Cardboard ROBOCOP armour build

thanks, i had always wanted to build an endo so i was well pleased with myself when i finally finished it. It now lives on the wall with all my airsoft guns (there is now a space next to him for robo when its done :) )?

internal leg holster, now that is an interesting idea. and as far as im aware never been done before. But something like that would have had to have been planned from the beginning so that the legs could be built to accomodate it (if it would even work), to try and bodge it into a leg with no space for it at this stage would be next to impossible...

oh by the way. The elbow joints are in, as are the knees :) just the ankles to go then its time to play with straps, belts velcro, foam and magnets |)

Elbow hinges are now installed, as are knees and ankles. The legs are now complete as one piece from hip to toe and are massive!

I still havent got around to building the left piston...

So i tried the legs on and there is a slight problem, having the attchment to my belt at the top of each thigh (hip area) severly restricts movement, im hoping just lowering the attachment point about 6 inches down the inside of the thigh will fix this, if not ive gotta thick up some other way to keep my "robo trousers" up

the next thing on my "to do" list is to make attachments for the arms and torso now, so im gonna have a play with that so i can make a test fitting video.

ciao for now

This is amazing! :eek My jaw literally dropped!! I am astounded by your workmanship and inspired as I am using Peps, you are doing this all with no pep support!
I was thinking about the thigh mounted internal holster and think it is similar to my calf issue for my MK3 Iron Man build. I want to have all the calf dongles and flaps open and thought to build a box within the calf to house a "mechanized" back drop so that when it opens you'd see more than just my skinny ankles LOL!
I looked at alot of IM Mk3 pics and realize Tony Stark would have to be anorexically thin or the suit would have to be much bulkier to accomodate all the hardware and gadgets. As we all know the comic armor was not truly a mechanical exo-suit like in the movie. People just wouldnt get the whole forcefield thing.
Back to your project, Robo-Cop being a cyborg had nothing but machinery there in the leg and you'd be filling all that space with your thigh, so you'd have to either tweek the dimensions a Lottle and bulk up the outer sweep of the thigh piece and maybe build a thinner gun in width...say 1/3 thinned? I could be done, but making the mechanism heavy and durable enough would be the real trick as with the helmet on and gauntlets youd fumble and jiggle the mech alot as well... I am solving mine by probably molding silicon or gluing parts to a sleeve or sock/leggin to wear underneath.. You could just mould a holster that stays in the "Out/Open" position so you dont have to hold the gun all day?
By the way, can I ask what adhesive you are using? I am using Elmers white glue and Elmers Glue All and it works great on the peps. I have to ask if youre going to glass this or mold it into plastics/resin? Forgive me if you addressed this question already! I read your whole thread but may have missed that! Very exciting stuff and very very one of a kind! Can't wait for more!!!

Hi

Agree that given the dimensions of both robocop and ironman suits there is no room for anything inside besides the wearer UNLESS you tweak the dimensions. But it would be as simple as making the thigh wider, as the suit would then be out of proportion, the waist would need to be expanded, both calfs made wider, chest made wider. and then you run the risk of making your suit look "fat" Maybe it can be done.... But i agree that it would be very fiddely trying to press a button (where the hell would tht go?) to open the leg and then take out the gun all the while wearing a massive suit, a helmet with restricted vision and bulky gloves.

im too impatient to use pep files, and i like building from scratch, thats way what i build is 100% one of a kind. as i am impatient white glue would not work for me, so a hot glue gun is what i use as all i have to do is wait 15 seconds for the glue to cool and its done :)

tomorrow im going to hopefully have all the straps etc done.

do you have a build thread for your ironman?

Yes I do have a build in progress, thank you for asking! I am doing a pep Mk3 Iron Man and just got the supplies and heat gun to do the War Machine in foam! Here is the thread for the mk3, it is slow going. As you said Peps are time consuming.

I have had great success with the Elmers glue and an old blow dryer! It is almost as fast as the hot glue and not near as dangerous to my fingers LOL!

I think that you can get magnetic switches on line and all you'd have to do is glue a magnet into a finger on each hand then hide the switch under the armor. I believe they are called Bistable magnetic switches I plan on mounting mine at various places on the armor, like under the hip disks, on the right might open the visor, the left open my flaps ect

Meathead i do agree that it would have beeen designed into th' costume prior ta th' build brah. Still that would increase th' cool factor considering that this is already a awesome sauce build brah.:cool:cool

Holy cow.

I wasn't expecting such detail when I opened this thread.

That's some amazing work - your endo in the background looks absolutely incredible!!!!

Thanks for all the positve replies! I too cant wait until its done (altho i am NOT looking forward to the expense of buying all the paint i will need!!!)

anyways...

update time!!!

I have torn off ALL the plastic attchments at the knees and ankles as they were all starting to break away. I knew they would and it was just a test fit anyway. I noticed that the glue just peeled straight off of the plastic, so i have drilled lots and lots and lost of holes in the plastic to give the glue something to grab onto.

I have also started on the undersuit. i have sew velcro on the shoulder area and attched the other side onto the back piece. also the back piece has velcro straps around the waist section.

The front and back also has four (soon to be 8 when i order more) very strong magnets on each half to hold them together. The plan is to velcro the back on, then just pop the front on.... and it works!

then its just a case of putting an arm half on and using the edge of a door or something to lean againt to pust it up my arm.

Im not going to use straps to keep the arms up (as i wont be abel to fasten them myself and being able to suit up unaided is an aspect of my suit i aim to keep) so instead i think that once i have built the hands, just wearing them will keep the arms from falling down. Unfortunatly i wont know for sure until i build them so well have to wait and see.

I have also attached velcro to the top of the thighs and with a tight belt around my waist they keep the legs up nicely.

Im gonna glue all the hinge attachments back on and reinforce everything then all thats left fitting wise is the codpiece (which is giving me grief) and buying a cheap pair of black shoes to go into the feet permanently.

i will then make a video.

stay tuned!

oh and before all the hinges were torn out i could resist trying it all on....

**** me its beautiful! (pardon my french!) no pics tho, gonna keep ypu in suspence until i do the video |)

Fantastic craftsmanship... I can't wait to see the finished suit (y)thumbsup(y)thumbsup

and if I were in your shoes, I would have cut my finger at least 100 times by now:facepalm

Meathead one of th' unspoken rules here is post pics or it did'na happen ( jk ) seriously pics illustrate what your tryin' ta explain cause I'm curious about your magnet placement. Also glad ta hear how ya fixed your hinge problem fingers crossed. Keep up th' good work brah.:cool:cool

yo yo yo!!!

Here are a couple of pics of the attachments:

This is a velcro strap on the inside of the thigh. It is glued on about 6 inches down, any higher and it severly restricts my leg movements. The part that is glued is also about 6 inches long and afte it was stuck down has also had cardboard glued ontop of it and hopefully it will hold!

and this is the back piece:

The velcro strap on each shoulder fastens it to my undersuit. The front is then simple attached by magnets (4 at present but want to install more). In the pic the magnets have been covered by a thin sheet of cardboard (thin grey rectangles near the velcro) to prevent the magnets pulling away from the piece.

So what else have I done? I have now reattached all of the joints, and as a result im down to my last glue stick... again (ordered more already:)) The legs have been reassembled and I have finally gotten round to building the other leg piston!

So, finally, the moment you have been eagerly waiting for (i hope...) the video of me wearing what I have built so far!

PLEASE NOTE

I intend to hold the arms up with no straps, instead i was hoping that just having the gloves on would keep them up, but as i havent made the gloves yet i needed an alternative for the purpose of the video... Batman gauntlets!

Cardboard Robocop Armour Test Fit - YouTube

As you can see it all fits and moves pretty well... all except for the cod piece, so when my glue gets here i will adjust it accordingly and also sew onto my undersuit velcro for the abdominal bands between the codpiece and torso.

Thats all for now!
