Calgary based iron man build

Look for STEALTH's tutorial thread on building the duct tape dummy.

My helmet is almost completely pepped now. Pics as soon as its done. I think I'll either try my hand at the gloves (pun intended) next or move on to the chest and back. Not 100% sure yet. The gloves I have scare the crap out of me but they're small so we'll see how things go.

What version of IM are you doing?

Keep up to date on my Iron Man Mark VI build!

I got like 9 more pieces to glue on my chest(the triangle reactor..my son does not like the circle) then I will tackle the back.

theres also a shot in here on a storm trooper hemet I pepped and resined - my first.

That would be awesome! Except... that costume was from around 2000 and has long since been destroyed! Good to hear that there are more of us Edmonton area guys around here (I'm actually from Beaumont)

That sucks about the Doc Ock suit :(. Would still be cool to get us local RPF'rs together for some Timmy's. I'll stop sidetracking this thread now, sending a PM Rage.

Can't wait to see more from this project. You should definitely check out some of the foam suits out here, they are quite detailed, even if you choose pep and fiberglass. You could do a hybrid of both like foam for the cod and waist for comfort.

Nice to hear some fellow cow-towners are into this stuff. i too am a noob and have started a Rinzler helm to go with my UD Replica suit that is arriving in the spring, although probably not in time for the Con! i will probably wear my Sam Flynn suit to that. it's a shame there was nothing else to pep cuz the helm's are my favourite part of any costume. i plan on doing a Daft Punk Bangalter helm for my DJ brother and a Boba Fett helm for another brother after my Rinzler.

Could there be a worse one to start with, all glossy black with very few good reference pics. but it is all pep'd out (about 10 hours) and ready to resin it tomorrow (Jan 20). i'm gonna start a thread for it soonish

Speaking of the Comic Expo..excited to meet Adam Baldwin and..just announced..Wil Wheaton! I'll have to wear my Wesley Crushers bowling T-Shirt!

Well, after drifting away from this project for quite a while, I've decided to revisit it once again. New completion goal to be Halloween 2012. Started fresh and fired the forearm off in the past 24 hours. Need to up the size a little bit as my monster hands do not fit in it and it's a tad short for my arms. But at least I'm back into it!

Hmm. Can't upload a picture using tapatalk... I'll get some up in the next couple of days.

My plan for the abs and neck seal is to cast the final product and use some sort of flexible colored rubber to use with the costume.

Thanks for the update. After years of enjoying DIY costumes at SDCC and CCEE I have decided to give it a try as well. Lots of inspiration on this forum! It is also nice to see so many fellow Edmontonians [Albertans]. Anyone dressing up for Free Comic Book Day on Saturday? I might break out my Captain America costume and wear it to Happy Harbor, although I am still in the process of finishing my shield build.

I'm Calgary, just discovered pep files.
Starting a build at least I have some background in what is required.
Not sure I have the millions of hours of time required to do it with any level
of speed anyway.

First shin has been pepped completely.

Need to get ahold of some fiberglass and resin to run over it with. will be moving onto another piece, probably the codpiece next. don't want to get burnt out doing the same piece over and over lol

Glad you posted that your calgary based! I've been watching this site and got some good pointers on foam building. I'm working on the mark vi right now. Hopefully in time for halloween. If it turns out good enough I might even wear it to comicon next year.

I'm assuming your going fiberglass route? Which version of the suit?

yes to fiberglass. aiming for a halloween 2012 completion and wear to comicon and opening night of iron man 3 as well. working on the mark vii

Ok so I don't have to worry about two mark vi at comicon haha! I'll be keeping an eye on your build. I was aiming on going fiberglass but gonna try foam first.

i've seen a fair bit of foam and pep builds on here. i decided on pep because you can get more detail in it. good to see another calgary builder though. keep in touch. maybe we can help each other out.

sigh. and here i thought it was going to work i didn't scale it properly. upped the shin size to 483 mm (damn me and my 6'3" frame) and am going to start working on that now.

Ive been running into that too.. i originally did the chest and back but then the back looked really out of scale... back to square 1.

scaled down the arms since im only 5'6-7 and they are ok... the cod was too small at the scale of the arms...square 1.. left the scale for the cod at original which is fine now, and continued with the abs at same scale as the cod which is also fine..

My thighs are scaled down and "so far" i think they are ok.. i'll know more when i do the shins and link them together..
