ASAP failed because it had way too many sub-categories and it resulted in crazy slow traffic.
I like all the Star Wars stuff together. I see all the stuff I like and I also see neat stuff I might have missed if I only went to a sub-forum.
Not to mention the more sub-forums you have, the more stupid people post the wrong stuff in the wrong forum.
When you have a Star Wars forum, and a Lightsaber forum, what you really get in the end is a Star Wars forum still half-filled with Lightsaber posts, and a Lightsaber forum half-filled with Star Wars posts, and in the end all you really have now is 2 Star Wars forums.

Also, if all the Lightsaber guys used TAGS (you know, that super easy feature we have on the RPF) to Tag their Lightsaber threads as 'Lightsaber', you can actually search by Tag and not just by keyword in the title or post.
Thing is, using search, you shouldn't NEED tags. If i'm searching for Vader Lightsaber ESB Wire Colors and locations, there should be a search that gets me down to a few posts. I just tried it and got nothing....You can't be too specific which tends to results in loads or hits.
ASAP didn't die because there too many subs and too many subs doesn't slow it down unless it was written just horribly. ASAP's problem wasn't that star wars was broken down into loads of subs, but that EVERYTHING was - including topics that didn't have any business having subs. It seemed like it was everything else has subs, so every new thing got subs.
I think when you have a giant forum - just speaking of the SW one, when it's STILL giant after being separated and having costumes culled from that, you have to look at more structure. I don't need to see 5 pages of new posts a day to feel things are going on in the SW section. There's still the option to show all topics with new posts if you wanna go that way as well.

But perhaps Simply lightsabers and Blasters is a start? If it doesn't go over well, they can be funneled back into a main. But there's no denying that the SW forum itself is gargantuan. People say it's because SW is popular now. Well, uh, with movies in 2016-2020 at the moment, that's not likely changing in the next few years either.....if someone needs added to be the filter, that's the price maybe.
I can send you a few thousand SW prop photos all in one big folder...you going to leave them that way since they're all just SW? Not if you plan on actually finding and using anything - just saying.
Outside of at least some more organization, i'd like to see some 'defined' threads as well that are in a set locale or something.
