China Lake 40mm Pump-Action Grenade Launcher

Thanks! Trigger works as with my original sketch, but I've finally put in a working safety switch that wasn't in the sketch at all. Stock will be wood, but I'll also be making a sawed-off version just for fun, not sure if one was ever implemented in real life.

For progress, got the said safety switch on, dust cover, action bar lock (for the real one, but not working in my replica), and sights.

Amazing achievement.

The piece is supremely impressive just from physical accuracy, but your ability to make it functional takes it over the top! This is an absolutely top notch brilliant build.

Can't wait to see the rest of it coming together, keep up the excellent work!

Thanks! Pieces are cut mostly with a jigsaw, that is to say flat pieces. I glue several pieces together to make polygonal shapes or make laminates top get a sizable chunk of plastic that I can sculpt with a grinder or by hand with really sharp chisels. The edges are carefully sanded down with a sanding block or angle grinder with a sheet of sand paper on it which makes for cleaner work. If I had a CNC mill at my disposal, I'd likely make a real one. Though I wouldn't have any money left to buy HE rounds with. :p

WOOD!

Looks fantastic. By the color of the wood I'm assuming it's custom made and not modded from a pre-existing stock?

Yup. I work with planks for gun stocks; makes it easier than wrestling with a solid hunk of wood. If you're careful with grain orientation and wood selection you won't notice the layers after it's been stained. This is what it looked like before cleanup:

that stock looks sweet. wonder what it will look like sprayed and weathered ? how much time do you think you've spent on this all together?

Thanks! Not a fan of weathered guns myself, and besides, I'm building it for a SEALs Vietnam loadout from when they were used and back then they were literally straight off the R&D department with the freshest coat of paint. I started drafting the sketch back in May I think, but the work's been on-off since so I'd say a solid couple months of actual labor.

Holy Moly, everytime I look at this it just blows me away, you have done an amazing job from design to fabrication, especially with the tools you are using. AMAZING !

looks real for such a rare piece.

it kind of looks familiar. is this the same gun thats a item in the zombie mode of black ops?

Thanks!
I don't play COD myself, but I do believe it was in Black Ops under the same name. It's also in Fallout 3: New Vegas.
