which I would do if possible, and therefore I would like to ask you if you could scan and post them online, or perhaps even shooting pictures, if it´s too beyond your means... :)

Thank you so much :)

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Hey Scouser, thanks for the link, I'll order it up right away!
that is an amazing suit!!!
Thanks MagicRobot! I need to update, but things have been crazy at home, so many costumes, so little time!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Thanks Scouser, I just ordered a copy. I'm in Atlanta and was hoping to save the shipping charges but couldn't find an address so I'm guessing the guy is online only. Either way, It will soon be mine! Mwahahahaha ;)

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

What glue are you using? Is it the same glue for joining foam seams together and when attaching the foam to the gloves?

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Im just wondering as to when we are going to start seeing these excellent templates being published here..

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Dude,
totall inspiring-case in point: here's my helmet that I threw together this weekend in 1/4" foam, just gotta paint it! Nowhere near as good as yours, but I need it this Friday. Thanks for the inspiration, your work is fantastic!

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

CyberMen are the best Doctor Who bad guys ever. I have wanted to see a sweet costume for soo long!:thumbsup

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

One of the extensive discussions I got into with a few friends from the UK is why the Daleks scare them more and the Cybermen scare us Yanks more. The Daleks represent all the qualities of the SS Branch of the Nazi's and the generation of Brits that first hid behind the couch from them still had first hand or nearly first hand exposure as a culture to them. The Cybermen in the otherhand represent loss of choice and individuality which are primary drivers in the American psyche and therefore frighten the tar out of us.

But enough psychobabble; the things you are doing out of foam are amazing! That Cybergear looks good enough to use in the show.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

I have no idea what doctor who is but this is AWESOME.:eek

I too am a fan of the foam builds and I am wondering what glue you used on the fingers? The seams are too delicate and too clean to be hot glue. I need to make some gloves for my desert storm batman and this could be useful.

Thanks!

Keith

Awesome build and technique!

I'm wondering the same thing? What glue and what did you use to seal the foam for painting?

Thanks!

Let me be the first to say "How can you not know about Doctor Who?" Anyway, if for no other reason, check out the costumes-Cybermen, Daleks, Oods, Weeping Angels-a lot of costuming fun here!

Well here's the sticky situation, I am afraid that if I just give you the patterns there will be a lot of confusion as to how to use them. I post this question to the few of you who want the patterns, would you need instructions to be able to understand how I use the patterns, or can I just give out the patterns themselves and you use the markings I have made on them to figure out how they go together? Please don't misunderstand, I have done this before (not on the forum here) and have had people tell me they needed me to help them build the pieces from my patterns. This is why I haven't put them up. Let me know what you guys and gals want.

Hey Looch, nice helmet! If I can suggest something, you might want to use some felt and spray glue to seal your surface. It would totally finish off all that great work you've done!

What glue are you using? Is it the same glue for joining foam seams together and when attaching the foam to the gloves?
The glue is Barge, it's a contact adhesive that works very well for foam. I use it on EVERYTHING. In fact, I just discovered that when thinned with the Barge thinner it can be brushed on fabric surfaces to seal it before coating. The trick is to brush it carefully and in some cases use two coats and I guarantee that foam will tear before the seam gives.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

I don' think we can really know if we'd need help until we see a piece of it. Maybe if you could post an arm or leg section we could give you some feedback.

Great idea Risu, I'll try to post something this week.

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

Maybe you could number the pieces, something like pepakura, to help with assembly.Just a thought.Love the progress pics.I would love to see your talent attack the task of making a Dalek suit:lol

Re: Cyberman - at last!! IN FOAM!!!

OK kids, here's the challenge! This is all the patterns for the Cybershade mask I made a few posts earlier, you can ask questions, but I really want to see what you come up with, so show all your masks here! This will help me decide what form the patterns need to be in.

They should come out as full size on legal (8 1/2" x 14") print accordingly, but in terms of scaling I use programs like photoshop for that, I don't know of a freeware program that you could use, post here what you guys and gals use so we can all have fun.

Good luck and god speed!
