Can't find Tony Stark's sunglasses from Iron Man 3

Small request...

I found a backup pair of Vaypers for $10 and am thinking to try painting them since the Neptune ones are so unavailable.

Can someone with the right pair tell me if they seem baby blue or are they a bit greener, like a shade towards teal? Product pics online seem pretty baby blue but you know how that goes...

Schlegel,
Check out my posts p.203 and especially p.253!!

I did exactly that, spray painted my onyx pair...

With this...
20220627_223928.jpg

p.253 shows how they come apart for painting...
20220627_224149.jpg 20220627_224130.jpg

When I eventually sourced a brand new boxed pair of Vapyer in neptune, I did these comparison shots to show my custom painted onyx next to the originals...
20220627_224159.jpg 20220627_223835.jpg

I didn't realise before the neptunes arrived, how close my DIY versions actually were...perfect as placeholders, BTW I use my DIY specials on quite a daily basis on the PC (spray paint finish still intact) and keep my neptunes safe and boxed. ;)

As always, sanding and prep is key here...the finished article is directly proportional to the amount of time and effort put in.

**Top tip**

Seriously, use super mega light coats of spray, it has to dry and really harden properly underneath between coats, otherwise, when you come to force the lenses back in later, any soft paint underneath what seems totally dry on the surface, will literally just "concertina" off ;).

Hope this helps man!! :D

The picture quality is really rather hopeless, I searched around and I think this is the best there is, given the images are taken by phones of attending guests of just a "cinema" screen, but I'm going to have speculatory early guess that they might be...

(Is that a bit of PS Cortland DNA in there??) Hmmmm!!!

Due to the images (especially the askew angles) I really am out on an "ID'ing wing" here, so please bear with!!...

On the Miklos frame, the words "port" and "starboard" are printed in white on the top...

(Left is port and right is starboard, for all you non-sea dogs out there!! Aaarrgghh!!)
- Sorry I meant non-sea cats...

It is this frame detail specifically that makes me think it may be the Caddis Miklos, apart from the slightly tapered arms and nose bridge bulge seeming to match up also.

Looking at this captured pic below, there's a slight chance that those white dots aren't studio lighting reflections, but the port & starboard lettering...
20220627_132533.jpg

...Notably, there's more dots above the right eye and only 4 of the white dots above the left eye. The positioning of the "dots" or "letters" seems to match up too...
20220627_223057.jpg

I think this maybe could rule out both the gloss black & matt black colorways, as the "P&S" letters are in black not white, but I suppose it would depend on how the light catches the carved in lettering...
20220627_222851.jpg

The pic below originally had me looking through Tom Ford and Prada frames, with that just visible silver line on the temple...
20220627_132521.jpg
...But that faint silver line on the temple arm might be the metal on the inside of the frame coming through and reflecting through the gloss finish...
20220627_223154.jpg

This "as worn" product pic from the Caddis website shows that from a slight distance, it can resemble and look similar to white dots along the top...

Please don't dive in and buy any just yet though, hang fire, as this is still just a working theory very much in progress and requires some much better images!!

That's awesome, the angle of your great pic kinda says it all. (y)

I think I'll be putting the #C Sun dark grey lenses into the #C limited edition readers!!

**Top tip**
As I mentioned in earlier posts, if swapping the lenses over, do not get the lenses mixed up, do 1 lens at a time ;), as the left & right lenses are nearly identical (like most of the "keyhole bridge" round lens style frames like the OP Sheldrakes & PS Lennies) - You really don't want to end up trying to force the wrong lens into the frame.
Any advice on lens swap like this? Technique? Hot water to soften the frames or?

Unfortunately it looks like that paint is not available in the US.

Given his current mood 'm sure the Caddis are a sure bet. The writing on the top seems a good indicator as well. Probably not green based on the comparison photos. Maybe Matte Gopher?

If anyone wants to pay $25 you can watch the stream of the event (one would assume in much better quality than the photos of the projected image). 50th Anniversary Fundraiser | Siskel Film Center

I do not recommend hot water, hot air is safer. Hot water tends to make white discoloration in acetate easily.

Edit.... if you sealed all the water out with a zip lock bag or some such you could use a water bath for precise temperature control I suppose, but you definitely don't want direct contact between acetate and overly hot water. (DAMHIKT)

Clear lenses? Possibly prescription?

What do you guys think?

I'm considering sending my flights in to my optometrist after seeing these

Think they look the same very slight blue as Tanya's lens, heck, maybe they are them. And yes they are fine as prescription glasses, I plan to do this with mine.

Thanks man!! (y)
I suppose I'll now have to take back all of the choice words I said about the couriers!!
Lol.

They are very cool frames, stock lenses an added bonus. I am, at this very moment trying VERY hard not to crack and actually order some LOL

Re: the iron man t shirt. Does anybody know where that can be located?

Thanks again dude!!(y)

I can't be of much help with the t-shirt unfortunately, just a picture of it with no leads. :(

Worn here too, with the Giorgio Armani AR7019...
20220628_191911.jpg 20220628_192232.jpg

I suppose it's not too difficult to clean up the image or use it as a template to redo it entirely in Photoshop and make an accurate DIY version, or with one of the many online t-shirt shops, upload the finished clean image to them and they'll print it onto a t-shirt.

It was on my to do list actually. If I get around to it, I'll PM you.

I've made a few DIY RDJ t-shirts with iron on vinyl (vinyl cut out with a craft knife before applying) that turned out really good - They actually wash better than any "printed image" t-shirt I've had and are still going strong!! Lol.
BTW, speaking of clothing, I just bagged new, this Paul Smith artist stripe zip cardigan...

Also, last week, found the genuine original Givenchy sweater seen here, which I've been hunting down for absolutely ages...

If you want I can post actual pics of my RDJ wardrobe stuff (+IM movie wardrobe), but maybe we can start another sub-thread to showcase and discuss, so this sunglasses thread doesn't go too off track?? ;)

That's awesome, thanks.

Also, that's a great idea. If I could get a decent image it wouldn't be difficult to get that reproduced.

You've picked up some really neat stuff there. I really like that Paul Smith cardigan

Just ordered the Paul Smith "artist stripe" cardigan.
I managed to get it half price from Paul Smith so whilst not cheap, a decent bargain. I decided against the Carrera 86.

Living in the UK I don't really need anymore actual sunglasses, ie proper lenses for bright sunshine hence the purchase of the cardigan (which is exceptionally cool) :) as a "compromise" - at least that'swhat I'm telling myself LOL

sub thread is a great idea! I found who made the IM helmet shirt, BTW. OOP though.
