Custom Star Wars Holopad

Hey everyone. I just wanted to show off this little project that TubaChris and I have been working on. The idea was sparked form a picture I saw of a Royal Guard holding a Holopad with a hologram Palpatine. Well, since I am working on a Royal Guard I figured why not! Right now this pad does have a blue LED lighting to simulate the blue glow of a hologram and the pad itself is fully complete. Right now we have also started the molding of a Palpatine bust to cast in clear blue resin which would fit on top finishing the effect of the Holopad. As of now all I have to show is the pad itself but the Palpatine should be following suit very soon! Hope you guys like and any feed back is GREATLY appreciated!! Will keep you all in the know.
Cheers!

Now for some Pics:

This was a cool piece to help build up, might be making one or two more for some people and to try and perfect it

We got around to getting the 1st part of the Emperor molded in plaster. Just some pics from today, we demolded it and it came out fairly well despite it being our first time plaster molding.

Well, the clear resin cast was pulled out of the plaster mold and it came out pretty nice. Needs some clean up and repair but overall I am happy with the turnout. The only thing is that it came out with a shade of Yellow. But once you put the light on, you can't even tell. Well, this is not finished yet but here is the progress of the bust. Enjoy.

Gotta say that this was an interesting experience, considering that this was our first time making a plaster mold. The best thing is that the casting fits perfectly with the holopad.

As stated, this first casting is merely the test piece, from which, we will be re-working, improving, cleaning up, and then re-molding in silicone. We will then be testing different brands of clear resin. I will say that the pics do not do it any justice if you saw it person. We are looking forward to completing the rest of this project

Never done one before but this would be a great piece to do a pressure cast piece to clear out any bubbles on the finished piece.

Yeah it was hard to work with. There are some bubbles in the cast but not too many. Yet still, I am aiming for a piece with no bubbles but it might be a goal that is up to chance:lol.

As for the parts, yes they are found parts. And it was a shower drain used for the top...good eye. Not sure the parts numbers though. It was originally intended to be a little side project for my guard. I just grabbed some parts and started throwing them together. I was amazed to see what came out of it. I am going to try the same random method to make a clone version. Once I go for parts, I'll try to remember this time.

I probably won't start that though till after we figure out the Palpatine bust attachment and reconfig the pad itself.
