But that defeats the entire purpose of finding the real found part.
It's not just about the look, but rather the history that having the same found part adds to the replica.

Have you looked into British combat/military helmets?

I understand they took a lot of items from the military.

I did a quick search and the helmet suspension for the so called M1-helmet (WWII) looks very similar to me

Maybe, in the late 70ies/early 80ies there have been versins with plastic

I was just about to comment on military hats.

I own a WWII bakelite/iron helmet and the liner looks a lot like the one on that picture. Mine looks a bit more modern than the one here but it is in worse shape. It does have leather but no plastic was used.
