Treadwell,

No that's not the one, the one I was looking for showed the wires in the sockets. It was on pg. 323

Yeah, that was me. You can see the enlargment of the saber from that pic in one of my posts above.

while we're at it I'd love to see the Defined ANH vader thread from a few weeks back get archived too, we made some preaty decent discoveries there too.

yeah, DEFINITELY archive this and the ANH threads!!!

Hmmm, with the bubbles now almost conclusive used in the movie throughout, I need to get another set of bubbles from Gav!!!

OK guys, I remembered a great bit of source material the other day and I checked it out today. The local Mom & Pop video store here has a large cardboard standie of Darth Vader that was put out to promot the, then, pending release of the "Star Wars Special Edition" on Video. I remebered this standy had a good shot of his saber on it, but I figured it was a tour saber, since it looked a little different, I mean it had wire's going between the ports and all........Doow!

Well I went there today and sure enough the standie features the ESB saber we've all been pondering here for 100+ posts. The picture is VERY clear, the best I've seen so far. You could see the black and white wires going between the horizontal ports and the red wire in the vertical "B" port was there too though black. I finnaly figured out the reaason it looked black was because the picture was actually black & White and the red lights on Vaders chest box and belt boxes had been added back in.

OK you say: "so what's the big deal, we alreadfy know about the wires, so what?" Well on this particular pic of the saber the clamp detail was exceptionaly clear and nearly full size (due to the size of the Standie

) and .......Drum roll please.........................................................

It's a hexagonal nut, just like chip has on his CG 3-D model. The little circle in the middle is just the screw coming through the nut.

Of course the folks at the Video Shop wont sell the standie, there' movie buffs and collect that kind of stuff (trust me though there really is a nut on the side there). I'm gonna try and find a pic of the standie on the web and maybe look on e-bay (if you see one there please let mw know, oh and don't bid on it,I would really like one of these for my refrence). If all else fails I guess I could ask the owners if I could take some pictures of it.

MTFBWY!

Hey, is that the SE stand-up with the gold-colored background at the bottom? I've got one sitting in my closet!!! Okay, I'll dig it out.

I remember staring at that thing a while ago and thinking "that ain't a King Sol". I just assumed it was the Barbican or some other stunt saber.

Well done, Paul!!
Hmm... the only standie I've seen is the one where he's holding the Barbican saber.
If you can't find pics of it, just take a digicam to the shop and snap a few.

I'm still not sure exactly what the hex bolt with a screw would look like on its own. Does anyone have one, and can take a pic?
Or Chip, can you render that in 3D? Are the hex bolt and screw two separate things or something?

KL,

It is just an 8/32 nut with an 8/32 pan head flat screw that I used with wahers........I used the antique brass finish and not the btite brass.

Look at the shot of the 4 saber I posted, the ESB has the nut and screw on it. Or did you want the opposite side of the clamp?

Thanks, LordSandy, thanks, Chip.

Sorry to sound like an ignoramous, but I see the pictures, but just aren't sure what they would look like in a hardware store by themselves.
For example, is what I'm looking for a hex bolt which is like a washer (the "nut"?), plus a screw (this "pan head flat screw" thing?) that would go through the clamp, plus another stopper on the other side?

Lordsandy, is what you used in the saber shown in your pic correct then?
If so, seeing the assembly by itself in its separate bits would answer all my questions.

DarthMulch, it's been concluded that bubbles were used. The circuit board has so far only been seen on the Barbican (stunt) saber.

Damn....guess I'll have to do a Barbi saber then.

Thanks

Yeah that sounds like the one, if you can scan the saber for us that would be great!

KL, this was a standie made for the video release of the SW Trilogy Special Edition. It was sent to video stars for promaotion. It very different from the comecialy availble standies.

New question: any one think it looks like they stuck something in the holes left over from the MPP name plate rivets? There's a highlight where the hole would be. I would think you'd get a dark spot from a recesed hole and not a bright highlighted spot.

Thoughts?

Ok. I'm keeping my screw, but I'm going to get the hex nut.

Paul- did the nut and bolt look silver, or gold?
