Fantastic job! That is a great cyberman. Now I just need to get a group of friends together and make them. It would be great to outnumber the stormtroopers at a convention.

If you're looking for the foam for this build you might want to check out your local Harbor Freight. The one near me in Lilburn, GA is having a Parking Lot Sale this weekend and the packs of foam pads are $6.99 (down from $9.99). I just picked up a nice stack of them to hopefully turn into a Cyberman. Now, If I could only get my hands on the patterns. (glances towards Wondersquid) ;-)

This is a great idea, i got mine down to $4.99 by having several friends and several 20% off coupons :) As to those patterns....:unsure

Forgot to mention, they also have the razor knife you used on sale as well. Based on one of your pics I believe its the same one. I think it was $4.99 and came with 5 extra blades.

I would really like to see those patterns as well especially for the upper arms but i think i can handle the rest. BTW here is my latest work. I finally finished building the lower arm gauntlets..they just need sealer and paint and ive redone my left cyberglove now i just need to do the right handed glove

Cybermanguy, how does your glove compare to a rubber style glove like latex? I really would like to have an alternative that looks good and maybe just do a light layer of latex over something like you have made to give it the look without having to make a mold. Still torn between what method to use since the whole suit takes forever and a day to make. (I'm not doing foam)

I really am happy with what i have finally come up with for the glove, however if you are comparing it to a latex glove like the originals are made of i would have to say that this is the Next Best thing. You would be surprised what you can do with Foam.

I know you said (I'm not doing foam) but you may want to reconsider atleast incorporating it for use at some point. After working with it myself, i have discovered just how resiliant of a material it is to form and shape. Heck ive even found that it can be sanded.
Actually i have decided to finish up in foam after seeing what wondersquid came up with but with one exception...i am going to use the voice changer lid with weaseflingers back half cast for the "brain bucket".

Pepekura was truly driving me crazy especially with seeing that some of the parts were actually incorrect...like the way the chest has a rounded center. I had to struggle many times with the numbers overlapping as well, which was really maddening. I need to finish up the right handed glove but i sat it aside and started making a template for my right thigh and plan on just cutting it out of foam tonight, So my next update will be to have pix of that. I have seen pix of your pep work and it looks great but i cannot help to think about all the bondo and sanding and ect. that will be required to get a finished product that looks good, which is another reason i have abandoned finishing up that way. I am enjoying this build much more now that i have made the choice to change materials. Things also seem to be moving much faster and with much better results than pepekura. There are pros and cons with any material you work with so what matters most is that we all get to the same place in the end without driving ourselves crazy :wackoi guess.

Trust me, the bondo and sanding is driving me crazy 10 fold over the building of the pieces. I took a break for the last few weeks since I have finals starting next week and also because I had to build some Sontaran parts. I plan to post them tonight, at least what I have done. The helmet just needs the bottom reworked some to sit more even on the neck. If I can finish up my school work this weekend, I hope to start putting bondo on the lower arm pieces. Not sure I have the patience needed for bondo, but I am going to keep pushing. I just wanted something more rigid and sturdy then foam for the cyberman otherwise, I am sure I would be using foam since I have tons of it in my garage.

I will hold off on the gloves for a few weeks and see how yours work out. Can you give a little detail on how you are building it? Like is the whole glove foam? It looks like it fits your hand pretty well. Maybe you answered that in your links... sorry, will go look before I keep asking questions lol.

Last thing i read from wondersquid about patterns was...
"As to those patterns.... :unsure " So im guessing they are not going to be available. However the alternative is that You can design some of these parts fairly easy just by simply finding the correct sizing and shape to fit your personal fittings. One way to do this is to use aluminum foil and duct tape to find the circumference of your part.
Once you figure that out, you just need to sketch out any of outer detail work to your liking.

After i formed the alu foil around my thigh i taped it up for support so it kept its shape and then i cut it in half to use as a pattern

MOST IMPORTANTLY : Be sure that your aluminum foil pattern is exactly the way you want it before actually placing it on your foam matting for cutting because i made that very mistake myself without even realizing it and only after it was finished and seeing it on my leg did i come to the conclusion that i did not build the ridge of the thigh to the proper length that i wanted.
So now i have re-designed a new thigh Extended length included, which will have to be re-cut in foam unfortunately as a setback of my time and money..as it takes 4 mats to make these thighs.
Anyhow.....Good luck to ya ...and post some pix. OH yeah....one more thing....DO NOT USE DULL BLADES TO CUT THE MATTING!! You will find that Always using a new blade will yield Excellent results and should not grab the foam unlike a dull blade.

the particular piece in question was constructed of two small rectangular pieces of foam glued together in order to gain its correct depth,strength,width so that i could use a dremel and simply sand out a rounded center in which the dowel will be seated..then after placing the dowel i topped it off with a 3mm piece of craft foam for additional support and security keeping my eye on what the final part should look, i used a really nice EXTREMELY HIGH RES pic to look at for a very close up view. I dont know if its ok to post such a large picture here on the forum because it takes up so much room but it is extremely helpful to have a photo that shows such great detail..."its almost like your standing next to the suit" you can quote me on that!!!

Wow! CybermanGuy you can hi-jack anytime! Not only are you doing a great job on your patterning, but that Hi-rez reference shot is amazing, I wish I had that before I did my under suit, that showed the most detail I have seen yet. Yes I will be releasing the patterns! Stop pestering, I think I may have found a way to do this, but it's been a serious challenge to scan pieces that are WAAAYYY too big for posting. I also have two day jobs guys (and gals) I wish I had the time to devote to cleaning these up, but since there seems to be a dedicated few who need to Upgrade immediately, i will start to post what i can get up here. They will just be scans of my originals, but the scale issue still plagues me. Any suggestions on how I can make sure that all the scans are at the same scale? Not to mention, I still have yet to see anyone's Cybershade tests. If you thought that was too easy, wait till you see the head patterns for the Cyberman!
