Chewbacca mk 3 mask build. Warning...tons of pictures. RE-LINKED Images to Imjur

Re: Chewbacca mk 3 mask build. Warning...tons of pictures.

Man, this looks like one big pain in the ass to make!:lol

I am curious though, how does the lip mech fit to the silicone skin?

Re: Chewbacca mk 3 mask build. Warning...tons of pictures.

Lol thanks

The snarl mech pieces are first glued behind the lip with silicone, then a small piece of power mesh is glued over the top for added strength whilst maintaining movement. Again glued with silicone.

Hope that helps

That movement you've managed to get is simply awesome.

It looks more "real" than ep 3 or 7 imho.

You really should make a kit...

Great work on this! And I've seen all of your chewy build threads!

That's, like, completely freaking awesome!

Wow that the first I've really seen anyone complain about EP7 Chewie. When it was first seen people said it looked near perfect.

Re: Chewbacca mk 3 mask build. Warning...tons of pictures.

This is terrific! I've seen other Chewies before, but not the whole process all the way through. So many different techniques and disciplines that go into this. I thought I was impressed enough, then I see you're doing it essentially one-handed. Very impressed. I'm curious what you know of the real costumes and how close your methods are to what was done on them.

Re: Chewbacca mk 3 mask build. Warning...tons of pictures.

Thank you for the kind words.
It took about six months research and a ton of lateral thinking.
My methods are close, but the suit was a knitted piece with yak hair added. Whereas mine is made from a mesh and the hair is latch hooked into it.
National fiber technology or nft as its commonly known was used for the prequal wookies including chewbacca.

There is a new documentary that comes with the blu Ray of the force awakens that has a fair bit of info on the episode seven chewbacca. Mat pfingsten (probably spelt wrong...sorry) has tons of info uploaded to the rebel legion and in my mind his research and time spent sharing information was invaluable in my quest to make chewbacca. I also learned how to edit in Final Cut Pro X to put together versions of the original trilogy with just chewbacca in the scenes.

But also on top of that this was the fourth attempt at making a mask.
Hopefully I have done one of my passions a respectable version. But hopefully one day I
Will see Stuart freebourns original casts. Well that's my dream anyway.

Thanks again

I was just reading about fake hair (crepe wool) in regards to creating fake Star Trek style sideburns...

You should upload your Chewie only version of Star Wars to YouTube. :)
