Comparsion: Han Solo blasters (ROTJ)

Ladies and gentlemen

Since the research for the Lando general blaster gave me nothing but frustration and made no progress at all, I´m leaning torwards some other projects...

One is to upgrade my Han ESB blaster with an accurate muzzle!
Could anyone please post some pics AND measurements of the muzzle that came with the MR Han blaster? I´d like to compare it with the actual prop...

Second project is to tackle all the different Han ROTJ blasters.
I know this topic has been covered before but I just can´t find the thread(s) anymore...:$

So, how many HAN ROTJ blasters do we know of?
- Hero
- Bunker
- alt. Bunker version with H&W scope
- Stembridge blaster (?)

The hero and the bunker version feature the milled details on their left side...are they identical or do they show slight variations in the milled areas?
Anyone with pics of the different blasters?

Many thanks in advance,

Markus :)

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

The ROTJ bunker version is an MGC but there is also a second MGC with slightly different milled details and a different flash hider. I

The one at MOM with the grips painted black is the 'other' MGC.

There isn't any good reference that I've seen showing the milled details on the bunker version. Just blurry close ups from a poster and postcard.

The last ROTJ muzzle that BD machined was the bunker version which has shorter cubes, the previous one he machined was the 'other' MGC version although he idealized it slightly because the original has unevenly sized cubes.

I'll try and dig out the OOOOOLLLLD pictures!

Hey Marcus

I remember the thread about the different ROTJ blasters, but can´t find it anymore. I have a machinist on hand who could do the milling for me, but I need good references to get it done right.

Wasn´t the stembridge blaster based on a real C96?

If we know for sure, that the overall dimensions of the MR Han ESB muzzle is correct, we´d be able to create a blueprint of an accurate, unidealized version ;)

I updated my first post. My memory was a bit sketchy but I've refreshed it :wacko

Sent you a bunch of reference photos Markus! :love

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

It's all coming back to me now...

The bunker version has a slotted screw through the square rubber furniture foot on the right side and phillips head screws through the piston halves.

The 'other' version does not have a screw through the rubber foot and it has rivets through the piston halves.

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Got your pics Marcus, thanks a million!

So let´s sum it up:

Version: "BUNKER" (based on MGC C96)
Muzzle- Aluminium, Short even cubes
Scope- WITH frontcap
Bumper- WITH slotted screw
Grips- Brown
Milled details- Slightly bigger
Pistons - Phillips head screws

Version: "Other" (based on MGC C96)
Muzzle- Aluminium, Long UNeven cubes
Scope- NO cap (broken off)
Bumper- NO screw
Grips- Painted black
Milled details- slightly smaller
Pistons - Rivets

Version: "Stembridge" (based on real -red9- C96)

The front cap on the 'other' MGC was probably present during filming though. Just missing now.

Version: "Stembridge" (based on real -red9- C96)
Muzzle- Looks most like the long uneven cubes
Scope- Full scope
Bumper- None
Grips- Chequerd and unpainted
Milled details- Possibly none?
Pistons - None?

Also, the washers on the scope mount appear to be brass and not quite as tapared as on the other blasters. The 'screws' on the scope mount don't appear to have a slot. The tops are flat.

The Stembridge version(the one Han uses to pick off a few Stormtroopers) has pistons on the left side, but doesn't have the piston on the right side. It doesn't have the square rubber foot either. However, it does have the lanyard while on screen. The post production pic from Stembridge shows the lanyard missing. :confused

Are we even sure the flash hiders are metal? Chris T will know.

Ham, I think your wrong about the lanyard on the Stembridge blaster. I don't think it was ever there because I'm pretty sure that the Stembridge gun is actually a Bolo Mauser whose grip frame has been modified to acomidate regular size Mauser grips. And I'm not sure that there was ever any pistons on the Stembridge blaster either, I think that the pistons were made and sent to Stembridge, but never used. Dan-

Then there is another version with brass washers, brass scope tip, no piston and bumper on the right side, but 2 pistons on the left side with a lanyard used in the "bunker" scene. I assumed that was the Stembridge version. I figured they changed the grips later because the one Han uses doesn't have the checkered grips either.

kurtboy-

I believe at least 1 version used a resin flash hider. I *think* it's the one from MoM. 2 of the versions used some sort of metal flash hiders.

Bolo mausers frequently come with lanyard rings. The grip section is also shaved down on the front and back. So if the Stembridge blaster was a bolo, they either added material to the grip area so the wood didn't stick out over the frame or they cut off the grip section and welded a new one on it.

Interesting, IRONMAN. That might explain a few things. ;)

Thanks for the info. :)

Ham, do you have pics of this version?

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

No pics. Just hours and hours of watching and pausing the "bunker" scene in HD.:lol :D

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

I also think the blaster that kurtboy is talking about(the one with the slothead screws in the square detail and pistons) has half of a 2nd scope ring attached to the rear of the scope bracket.

Re: Qestions reg. Han Solo blasters (ESB/ROTJ)

Absolutely right! I completely forgot about that detail.

BD offered a service a while back to modify one of the scope rings to fit the back of the scope. I've got one lying around somewhere.

Anyone else notice which blaster Han seems to be carrying on the original ROTJ poster? Oddly it has a lanyard ring:

Looks like the 'weird' one from the cut bunker raid scene.

And Lonepigeon's sketch of the weird blaster. Apart from the flash hider it appears to be a re-arranged Han ANH hero!
