Celebrity jerks?

Just met Malcolm McDowell and he was great.
They say you shouldn't meet your heroes as they might not always live up to expectations, but this was the exact opposite. Warm, friendly and a great sense of humour to boot.
Christiane Kubrick is also a lovely lady to meet.

I was an extra in the Disney movie "Iron Will". The directer was Charles Haid (Andy Renko from "Hill Street Blues"). He was an ass-and-a-half.

And David Ogden Stiers was almost exactly like Charles Emerson Winchester. Just as big a jerk.

McKenzie Astin (the star- Sean Astin's brother) was nice, though.

I haven't met very many celebrities, just a couple. And they were all pleasent experiences.

James Best (Rosco P. Coltrane from Dukes of Hazzard). I was working at a restaurant in Mount Airy NC. We were having a celebration to Andy Griffith (As we also call Mount Airy Mayberry, since it is Mr. Griffith's hometown). Mr. Best played a character on the Andy Griffith Show though I can't recall the character's name, and he had come into the restaurant, Nice man, signed for everyone, ate a great meal!

Plain White T's. One of my favorite bands. As a matter of fact i would say they were my #1 favorite. Met Tim Lopez (Lead Guitar) and Tom Higgenson (Guitar/Vocals) july of 2009 they were both nice, Tim even posed in a picture with me. Tom, was nice also, we all talked for a few minutes. Tom is actually shorter than I had imagined, but that wasn't a problem LOL. Anyways I met Tim again in February of this year, as well as Mike Retondo (Bass). Tim either remembered me or acted like he did as we spoke for several minutes while the Security guy glared at me like "You're taking up these ladies time with Tim you @$$". Both Mike and Tim were nice enough to give me autographs.

I hope to meet more celebs in the future!

Ahh the Plain White T's. I met those lads back in the day many moons ago when they played out here in Oakland. I was a peripheral player in the east bay music scene back then, I knew The Matches, who were on Epitaph records, they put on their own shows and the T's played one week. After the show we were racing down Telegraph avenue for late nite pizza at Blondies. Nice dudes!

Hehe and what about Tim? Does he not have a sense of humor or what? lol

I met The Great Khali in my dry cleaners. He was a very nice guy. He was very patient with my little brother, who kept yelling at the top of his lungs to my mother: "mom that man is HUGE!" My brother was like 2 ft. 1 in. looking at a guy who's like 7ft. 1 in. and he was 3 at the time, so it was understandable for him to be awestruck.

Back when he was married to Mary Steenburgen they had a house in Ojai, California. A friend of mine whose parents also lived in Ojai said he ran into Malcolm and/or Malcolm and Mary quite often, and said they were both very nice, down to earth people.

I didn't know who you were talking about until I looked the guy up. He could be, like, the Indian Rondo Hatton!

A couple years ago me and a friend were at a Horror convention where we met Betsy Palmer ( the killer Mrs. Vorhees from the original Friday the 13th Movie).

She was giving a talk in the convention hall, and after she was done she went off the side of the stage to the corner of the room to collect her things before she left. A few fans took the opportunity to go up and get pictures and autographs. Me and my friend noticed this as the crowd died down and went to try and get a picture with her, taking our place at the back of the group that had formed around her. Every single person insisted on talking to her for about 10 minutes so we had to wait awhile.

Finally came our turn. Someone next to her, possibly and handler or one of the convention workers was trying to quickly usher her out of there and said in a serious tone "Cmon, we have to go!". She noticed us, turned to him and said "Hold on, these boys have been waiting." She patiently waited (though the guy looked pretty annoyed) as we got our cameras out and took a few photos. And then afterwards she pulled us in for a hug. Couldn't have been nicer or warmer.

Met Sam Huntington this year at Motor City Comic Con and he was really cool and very personable. Not only did he take the time to talk with us after his panel was over but every time we walked by his booth he would call us over for a high five. He even remembered who we were by name the next day which was really cool.

I have a feeling that no words can describe the regret that Husker is feeling at this point about posting that little story about Jake Lloyd. What an explosion!

I feel for ya, Husker. Looks like you dun goofed :lol

I was an Angels and Kings in Chicago and noticed some dudes drinking PBR. I went over started chatting about how in the hell they snuck PBR in and turns out it was the Plain White T's. They were really really cool and down to earth. In fact I didnt realize it was them until Pete Wentz mentioned it to us.

lol. No worries, I know a lot of people don't like me on here, and that is cool. If I upset them, I'm sorry. And if they think what I did was wrong, they have every right to think that.

However, as I said, I've met Jake more than a handful of times now over many years, and my opinion of him as a complete tool, and jerk, has almost nothing to do with Episode I (I blame george for that. Not even Jar Jar holds the blame for that). My dislike for him, and my eventual inappropriate behavior, (yet hilarious if you'd been there, when he recognized us), are a long time feud i've had with someone I consider one of the biggest celebrity jerks in the world.

Could I have caught him on a bad day? Sure. But if I did, I must have caught him on a bad day every single time I met him. That's a pretty rare possibility.

Again though, I never claimed I was being mature. The first time I met him I was still in High school. And no, being older now, I probably wouldn't have acted the same. But no matter how disgusted some of you are with me, it still makes me smile. I've met so many celebs at this point, and so few have been jerks that he will always stand out to me.

But really.. yeah.. I was a bit shocked at how MANY of you had to try and rip me a new one about this.. when it wasn't even me who did it, but my friend. I just laughed and thought it was hilarious!

especially since some of you were making comments about people being jerks who were probably suffering from chronic pain and diseases.. :/

But yeah, it would be nice if this thread went back to more celebrity jerk stories and less "Lets jump Husker"!

:cry:love:angel:cool

The only star I saw behave in a poor way was Lou Ferigno. He was signing stuff for the Incredible Hulk and was just packing up to leave. A family that apparently came late to the convention came up to about 15 feet away from the table he was standing at. The father pushed the little boy forward who was clutching an "Incredible Hulk" poster and he asked if Lou would sign it. Lou turned to the kid, shook his head, crossing his hands back and forth in front of him and waved the kid off. You could see the kid just crushed by it.

'Packing up' and 'late' tells me Lou had already spent the entire day working, it was over now, and the family had obviously not made him a priority on their list. At some point, he has to manage the time he has left on earth, and it's almost impossible for people who want something to understand and not think a celebrity is a jerk for not giving it to them. Time is the most precious commodity. You can never get it back.
Of course, that's just my opinion.

Kinda dumb to blame the quality of Phantom Menace on a nine year old kid in any case. He wouldn't be the one I was pointing at if we had to blame just one person.

I was at a con in Tennessee and a local group wanted to present an honor to Jake during his Q&A. They were refused. That didn't go over very well.

Shared an escalator with Kevin Sorbo for a minute at DC '08. It was pretty funny. I wasn't paying attention at all to who got on the escalator in front of me and the wife and all of a sudden he turned around and made some comment about how crazy the convention was. Dude is really big btw. In any case my wife's eyes just about popped out of her head after we got off the escalator, turns out she's a big Hercules/Xena fan. :lol He seemed pretty cool, for what it was.

Oh yeah he's pretty cool. I met him as a exhibitor on FedCon germany in the hotel early in the morning, while I guess finished an interview, I greeted him with "Good morning, Kevin." and we shook hands.

Oh and while mentioning Erin Gray:
I and my best buddy were on another FedCon, where she and Gil Gerard appeared as guest stars… and to our shame, we didn't recognized her at first (D'oh!!!!). She was walking down the stairs, smiling at us and we smiled back like two dumbasses. I asked Ralf: "Dude, do you know her…?" "Ehh, she somewhat familiar to me, but keep smiling…" You can guess, how embarassing the realization afterwards was for us.

And I remembered fondly about an encounter, that made me also very sad. I met Richard Biggs on the FedCon before he died of an heart attack. Nice guy, shook his hand, chatted a while.

I've encountered lots of celebrities and "celebrities" over the years. Some of my standouts:

Mark Hammill - ran into him at a hobby store in LA. The place was almost empty and we chatted about model kits for about 30 minutes. This was around the time that Polar Lights was reissuing the Aurora monster kits. He told me that he bought a guys collection of original Aurora kits and that his wife got pissed at him when she found out. We talked about voice acting and he told me that he used to call his mother with the Joker voice. A great conversation.

Gary Lockwood - me and a buddy were at SDCC last year and recognized him sitting at a table on the main floor, giving autographs. He was taking a break, just standing by the booth, so we approached him. What a blast! We ended up talking for over an hour. What amazing stories - that guy doesn't hold back! He had the funniest stories about other celebrities at the con - not all of them favorable.

Frank Gorshin - spent an entire day in a recording studios with him. What an amazing guy! He could still do spot on impersonations. Incredible stories. I gave him a tour of our studio and he talked to everyone and happily signed autographs.

Mick Jagger - I was having dinner at a small restaurant in Laguna Beach when Jagger walked in with a small entourage. He stood right behind my wife's chair and we heard the owner tell him that he couldn't seat such a large party right away. He politely said he understood and turned to leave. I looked at him with a "I'm sorry" expression and he said "Don't worry, mate, we'll find dinner somewhere."

George Lucas - I was at an awards dinner that he attended. During the cocktail hour, I saw him standing at a table alone. I walked up and introduced myself and we had a very nice, 10 minute conversation.

Bruce Willis - I was standing at a urinal in the men's room at the Luxor hotel when I a guy walked up to the urinal next to me, loudly sighed and said, "Oh yeah . . . " I turned to look and noticed it was Willis. He looked at me and said, "Nothing like a good ****."

Well, it's rude to the rest of the audience and takes time away from the stated purpose of the activity--Questions and Answers. No one is there to see Local Group X fawn.

Very true, but the gracious way to handle this would be to ask that person to see someone after the Q&A.
