Chirrut Imwe staff

Hey guys, I just watched Rogue One tonight and I love Chirrut Imwe.

I want to start a build of his staff that he has from the movie. I'm planning on making the staff into separate parts on my lathe.
Does anyone have any good reference images?

Here's one (source):

I just finished building a staff replica that I'm selling on my Etsy shop, and here are the most helpful reference photos I've come across.

GreenCircleCube, I believe the section in the middle would also be lathe-able as well. I modeled both those pieces in 3d and printed them on my 3d printer. I sculpted the rest - the stick part, and then I silicone molded the whole thing in two parts and did resin casts. Turned out pretty nice, but they wouldn't let me take it into the theater. :D

In the dark when Baze follows chirrut after Jyn follows Cassian and bhodi when Cassian has his weapon in sniper configuration...

Trying to explain without spoilers...

I don't think they were real lights. It looked done in post and I kinda thought it was dumb and un needed... It didn't cast light to help anyone see (even though he's blind)

It more made a big crosshair to aim at in the dark for enemies lol.

I noticed the top section catching some strong reflection from the sun at one point, but I don't recall it being illuminated otherwise.

According to the visual guide, the top part is in fact a lamp. As for why he has a lamp when he's blind, apparently it's there as a "symbolic source of inner illumination." I have to agree with OldKen, in that I also think that the lights were added in post, judging by how they looked on screen.

Do you guys think if I can find a similar looking branch/root/stick in the wild and use it as the wooden staff portion rather than sculpting it? I'd like to use this staff somewhat practically like use it on a hike, so I'd like this to be durable.

Also I've seen aluminum turned on a wood lathe before, I just don't know what grade aluminum it is. Does anybody have any idea? (main difference between wood and metal lathes are wood lathes have higher rpms than metal so the metal should be soft enough that can be turned with no problems on a wood lathe at high rpms).
