Constantine: Lighter Project *UPDATE 04-09-2009 - Pics of brass parts are up*

Unless you have someone lined up already for the machining, you may want to talk to Clay (that is if you havn't already). i'm sure you've been following the knuckles thread and can see what he can do (and at the cost he can do it at).

Errr... this topic has dragged on for so long that I may have missed the answer to my question, but:

Why does everyone agree this was a Zippo?

Thanks in advance,

JAS

because in the behind the scenes section "Holy Relics" on the DVD the prop master states
"we actually used the inside of a real zippo lighter because, being prop men we want to make sure it works and, I tell ya, theres nothing better than a zippo because it lit all the time, it was great."

Just finished the final blueprint for a machined prototype. This prototype will determine if everything fits and the opening and closing will go as intended. Let's hope Clay can use Rhino3D files :)

Im pretty sure we can input these. If not we have converters that should be able to handle it.

Look great so far....

Could this not be interpreted to mean that the "lamp" portion of the lighter, which is - obviously - on the inside was zippo, but not necessarily the case? I'm just asking because watching the film, the case seems somewhat larger than a standard zippo case.

The casn't wasn't a zippo. That's why it's taken so long for this project to move along. No one ever said the outside was a zippo. The case has to be machined and then the zippo insert will be placed inside. There's a Japanese version out there, which I believe TDR has, that is a licensed piece in a standard zippo case. The film version was completely custom on the outside.

yea, the outer case was carved out of solid brass as stated in the extra features, only the internal components were from an actual zipper

Not sure if I missed this but approx. how much would one of these lighters cost and how much would a fair price for the DC direct version be?

i dont think cost has been discussed here and i think it should be left to the junkyard when the project is done, The DC direct one being only available in Japan and so hard to get, you can expect to pay upwards of $130+ for it including shiping and importing fees

In another Constantine thread, it was pointed out, that the lighter seen in the movie seems to have a couple of different details compared to the one seen in the documentary. And there are a couple of differences:

1)There are similar lines on the side with the hinges as the ones on the other side (with the text)
2)The hinges seem to be fully sunk into the brass pieces
3)different screws. Hex screws used on the docu one, standard screws on the movie one
4)In the docu one, there are 2 holes above the hinges, these are absent in the movie one.

looks like i will make a couple of changes to my blueprint :)

P.S. Thanks to TimDrakeRobin, for being so observant :)
