Cmdr Harkin and guard. Firefly Cosplay

My wife and I from Dragon*Con 2012.

The Alliance Officer costume was made by Darth Mule here on the board using screen shots and months of research on both our parts.
The "buttons" were sourced from the costume house that made the original costumes for the TV show, and since they are no longer made - they custom cast enough for me from the screen-used uniform in their archives!

The hat device and throat medallion are cast from a screen-used example and were purchased from BronsonBB here on the boards several years ago.

The Alliance trooper armor was acquired by a clearing house in LA and modified by myself using the screen accurate painting process and the many resources here and on FFP.net.

We won Best Firefly/Serenity Costume!

The worst part of that Officers outfit...?
I didn't do it first.

:)
You guys look great! I gotta step up my game! :)

EDIT: BTW, you're gonna have to share your button source with me, man.

Thanks Bronson.

If I am able to make it to con this year we can talk then.
Like i mentioned - the buttons were custom cast by the prop-house as somewhat of a favor.
I could see about casting one of mine - I don't know if they will do it again.

Thanks!
This is a cosplay I had wanted to do for a while!
I'm glad it finally came to fruition.

Looks fantastic!
I saw this photo in a thread over at FFProps, but didn't get 'round to commenting.
You could definitely do a whole thread on the Alliance officer's uniform.
Great job on sourcing the buttons.
I remember a discussion on them awhile back.

The trooper uniform looks super.
Only thing, the "knee pads" should be elbow pads.
(EDIT: Oh, I see in your other thread you knew that and just made a change...nevermind)
Ya'll did a very nice job on the paint job.
That vexed me for years, and now that I know the colors,
I just haven't been able to bring myself to doing my five sets of armor and helmets.
(Do you know how much masking that is on JUST the helmets? Ughh!)
Also nice, that you found the flight suit for the trooper uniform.

You guys make a great couple.

Thanks Mike!
Yeah - I go by Citizen_Browncoat on FFP.net :)

We used Centurions "armored" SWAT shin guards because it was the closest things we could find - as by all looks of it - the ones for the show were custom made.

I know there have been attempts to find them that proved fruitless and I think Bronson of someone else was trying to pep and cast some - but that ended up going nowhere.

Got lucky on the flight suit - they were on sportsmans guide - mines a bit short - but thank god for the shin guards - lol - you can't tell.

Like you noticed we didn't go *completely* screen accurate on the trooper - but I think we captured the essence of what they would have been.

The paint scheme was found by accident after a LOT of Internet trolling.
I have a link to the process where it was posted on the 76ths forums. I can't remember if I posted it on FFP or not.

I'll link you once I'm back on my computer if you're interested.

Thanks for the complents!

Also Mike - you can just freehand the paint job.

It's just craft paint - not rattle cans - so I used a foam detail brush and dabbed it on in layers - helps achieve the proper "look" and requires no masking.

You could prob layer over the existing paint already on your sets with no problem - maybe a little roughing up.

No masking required :)
That's the beauty of it - lol
