Hey gang,

So this Halloween I decided to build a Captain America S.T.R.I.K.E suit but it's going to be on a B.U.D.G.E.T!

Im starting with a navy flightsuit like this

I am going to paint on the star and stripes. I've done a test with two different options the first is a fabric marker that basically did nothing. Below that I use a paint pen which seemed to work ok but I'll need to go over it a few times. I've thought about puff paint but the lines probably wouldn't be very straight.

I bought a bunch of belts to make the harness but haven't gotten very far. I'm going to dye the gloves coffee and see if I can get them to match the belt a little better. More to come, stay tuned!

Some work done for the harness. I think I'm going to attach a magnet to the shield and my forearm to keep it in place. Again this isn't accurate but I did try to make it look tacti-cool.

So, here's a kind of crazy theory on the stripes. Mask off the stripes with tape, Plastidip them onto the fabric and then paint them with Silver NuLife shoe spray. It would probably give them that rubbery look, they would be bright and shiny silver and the NULife is made to be flexible so it won't crack or peel. Since you have a zipper up the center front, you could make the star out of foam and magnet it on so it's unbroken.

Also, I love the harness buckle. And 'tacti-cool' - I'm totally stealing that! :)

Cheers!

That is a brilliant idea! Maybe I'll to a test run on an old shirt and see what it does. Thanks for the tip!

Dang! Been meaning to attempt this but never had enough money to buy one! This is going to really help! Thanks man!

Great idea about masking the stripes but how to keep the paint from running under the tape into the fabric thru capillary action?

Thats where the PD comes in. It's thick enough that it shouldn't bleed when being applied. Then, if you leave the masking on, the PD will have (theoretically) formed enough of a thickness that it will keep the paint from bleeding. If small bleeds do occur, it should be fairly simple to use some acrylic craft paint mixed with textile medium to touch up the edges.
