Hi BlackDynamo, just wanted to say welcome back. I saw your resin/Pep build on YouTube, it is tight! With your skills, I'm sure that whichever technique you choose will be super clean. I'm trying to decide the same thing for my foam war machine, how to finish it now. I thinking plastidip mainly, but I'm going to play with the plastic coating technique Xrobots showed us on the heavy wear areas (hands, helmet, boots). Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Thanks, Han Polo. In the Immortal words of Tony Stark "Its Good To Be Back! I look forward to sharing my ideas and learning from all of the great foam builders here. We'll see how it goes? Keep Building!....:cool

Hey Blackdynamo, your skill is immense! Your mark VI was Incredible, and this one looks set to be awesome too. With regards to what to do with it, when you've finished, take some pieces of foam and try out different things, and see what works for you - I'm sure whatever you do, you will make it look the best it can be!
One question though - did you freehand, or did you use files? If you used files - Which ones?
Good luck with whatever you choose to do with it, and I can't wait to see the results! :)

Re: Try To Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...

Looks good - nice to see a foam build that neat and sharp.
I'm new to foam building so I will ask be questions from you and others as i try to get a look i desire but with flexability. I try to do as best as i can with details stepping the foam and cutting to crease and curve areas that need it. I thought I'd never say this but I'm Looking forward to more foam building the suits are lighter,easier and faster to do. I will be finished soon! only three weeks in my spare time. I know it will be faster to paint...Thanks....Keep building!....

Thanks, MattCorneIM I appreciate you like my armorIm excited to see this one because I taylored it just right for my 5'8'' frame....:loveI have used the old templates i have drawn and and Robos and STEALTH'S foam files. If you look a my pieces you can tell which ones are custom..But If you cant tell which here they are?
Chest=Stealth/Robo Foam file tweaked when built.
Back=Stealth/Robo tweaked
Shoulderbell=Custom
Bicep= Stealth/Robo Foam tweaked when built
Abs and Cod=Stealth/Robo
Thighs=Custom
Forearm Stealth/Robo tweaked
Shins= Custom
the rest we'll see?
When I say tweaked I mean cut and fitted different or made just a little different from the original file with subtle changes and things added.... I will see what I want to do once i'm done. I'm leaning toward a Smoothcast plastic coat finish just to take the foam look away. But who knows? Keep Building!....

Looks great man, just one question. Why does Disney have your old mark 6?

A guy named Derrick Thompson bought it, he's a producer of the disney cartoon show phineas and ferb. He has it set up in his office there.:thumbsup

Re: Try To Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...

Re: Try To Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...

How'd I miss this one?! Looking really nice man very clean work there. As I will be attempting them soon and I have a few ways up my sleeve. How did you make your inner elbow coverings on the old suit? Not sure what to call them :p

Re: Try To Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...

Its still there Stef, but since the old site had problems and changed. I wasn't able to access it with my old password. Any Ideas? How can get my thread back?

Re: Try To Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...

I'm almost ready to paint. Just have a few more modifications on the suit and have to finish both helmets the cardboard one and the foam. Also make the gloves, shoes and neck piece. I'm gonna go a shade darker on the Red this time and the gray biceps...This one will have battle damage or wear to it to look more realistic! I used some tricks to keep this suit close to my other one. The boots are longer to create a more slim Iron Man. The files that are out make the boots to short. and the knee shield to narrow, so when bigger guy's make them look funny cause they don't stretch them! that's a small tip for builders and why I custom build mine... the slimmer the suit the better it looks an more like the movie version. And of course all exposed areas also leave nothing uncovered. It should be fun just a few more days! Keep Building!....

Best foam build ever ... how will the coating hold when you where the suit ? have you tried it ?

Loving this build
Thanks it coming along Nicely!

I did a test with docholiday's heating method I just heated til the foam has a sheen or dark gloss to it and used plastidip to coat, No pva or modgepodge needed and it works fine! no wrinkles and no cracks... Heat makes the foam expand closing the pores, its simple from there. The only thing is the glue holding the pieces gets soft so be careful!.. I plan on strengthening the inside in certain places to hold the shape better in some areas....Keepbuilding !:thumbsup

Re: Iron Man Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...(Foam Helmet)

"Foam Helmet!".... I'm not a big fan of the foam helmet but it looks pretty good! I will see how it looks once painted? I cut most of the back to make it more round and to fit my small head. It looks good with the suit because its not gigantic like some helmets you see! I think its almost too perfect for foam and proportioned to fit the suit well....Keep Building....:thumbsup

Re: Iron Man Skill Build Foam Mk 6 with Detail...(Painted Torso and Biceps)

Small update Here's the top half. Not too happy with the foam, but it is foam...? but looks good for now. I Still have a lot to do. started on the bottom half today and should have another update in a couple of days!....Keep Building! :behave
