Captain Raymus Antilles Costume

Alright, I'm starting (at least hoping to start) a Raymus Antilles costume, he is better know as the rebel guy who Vader chokes and chucks against a wall in the beginning of Episode IV. Anyway, I wanted to start with the helmet. I want to go about this starting with a papercraft/pepakura, fiberglass, bondo, paint, a process I'm sure many of you are familiar with. The only Pep file I could find was an Imp Death Star Trooper helmet, which is pretty much the same thing, but I can't get the correct dimensions on it. :wacko This is where I need help. Can anyone give me the dimensions of the helmet? :confused I'll try to keep this updated often. Questions, Comments, and Concerns are more than welcome.

Ok, So I've already made a little progress. I've tracked down a pair of pants that will work nicely, they are just normal Khaki dress pants onto which I will sew a black stripes. I also have a custom made badge coming from my buddy in the next few weeks. I still need help with the helmet. I am trying to use the Death Star Trooper model here.

Hey Blade

I've reworked that pep file by removing the swoop and filling in the missing parts of the back. I built it and found it is slightly too long front-to-back. It needed to be stretched sideways. Anyway, I've got it to the stage where I have the height-depth-width all sorted out and have built one to the original sizes.

It is a very large helmet, but when you start searching, they are meant to be. I'm going to fibreglass this pep and may even do another about 20mm narrower as well.

I'm not sure, but I think it was originally modelled by Dung0beetle? So all credit to him for the model.

If you'd like the file, send me a PM with your email address and I'll fire it right back.

Cheers, Phil

Vor Entye Phil. You just took care of the hardest part of the project for me! Now to find some time to print and build! Thanks again

Alright, I've finally found the time to print the paper model Blaxmyth so kindly made for me, now I have to find the time to build it. hopefully this weekend I'll have some pictures up.

So how's that build coming on? Looking forward to seeing those pictures of the build.

I've just started my first ever resin and fibreglass build, using this helmet as a trial. Got two coats of glass cloth in and it feels very solid. One more will finish it off then it'll be sanding and body filler on the outside.

What a lot of fun I'm having! My only regret is spending so much time reading thousands of tutorials on fibreglassing and not enough actually doing it! I'll put some pictures up in a day or so.

Cheers, Phil

Well, I haven't had time to start, school is getting to me, especially with only a few weeks till finals, but I want to start ASAP. I got the badge from my friend a day or two ago. I'll post pictures eventually. I'm excited to see how yours came out. What did you do for the swoop in the back? I havent had time to look at it and make my own :unsure . If you have any tips for the resin/bondo, feel free to post them, this is my first one too. Well, thanks for the help and taking an interest, I promise It'll pick up once summer hits/I find time.

Update (5/18): The helmet and swoop paper crafts are done and I've already bought the resin, cloth and bondo. Now I need to clear some space down in the workshop and find a ton of time. Sadly, I think that means it won't be started until after finals. Ugh.

Well, after staring at the models for a week or so, something didn't seem right. The swoop was not shaped correctly in the front. I haven't had time to apply the changes but I have them worked out on paper. I also need to build the comm box. But, I have finals coming up so this project is postponed for a few weeks. :unsure

I've been using MonCal's work as a reference for my own.

Well, I've finally started up again. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel, but its very faint. :unsure I have spent the last few days fighting with the swoop, trying to get the shape right, any help with that would be appreciated. I've also started on the comm box, but the swoop is my priority right now, I haven't even thought about the chin cup/strap, but I don't think that will be that difficult. Any help/suggestions offered for this build would be greatly appreciated, I could use some progress right about now.....

Sorry I didn't catch this thread earlier on, check out:

I've built two of the RFT kits, and they go together fairly easy. Just do a lot of measuring and checking before you cut the "comm box" - you are trying to fit four curved surfaces at the same time!

Thanks for the link. I've looked at those kits before and they're tempting, but I already bought the resin and that (which were quite a bit cheaper). If the pepakura/fiberglass/bondo road fails then that will for sure be my next turn.

Hi Blade

I've done a new version of the swoop with a lip around the edge and a piece across to hold the shape. I'll send you a copy.

But also, I've purchased Rundown's Imperial Gunner pep which far exceeds mine in quality. I recommend it highly - great value for money. It's on the propzone site.

Awesome, Thanks Phil, Hopefully I'll finish this thing soon. I saw your collection of resin'd helmets (which is quite impressive). If it isn't too much trouble, I'd love to see your helmet/swoop combo together and separate for reference. Also if you have any suggestions for the resin process, they'd be appreciated. Thanks again.

Got it!

I just finished editing this helmet if anyone wants it. I'll send it to anyone if they promise to build it and share pictures of the build.

Alright! The swoop and main helmet are complete. I will finish the comm box tonight then start resin in the next few days. If anyone could link me to a good tutorial, that would be much appreciated!

I could use that file, I want the visor pieces, the comm box, and the chin cup. I may end up doing the entire thing, but we'll see. I will share pictures of what ever I do use (email: legoguy@wowway.com) That pepfile looks amazing, nice work.

Thanks. I'll send the file, but it still has to be unfolded. Did you want to unfold it yourself? It might be a while until I get to unfolding it.

I've never done it before, but I'm sure I'll figure it out, go ahead and send it. I'll google it if I need too :lol Thanks
