I was thinking about making a Mark 42. I just can't decide between Cardboard or foam. I was thinking about making a cardboard suit and then sealing it with diluted glue just like foam armor. No resin. Which should I do Foam Or Cardboard. (Cardboard will save a lot of money.

Your suit looks amazing! Can someone explain to me how to use either foam or cardboard and pepakura? I've always just done it on paper which takes forever.. Is cardboard faster? It also seems to come out accurately too.

Re: Cardboard Specialist: Iron Man Skill Builds Mk 42 Top Half Paint Pics!

Its been a while since I've been here to update anything, been so busy wilth custom stuff, school and getting ready for comicon in San Diego next month.... "But here's some old pics of the MK 42 foam that was finished a few weeks ago. and a sneek peek at a ull fiberglass 42 in the making!....Im also working hard on alot of other stuff and starting a small custom prop making company that does a lot of things from props to costumes to birthdays ect,....enjoy!:D

hey Delray, did you still only use plast-dip spray can and then color for the mark 42 foam version? how did you get it to look less of the foam look? your mark 6 foam you can see it right away, but not the mark 42. Did you just added more plasti-dip till it looks solid?

If you use cardboard only you won't really be satisfied with the end result. You have to go all the way to get what you like. I suggest a EVA first its not that expensive $18.99 a roll at pep boys and you only need one roll, seal it with PVA / then plastidip $6.00 per can 3 needed. Then paint but use automotive vinyl paint its flexable. for about $50-60 total you can have a cool looking suit.
Dang, that's really good.
Thanks Bro!
amazing work buddy amazing
Ditto streetsoul I hope you finish that heartbreaker it looks good!

Just like I mentioned to zirak start with a test project and go from there the more you build the better you get!
Every time I look at those pictures makes me want to build a mark 42 again. . .
Don't you have a Iron Legion by now? "Lol..... I know Bro I see so many things I wanna make and either don't have time or cant do it fast enough!

Yeah Bro, No glue to seal on the Mk 6 just 5-6 smooth coats of Plasti-dip flexible primer then paint. I tried a different method from here (RPF eva builders) and didn't like the results with the 42. Should have followed my original steps like before.

ok I just want to make sure...so your steps for foam that you was satisfied with was, glue to seal/plasti-dip/then flexible primer/last would be paint

Yeah, but there's so many issues I have with foam. I absolutely have no idea how to make angles with foam. I live in Canada and from what i've seen 1 can of Plasti-dip is $16. Would I only need 1 roll of foam for a whole suit?? I have no experience with foam so idk how to make the little tiny pieces that are really confusing. Also what do you mean by not satisfied with end result? How would my suit look if i used cardboard?

No PVA just plasti-dip in even smooth coats 5-6 light to medium. test on a piece to see a result.

Yes one roll is all you need. Ans as for the cardboard suit .I mean fiberglass. glassmat bondo, the whole works! if you just seal and paint the cardboard by itself you wont like the result. You can also use Smoothcast products on cardboard also to get a smooth finish, but it gets expensive $$$.

This may already have been covered, either in this thread or another; but what kind of cardboard is being used here?
Regular corrogated behind the store cardboard boxes. Go back through my thread and give th pieces a look....

Thanks a bunch :thumbsup but do you use primer on the foam after doing plasti-dip? just trying to find a final solution without wasting money. Thanks again for all the info

Okay and also, how to do cut angles in foam??? I've decided to make a cardboard suit at first, then a foam one if i don't like the results of it. Im sorry im such a noob to this stuff, but how do i quote someones message?

you can use scissors and try to get a grip on the edge of the foam and start cutting at an angle or use a wood burning tool that has a sharp or knife like on the top. it's what I do :) search it so you can see what im talking about.

Is there any other ways?? This is the only issue keeping me away from building with foam!
