Celebrity jerks?

Just came across this thread and wanted to add my experiences..

Nicest

Dave Prowse. I approached his table a few months after one of his hip replacements and asked him how he felt. He talked about the surgery and how he was looking forward to getting the other one done as soon as he was able to. I asked him about the UK Metal band that he was managing at the time, Losing Sun, I believe it was called. His face lit up and went on about it somewhat excitedly. I said I would love to hear some of their stuff sometime. He asked for my address and said he would mail me their promo CD when he got back to England. I thought 'Yeah, sure you will.' but gave it to him. Several months later, I received a package in the mail from him containing the CD and a short note that he hopes I enjoy the CD. I checked the date it was mailed and it was shortly after he returned, but took almost two months to arrive from the UK via media mail.

Kane Hodder. The guy often attends local shows. He seems to be a quiet person, but very easy to talk to and down to earth. After one of the shows, he asked if there was a good local Mexican restaurant he could stop at after the con as he was staying in town for another day. I gave him the name of the one and he asked if they served tequila? I said I dont know and he said dont tell him that I'm a teetotaler. I said no, just beer was my preferred drink. He asked if I wanted to go with him and I politely turned him down in front of my wife. She still never lets me live that down to this day.

Noel Neil (Lois Lane from the George Reeve Superman tv show). Met her a few years ago and told her how much I loved that show when I was younger. She smiled warmly and kept saying 'thank you'. She genuinely seems happy to be remembered.

Peter Mayhew. I've seen him on both sides of the fence here. My interaction with him was early in the morning and I stood talking with him about 15 minutes and found him to be extremely pleasant to talk to. I turned around and the line was about 12 people deep, but he wasn't rushing me to get to the next person.

Carl Palmer. (drummer with Emerson, Lake & Palmer and ASIA). Met him at a meet and greet along with Geoff Downes of Asia. Both guys were very generous with their time and stood around talking about whatever we wanted to, signed anything and everything we had and posed for pictures. Carl was just a fountain of knowledge and several drummers that came to see him were asking him questions on technique that he answered in depth. Very personable guys.

Julie Newmar. Met her at a convention a few years ago. She has a neuro muscular condition now that can effect her movement at times, but as she sat on her table, I stopped and talked with her for about 15 minutes and found her to be just a lovely person. She gladly posed with me for a photo and one of the guys I know that is an artist had done a pencil sketch of her as Catwoman. As she walked around and saw that piece, she loved it and signed the original right there for him.

I've really had no 'bad' experiences yet. Though Adam West's business manager kind of keeps people moving by him so quickly that you dont really have to time to stop and just spend a few minutes talking with him as it just speaking to him will wear him out. It feel like just part of an assembly line and somewhat impersonal.

I'd always had a goal to meet Kane Hodder one day and shake his hand...for scaring the **** outta me when I was growing up. Now I couldn't be happier watching him onscreen.
He will always be my #1 Jason. His silent kills are the most brutal. Hatchet is the next best thing. I have yet to attend any conventions but someday I'll have the time set aside to have good/bad stories to talk about.

It does seem sometimes dispite the job as an actor, they are human, and bring emotions to work. No real excuse, just no real game plan set aside from the get-go at public meetings.
In my opinion, when you see a celebrity they do not have to tend to the public, when in not on the job. I think it's rude to bad form to rush someone especially when they are with their family or eating.
I guess that sets aside the real professions from the ones that get paid too much to show their face to fans.

I was always under the impression that it sounded just like it was spelled..

I'd imagine that most people would get her first name wrong.

I've heard her say it before. It sounds more like "Yovovich", the J is supposed to be a "Y" sound instead.

My most memorable was....Well, I don't want to mention any names, but it rhymes with...Yngwie Malmsteen.

It involved him throwing a full-on b***h-fit tantrum because his runners couldn't find Swedish cigarettes in the middle of Orange County, California, and an innocent female walking in on said "celebrity" putting on a girdle in the unlocked bathroom that was doubling as a makeshift dressing room and the hilarity that ensued. :lol

Good times. ;)

I hear Yngwie is involved in all kinds of dou-che-baggery.

I'm pretty sure this says it all...

i think there are always going to be alot of celeb jerks around, some people just dont get or want to get the whole icon thing. I think Christian Bale for example has had a lot of bad press mainly for the terminator outburst, but he knows that paps and autograph hunters go with the territory and as long as they dont get in his way and follow him round all day he is a really nice pleasant guy he was super nice when i met him signed my two photos gave me a smile and called me a ' true englishmen' which i thought was nice.

on the flipside two people i have heard are notorious jerks are Mr.T and Sean Connery... apparently Connerys auto is the most expensive Bond auto and its because he doesnt like to give autos at all....miserable :rolleyes

other celebs i have met that were great people were David Carradine and Gary Oldman , Oldman has a fantastic spark and sense of humour i have alot of time for him and his work.

Ok, so I have yet to meet her in person but I speak to her a fair bit via FB , and she has always come across as very friendly: Erin Gray.

But then it helps that she thinks there is a very strong chance we are related. :eek:lol

I can confirm that Ms. Gray is an absolutley LOVELY person in real life. She is very friendly and very warm. She really takes her time to engage with people and listen to them. She was clearly touched when I told her that Wilma was one of my first female rolemodels as a child and we also had a girly moment where she played with my braid when we were posing for a photo. :D

Bummer for you. No dating allowed at family reunions. ;)

She is the sweetest person I have ever met, and has a smile that can light up a room. I met her at a very poorly planned, one-time ST convention in Calgary many years ago. There weren't too many people there so I was able to talk to her for about 30 minutes, and she was extremely nice.

Her and Jeremy Bulloch rate as the nicest people/celebrities I've ever met.

Ok, then make ever casher at the store, act like they mean it when (or if they say) "have a nice day". Make every greater at Wal*mart act like they are not staring death in the face, and say, Hi with a smile. Make ev ereyone, act the way they are supposed to act to get their pay check.

It's really sad, but showing up for a job, is often all that's required anymore. Niceness cost extra, I guess.

I don't know anyone who goes to the grocery store simply to meet the cashier.

Well, not unless she's really cute :)

From I can tell I must be the only one who met Erin Gray on a bad day.

It was 5 or 6 years ago at Wonderfest, and she wasn't mean at all, but she made no attempt to speak with me, and her "handler" did all the talking. After saying a bit about Buck Rogers and mentioning her guest turn on the TV series Starman I took the hint and said no more. Paid for my photo and left.

As I said she was not mean, and she very well might have not been feeling good that day.

I'd be a LOT more tolerant of that kind of "cold shoulder" behavior than someone actively being rude or coming across as pissed at the fans (rather than, for example, at their agent who just said "Sorry, I can't find you anything for the next three months." or whatever).

He was at ECCC in March and was absolutely HORRID to the volunteer who was working as his handler. He decided that it was better to call her an expletive beginning with 't' rather than her name and was so mean to her that she broke down in tears.

He also walked out on his panel on Sunday because the crowd wasn't big enough for his liking. Guess he failed to take into account the massive amount of room his unwarranted ego required. :angry

Well, despite this post, my girlfriend and I, did go see Nick Brandon last weekend. He was...... Well.......

When we got to the comic book shop he was signing at. (it was his second year there, so I though it might be good sign he would be ok, since they did invite him back.) We paid to get a picture with him, that he would then sign. Well, I got sick, and went and laid down, for something like 2 or 3 hours. (Hey it happens, to the best of us, no bigy) And that left us waiting... and waiting.... and waiting. Then he came back, and we all lined up again. When we got up to him, he was very, nice, to us (my girlfriend and I) Smiled, took the picture with us, talked a little, but not a lot. (that's ok, my girl, and I are REALLY shy/awkward, so we just kind of stood there, smiling like idiots, and could barely speak anyway. ) We got out of the way, wall we waited for the picture to print, and him to sign it. When we went up the second time to get our picture, he was nice then too, and remembered my name. (forgot my girls name though. and he said she had the same name as his girlfriend. )

So, my dealing with him were quite nice.

However, he was..... Um..... talking a little different to some folks in line. for some he was even friendlier, and did the "snoopy dance" (it's a buffy thing), for others, he was more quite then he was with us, and then where a few (mostly ladies) he was quite "off color" with. One girl was talking to him, and he said out loud in a crowned room, "I would rather you gave me a ............." (exploitive deleted, lets just say a very, very, friendly handshake.) witch for a guy with a girlfriend, talking to a girl there with her boy friend, in a room with little kids in it, that might not have been so great. And it would have been bad enough if he had just said it once, but he kind of went on about it a bit, with her, here group, and his handlers. (not like for hours, but it did go on for a few minutes, in a room with a good number of kids in it.)

Anywho. He seams like a nice enough guy to me, just a maybe a little socially challenged, or awkward, or um, I don't know, needing for someone to rain him in a bit, at times.

Mr. T works out at my gym in LA and he couldn't be nicer or more friendlier to everyone in the place. One time a mother was picking her kid up from the babysitting area and literally ran into him - she was horrified when she saw who it was, but he just laughed, then bent down and played with her daughter for a minute - was really sweet and made me like him even more.

That said - anyone and everyone can have an off day, but he seemed like a genuine guy.

On another note, see this?
