Classic Viper Build-up -- FINISHED!

The Harrier pilot looks pretty cool.  But it is just a tad too big.

I know you have the MiM kit, I don't know if it came with a pilot or not, but I just started to work on mine.

The Harrier pilot is the exact same size as the Viper pilot Jesse has in his kit.

There is not much left of his lower half to get him to sit like the Viper pilot.

I moved the right arm so it is sitting on his leg more and I added a face mask of my own creation.

Now I gotta go and make a joy stick.

Thanks WC for the pic hosting.

Well the Apogee worker who came to Icons to supply us with a casting from the original molds,
and gave us photos told us the figures were from Racecars, not Pilot figures.

I don't think you can get any better confirmation other than
someone who actually worked on the original show Models. :)

Ive heard that racecar driver pilot theory before...and I can't say that it isn't true...but I do have pictures from Apogee of them preparring 4 pilots for Vipers and they definitly are not racecar driver figures...this is not to say that both types were not used...just to say that Race car drivers were not used exclusively.  The picture everyone keeps referencing is one of the earliest hero models (I believe) and as a result could be different then the ones made later for the show.

Hmmm....Im torn. Dave H. (who worked with you) shared with me some wonderful pictures...some reference the racecar driver (or what I believe is it) and others are of the harrier pilot. (or what looks like it to me) He told me they were all from Apogee. I don't mean to sound like a know it all, cause obviously you were there and I wasn't...I was simply referencing information I got from pictures shared with me.

I guess, Im not sure what to think...Propsculptor was there...so he would know better..any thoughts re: the pictures Dave sent me? I can ask him when I get back I guess.

Incidentally, these are the three models/pics I'm using as primary reference material:

I just realized that the ship in the bottom pic has unique wing panel engraving when compared to all other versions...

Is this old news?

This one...

After studying a photo essay of my model, I have a tad bit more work to do. Hopefully finished pics by tomorrow. gotta keep up with Lynn. ;)

Awesome Viper..
I definatly like the SS Look instead of the idealized look, it is very refreshing.

I'm trying to do all my SS models with the off the stage/set look instead the idealized desk top display model look.

I can build a Revel, AMT, or a Monogram what ever ship if I want an idealized desk top display model.

I'll tell you what -- even in these pics, it looks cleaner than she does in person....

In person, it truly does have that "almost TOO dirty" look you'd expect from a filming miniature.

What do you think about the panel lines? In person and up close, they're too strong for the scale. BUT when you back up 3' to 5', it looks just right... I used Euro 1 Gray (not black).

And a (mildly) funny story -- the gray section between the engine cans... I was modeling the ref pics from Cloudster.com. I later learned that it is gray because the owner of the model had cast a replacement part as part of a restoration. Doh.

Hi all

I've been in touch with Jestefarean about this kit a month or so back and he kindly sent the price etc and pointed out it is a limited run. I've got the cash together now so I've sent a recent email regarding ordering one.
I've not heard anything back and was wondering if he's away or something. I've had email trouble recently though so I'm not sure if he's replied, and I don't want to pester him with another mail. Anyone know if he's still producing them ?

Thanks for any help

Phil

PM him instead of emailing him.

I received my SS Viper from Jesse today.

Fantastic detail and casting job. Thanks.

I didn't know it came with the "Bird" base, nice touch.

Hope my lame weathering skill can do it justice.

Maybe I can get some tips from Cerney on this one.

She is quite a kit and the Bird Base is actually cast from an original Pilot Helmet piece. It was flatened and cast. Great kit all around.
