Cool, thanks..
I hope it works for you, I'll be using mine as well. ;)

I can't wait to see what you do with the Harrier pilot, it looks like it has a face mask on in the pic.

I'm thinking about sculpting one on mine.

I got my package today also, great pics.
Thanks,
Lynn

Here is where I am. The panels are painted and the ship has been sanded smooth. I'm ready for the decals before I weather it. Any decal advice? Decal solution, etc,...

You're lucky to have decals. My kit did not have them (recall its the MiM kit). I had to mask and paint my stripes.

Well, the decals were a nightmare. I got two sets. A 'fresh' set and a 'weathered' set. I wanted to use the 'fresh' set as the hero Viper I was trying to repricate had unweathered stripes on it. Unfortunately, the decals stretched, bled and fell apart. I managed to salvage them and I think the end result looks quite battle scarred and appropriate. Pics soon.

Ouch...sounds like I got you a bad set of decals. Im sending you a PM.

I just posted some pics but they didn't seem to show up. Here they are again. The pilot isn't done yet. The weathering is a bit heavier than it appears in the photos:

Looking good..

One thing I have been told many times weathering props, if you can't see the weathering too good in photos under flash or if you have to say "it is really darker in person then in the photos", it isn't done enough.

I personally would darken it some more as I think it is a little light.

My goal is this ship

This thing would have to be really filthy and grungy in person for that weathering to show up under flash and under camera ligths.

Lyn-

Believe it or not, I think this photo is actually a painting, not a three dimensional model from the show. I don't remember any models on the show looking that grungy, studio lights or not.

That looks like a Viper photo I had in a Modelmaking book, also while working at Icons we had the same pic & in that pic they used a Racecar driver as the pilot.

Hhmmm... Interesting. It really looks like a model, but I can see that it could be a painting upon closer look.

That is interseting as well.
I'm still going to use my Harrier pilot as I don't want to look for a race car driver in that scale.

Any progress on the MiM kit?

I'm dieing to see what you did with the harrier pilot.

Its basically finished. My DSL connection at home has been down for the past week or so, and I've been out of the loop so to speak.

I used a weathering style for the fuselage not seen on the ref pics I have, but it looks natural -- its the style where the weathering is heavy at the leading edge of a panel, and lightens as it goes farther down the panel. You'll see what I mean. I think its used more often on aircraft models.

The Harrier pilot looks pretty cool. But it is just a tad too big. I'm nealy 100% positive that it is due to generational shrinkage of the ship cast itself. I believe Jesse states the models we have are about 1.5" shorter than the originals.

DAMmit.. So was the whole Harrier pilot thjeory incorrect.?

I'm just kidding -- I'm totally happy withthe harrier pilot; it looks cool.

I'll be posting pics hopefully by Friday.

Ive heard that racecar driver pilot theory before...and I can't say that it isn't true...but I do have pictures from Apogee of them preparring 4 pilots for Vipers and they definitly are not racecar driver figures...this is not to say that both types were not used...just to say that Race car drivers were not used exclusively. The picture everyone keeps referencing is one of the earliest hero models (I believe) and as a result could be different then the ones made later for the show.

Well the Apogee worker who came to Icons to supply us with a casting from the original molds,
and gave us photos told us the figures were from Racecars, not Pilot figures.

I don't think you can get any better confirmation other than
someone who actually worked on the original show Models. :)

The generational shrinkage of the ship makes sence.
I havn't looked into mine yet.
How much of the pilot did you have to cut off? More then how much the viper pilot is cut off?
Did you make a face mask for it? Jesse told me they did have one.
