Glad that the pouches have the approval of the C.A. community.
I don't want to be demoted to the A.C. group.

Didn't factor in tool costs, I assumed, will eventually need the leather working tools for the holster straps, helmet liner, and the double buckle cuff for the boots.

At least need, an awl. Correct??? One was recommend when I was doing the jacket.
Already have collected a metal ruler, xacto knife, and a punch set.

Edit: I doubt that I need any trial and error pieces, you, Kevin and Sandman already ran point and the path is clear. Just need to reverse engineer everything based on the photos. The real danger is if I start working leather as opposed to modifying, the wife will expect me to make her a purse.

You got that right.


In my earlier posts about making the heater shield, "Krylon outdoor rattle can" was not a very useful description.

The paints used were all Krylon to avoid the orange peel problem from mixing formulas.

Started with a coat of White primer. Then painted the entire front Krylon Indoor Outdoor Gloss White.
Masked and painted the stripes, Krylon Indoor Outdoor Red.
Cover the red and white stripes with paper, masked the stars and sprayed the blue field, Krylon Indoor Outdoor True Blue.

Completely mask the front of the shield to protect from over spray.

When the back was incorrectly silver, it was Krylon Chrome Aluminum.

To correct the color, I roughed up the silver with a green scrubbing pad.
The used Krylon Gold. First an even coating, then a heavy splotching to emulate the uneven coloring shown in the catalog.
To finish the back off, spot buffed with Nu Finish car polish.

The front was sealed with Future floor polish after all the colors were very dry and completely vented, then again after the weathering was applied.

I did not use Future on the back of the shield.

Not much was accomplished on the TFA front this weekend.

I sanded the helmet with 220 after a fourth coating of very water thinned Durham's Putty. Funny that I am working for a perfect finish just to then bash it up and weather it.

The pistol belt has been in the sun to "bake" out the still slight moldy smell.

Used Minakolabelle's excellent pattern.... Thanks again!

to make the chest pouches. These are made from scraps from the Ultimates mask, a foam block for shape, and brass tacks.

Like the card says "Join the Team". Can never have too many Captain Americas.

Not much progress but I was able to get outside and put a coat of resin over the putty before the thunder storms rolled in.



Once cured, it will be back to sanding.

I think I will paint the entire helmet silver and then the blue and white so any inevitable scratches will just look like additional weathering.

Thanks for stopping by. Glad that everything passed muster.

Today was a good day of work. I was able to get the straps done for the shield. Now I just need to do the front of the shield.



I sprayed the base coat of texture on the helmet. It is Rustoleum exterior textured paint for patio furniture. I hope to have the tough finish and look of a steel pot without having to mix ground cork.



Until I get more color spayed, it will look like a Desert Storm version for the Cap.

Hope to get away with doing the star directly on the shield.

Edit: Loaded this as a bitmap but it is now a jpg????? So the sizing my be off if any one wants to use it.

Anyone care to try engraving in IMC????
My safety glasses kept fogging up while starting the star.



This is how far I was able to get today before it got too hot.... but not Texas hot. 105?!!
Could use the shield for a wok.

Thunderstorms ruin the day for painting.



Still need to engrave the inner lines on the star and some touch up and polish on the paint.

Plus, short two chicago screws for the back but making slow progress.

Proxxon IB/E No 38 481 with a 3/32" round hardened steel collet on speed 6.

The how:
Printed the star posted above in paint with .75 margins for a perfect 10" star.
Center the paper star on the shield.
Mask the exterior edge, remove the star and mask the interior.
Layer the tape to build up a guide.
Use an exacto knife to trim for perfect points.
Cut the groves with the Proxxon.
Remove the masking. Marvel that it worked.
Mask the inside lines from the interior points to the center hole.
Cut the next set of groves and clean up the built up steel around the hole.
Remove the mask.

Now wonder do I push my luck...all in and do what I should or hold what I've got, a close but not quite.
