I found a photo of my Great Grandfather on the LIFE image search!!
He sunk a German U-Boat in WWII and captured it's crew. He was the first person in WWII to be awarded the Navy Cross.

Your grandfather was in the Coast Guard during WWII?

My grandfather was also in the CG during WWII...

Luckily I have a few of the LIFE magazines he was in.

You can go diving off the coast and see the U-Boat he sunk.
