Comparsion: Han Solo blasters (ROTJ)

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Thanks for posting all those pics, Marcus. :)

It's like a collage of "The King". ;) :D

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

BTW: There are Bolo Broomhandles made w/ full size grips.
Right. I should have qualified my statments regarding "Bolo" mausers.

Generally speaking Bolo mausers are the small gripped and short barreled, but there where Bolos made w/ full grips and short barrel and small gripped versions with long barrels.

I think the small gripped short barreled version are the most common and typically what you find when a Bolo mauser is advertised.

Come to think of it, my ANH Hero is built on a full sized grip short barreled Bolo. :redface

BD's machined bunker flash hider:
BD%20machined%20bunker%20muzzle.jpg

This photo is actually the flash hider on the REAL prop, not a BD replica.

I just got home from vacation so I'll have to look over this thread more thoroughly later.

The muzzles on the two MGC versions appear to be machined Delrin. They're silver painted and chipping/wearing to black.
All the machined pieces appear to be Delrin (pistons, mounts etc.)

The Stembridge gun appears to have an aluminum muzzle.

The pistons and milled details vary on the two MGCs. I could do 100% accurate blueprints for these if anyone wants to tackle them. I have a real MGC I want to mill like the "Bunker" version. I would also like to have "Bunker" version pistons made (Bobadebt's were the other version).

Hey Chris..welcome back!

Thanks guys for your input, will update the summary shortly.

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Great discussion, guy. I guess I didn't know that there were this many variations of the ROTJ blaster. If anyone decides to do a part run, I would be interested in learning more details.

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

I have been thinking about doing a run of Han ROTJ MOM style scopes for a while now. They would look like the scopes shown here. http://www.kurtyboy.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/images/rpf/rotj_other2.jpg

They would be made in 2 pieces (The scope body and the scope insert eyepiece). they would be aluminum, hollow, and semi see through (like the original frosted non functional lense).

If I could get 15-20 people I think that I can do them for 35.00 a set.

Is there any interest?

Thanks

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Hey Dan

Afaik there are still plenty of scopes from Davids last run out there, but an interest thread won´t hurt ;)

What´d be great is to see a run of UNidealized ROTJ muzzles for the "other" version with the uneven cubes. Any plans for that?

PM´d/ emailed you :)

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Here´s another update of the summary...

Chris:
It´d be great to see some drawings of the different pistons!
I didn´t know there are variations between them.

Kurtyboy also talked about the different bores in the pistons (centered, off left, off right), maybe we could define what would be correct for which blaster as well!?

SUMMARY:

Version: "BUNKER" (based on MGC C96)
Muzzle- Painted delrin, Short even cubes
Scope- WITH frontcap, 2nd half scope-ring under back of scope-bell
Bumper- WITH slotted screw
Grips- Unpainted
Milled details- Slightly bigger
Pistons - Painted delrin, attached with phillips head screws

Version: "Other" (based on MGC C96)
Muzzle- Painted delrin, Long UNeven cubes
Scope- NO cap (probably present during filming though. Just missing now)
Bumper- NO screw
Grips- Painted black
Milled details- slightly smaller
Pistons - Painted delrin, attached with rivets

Version: "Stembridge" (based on real C96)
Muzzle- Aluminium, Long even cubes
Scope- Full scope
Bumper- None
Grips- Chequerd and unpainted, possibly changed during production
Milled details- Possibly none?
Pistons - 2 pistons on the left, but no piston on the right side (the prop did have 2 pistons on the left side originally - at the time that it was sold, the upper piston half was missing -> with residue remaining in its place that appeared to be epoxy).
- Washers on the scope mount appear to be brass and not as tapered as on the other blasters.
- The 'screws' on the scope mount don't appear to have a slot. The top surfaces are flat.
- NO lanyard

Hey mods:
How about saving this thread once it´s "done"? :)

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Ok. Watched ROTJ again tonight and I only "noticed" 3 different Han blasters on screen(not counting production and post-production stills).

The first blaster Han pulls out when C3PO warns that "someone is coming" looks to be the same blaster used when Han first enters the bunker and heads down the steps with the group. It also looks to be the same blaster that Han has when the last of the Troopers come out of the bunker and the Ewoks start hoopin' and hollerin'. It looks much like the MoM version, but has a dull grey muzzle(possibly resin or painted delrin?) with a smaller bore size in the muzzle.

The second version, which I believe to be the MoM version, is used when Han creeps up on the Scout Trooper and steps on and snaps the twig. I believe the same one is used when Han draws his blaster on the Ewoks for sticking the spear in his face. It appears that it's also the same blaster that the Trooper is holding when the Rebels come out of the bunker with their hands on their heads. This version has 3 pistons, 1 square detail and a "shiny" muzzle(maybe machined aluminum?) with a bigger bore size in the muzzle.

The last version is, of course, the Stembridge version used at the "shootout at the bunker" scene. It DOESN'T have a lanyard and DOES have the checkered grips(both of which I previously thought wrong:redface) and has 2 pistons on the left side, no piston or square detail on the right side, brass scope tip and washers, shiny muzzle with an even bigger bore size in the muzzle(possibly due to being a real Mauser firing blanks).

I think that both the MoM and Stembridge versions end up being on the ground next to each other when the fighting commences and I guess Han happens to pick up the Stembridge version to use in the shootout.

The cube size on the muzzles look to be different on ALL 3 blasters and only looks uniform on the Stembridge.

I know a lot of this is already known, but I REALLY looked hard tonight to see how many versions there were and what their differences are.

Chris-

How does this compare to your research? :)

Chris...thanks for the extra detective work.

I edited my summary :)

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Ladies and gentlemen

Since the research for the Lando general blaster gave me nothing but frustration and made no progress at all, I´m leaning torwards some other projects...

One is to upgrade my Han ESB blaster with an accurate muzzle!
Could anyone please post some pics AND measurements of the muzzle that came with the MR Han blaster? I´d like to compare it with the actual prop...

Second project is to tackle all the different Han ROTJ blasters.
I know this topic has been covered before but I just can´t find the thread(s) anymore...:$

So, how many HAN ROTJ blasters do we know of?
- Hero
- Bunker
- alt. Bunker version with H&W scope
- Stembridge blaster (?)

The hero and the bunker version feature the milled details on their left side...are they identical or do they show slight variations in the milled areas?
Anyone with pics of the different blasters?

Many thanks in advance,

Markus :)

I have some of the muzzles available--PM me

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Hey mods...since no real new discoveries were added over the last time, would it be possible to have this thread archived?

The summary is pretty complete IMHO and there´s plenty of information about the different blasters they used during production.

Re: Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

This is such a great thread. I've recently decided to make a Han RotJ Blaster and just bought a replica Mauser, so this is a BIG help. Now I need to just get all the pieces. Is there one source for all of them, or do you need to go to one guy for the flash suppressor, one guy for the scope, etc?

Also, how have you guys been doing the milling for the little indented holes on the left side? Do you dremel them?

Thanks to everyone who contributed. :)

Chris

Are there any good screen grabs that show the weathering?

Re: Comparsion: Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Given the recent activities around ROTJ blasters, I´d thought it´d be helpful to necro-bump this thread.

Some useful information in here ;)
